Design study of general aviation collision avoidance system
The selection and design of a time/frequency collision avoidance system for use in general aviation aircraft is discussed. The modifications to airline transport collision avoidance equipment which were made to produce the simpler general aviation system are described. The threat determination capabilities and operating principles of the general aviation system are illustrated
Toroidal Vortices in Resistive Magnetohydrodynamic Equilibria
Resistive steady states in toroidal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), where Ohm's
law must be taken into account, differ considerably from ideal ones. Only for
special (and probably unphysical) resistivity profiles can the Lorentz force,
in the static force-balance equation, be expressed as the gradient of a scalar
and thus cancel the gradient of a scalar pressure. In general, the Lorentz
force has a curl directed so as to generate toroidal vorticity. Here, we
calculate, for a collisional, highly viscous magnetofluid, the flows that are
required for an axisymmetric toroidal steady state, assuming uniform scalar
resistivity and viscosity. The flows originate from paired toroidal vortices
(in what might be called a ``double smoke ring'' configuration), and are
thought likely to be ubiquitous in the interior of toroidally driven
magnetofluids of this type. The existence of such vortices is conjectured to
characterize magnetofluids beyond the high-viscosity limit in which they are

Thick film silicon growth techniques
One inch wide silicon ribbons up to 14 inches long have been produced from graphite dies. Several different techniques have been employed to improve the semiconductor purity of silicon. This has resulted in a general increase in quality although the techniques involved have not been optimized. The power factor of uncoated ribbon solar cells produced for material evaluation has increased to approximately 75% of those evaluation cells made from commercial silicon. The present limitation is believed due to low lifetime. Additional work has continued with new die materials; however, only composite dies of SiO2 and C show significant potential at this time
Semiclassical almost isometry
Let M be a complex projective manifold, and L an Hermitian ample line bundle
on it. A fundamental theorem of Gang Tian, reproved and strengthened by
Zelditch, implies that the Khaeler form of L can be recovered from the
asymptotics of the projective embeddings associated to large tensor powers of
L. More precisely, with the natural choice of metrics the projective embeddings
associated to the full linear series |kL| are asymptotically symplectic, in the
appropriate rescaled sense. In this article, we ask whether and how this result
extends to the semiclassical setting. Specifically, we relate the Weinstein
symplectic structure on a given isodrastic leaf of half-weighted
Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangian submanifolds of M to the asymptotics of the the
pull-back of the Fubini-Study form under the semiclassical projective maps
constructed by Borthwick, Paul and Uribe.Comment: exposition improve
