The impact of urban policy in the management of the tourist‑historic city: a comparative study

En la gestión de la ciudad histórico -turística inciden diversas políticas que pueden agruparse en culturales, turísticas, de desarrollo económico y urbanísticas. La presente investigación se centra en los retos y soluciones que se aportan desde estas últimas para lograr una mayor integración del turismo en la ciudad histórica. Para ello se han estudiado los casos de Plymouth, Málaga y Guanajuato. El estudio de casos de contextos diferentes favorece la extracción de alternativas diversas ante problemas similares y la valoración de la aplicación de herramientas comunes en realidades que difieren unas de otras. Dichas experiencias comparadas pueden servir de referencia para otras ciudades que también están inmersas en la renovación de sus centros históricos para hacerlos más atractivos de cara a los visitantes.Several policies influence in the management of the tourist -historic tourist city, which can be grouped into cultural, tourist, economic and urban development. This research focuses on the challenges and solutions brought by the latter in order to manage the tourist use of the most visited areas of the historic city. To do so, three cases have been studied: Plymouth, Malaga and Guanajuato. Having case studies from different contexts permits the extraction of various alternatives to similar problems and to assess the implementation of common tools in distinct realities, which can serve as reference for other cities that are engaged in renewing their historic centres to make them more attractive to visitor
