Solutions to the 1d Klein-Gordon equation with cutoff Coulomb potentials
In a recent paper by Barton (J. Phys. A40, 1011 (2007)), the 1-dimensional
Klein-Gordon equation was solved analytically for the non-singular Coulomb-like
potential V_1(|x|) = -\alpha/(|x|+a). In the present paper, these results are
completely confirmed by a numerical formulation that also allows a solution for
an alternative cutoff Coulomb potential V_2(|x|) = -\alpha/|x|, ~|x| > a, and
otherwise V_2(|x|) = -\alpha/a.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
California's Top-Two Primary: The Effects on Electoral Politics and Governance
In this report, we conduct an in-depth analysis of California's top-two nonpartisan primary election system to better understand if and how eliminating partisan primaries reshapes politics and governance. We evaluate the effects of the top-two system in California based on the criteria established by supporters and opponents of such primary reforms, as well as by political scientists. Specifically, we assess the impact of Top Two on polarization, turnout and meaningful electoral participation, election competitiveness, Californians' assessment of state governance, and party strength. We exhaustively review existing peer-reviewed research and conduct original analysis to understand whether the claims and hopes of reform advocates came true
Hydraulic scale for measurement of dynamometer and other forces
The object of this investigation is to design, build, test, and develop, a hydraulic type scale primarily to be used for measuring dynamometer forces. The scale however is not limited to use on dynamometers, but may be used for other types of force measurements such as the continuous weighing of material on a conveyor belt in conjunction with a recording pressure gage. The scale has numerous applications in determining forces where conventional scales are now used. This particular subject was chosen because of the need for a convenient, inexpensive, and accurate scale for use in measuring the force exerted by an electric dynamometer in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy --Introduction, page 1-2
