Multi-State Logging Freeze Detection Passive RFID Tags

    Get PDF
In this work the design and measurement of a passive UHF RFID smart tag suitable for monitoring and recording critical temperature violations in cold chain management are presented. The tag uses moving parts to detect and log different temperate states without the requirement for transceivers, memory and batteries. A simple mechanical method is proposed whereby a moving metallic plate is trapped in one of 4 possible positions by specific environmental temperatures whereby inducing a permanent state based change in the passive RFID tag response. The latched product critical temperature violations can be monitored via the read power required to turn on the tag transponder chip which differs in each state

This paper presents an antenna structure design using a standard belt for wearable applications. The antenna arouse from a body of research work on wearable metallic structures functioning as antennas for wireless on-body networks

    Tamper Proof RFID Security Tag

In this publication we present a tamper proof long range platform tolerant uhf smart RFID tag to identify valuable or security sensitive products. The smart tag functions as platform tolerant tag but once detached from the host object, it will permanently stop to function buy rendering the RFID chip unusable. The tag substrate design for additive manufacturing, platform tolerant antenna design as well as electromagnetic performance and read range are provided

Anomalous bulk behaviour in the free parafermion Z(N)Z(N) spin chain

We demonstrate using direct numerical diagonalization and extrapolation methods that boundary conditions have a profound effect on the bulk properties of a simple Z(N)Z(N) model for N≥3N \ge 3 for which the model hamiltonian is non-hermitian. For N=2N=2 the model reduces to the well known quantum Ising model in a transverse field. For open boundary conditions the Z(N)Z(N) model is known to be solved exactly in terms of free parafermions. Once the ends of the open chain are connected by considering the model on a ring, the bulk properties, including the ground-state energy per site, are seen to differ dramatically with increasing NN. Other properties, such as the leading finite-size corrections to the ground-state energy, the mass gap exponent and the specific heat exponent, are also seen to be dependent on the boundary conditions. We speculate that this anomalous bulk behaviour is a topological effect.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures, minor change

    Passive UHF RFID Tilt Sensor

    Get PDF
In this paper we introduce a bio-axis passive wireless UHF RFID tilt sensor for applications such as to increase safety in warehouse environment and damage detection in consumer goods and where long term monitoring of the product is essential without the need to supply power to the sensors. Simulation and prototype testing indicate it is possible to detect and isolate tilting in 3 axes

Phase Transitions and Pairing Signature in Strongly Attractive Fermi Atomic Gases

We investigate pairing and quantum phase transitions in the one-dimensional two-component Fermi atomic gas in an external field. The phase diagram, critical fields, magnetization and local pairing correlation are obtained analytically via the exact thermodynamic Bethe ansatz solution. At zero temperature, bound pairs of fermions with opposite spin states form a singlet ground state when the external field H<Hc1H < H_{c1}. A completely ferromagnetic phase without pairing occurs when the external field H>Hc2H > H_{c2}. In the region Hc1<H<Hc2H_{c1} < H < H_{c2} we observe a mixed phase of matter in which paired and unpaired atoms coexist. The phase diagram is reminiscent of that of type II superconductors. For temperatures below the degenerate temperature and in the absence of an external field, the bound pairs of fermions form hard-core bosons obeying generalized exclusion statistics.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, expanded version with additional text, references and figure
