    Vector-meson contributions do not explain the rate and spectrum in K_L -> pi0 gamma gamma

    We analyze the recent NA48 data for the reaction K_L -> pi0 gamma gamma with and without the assumption of vector meson dominance (VMD). We find that the data is well described by a three-parameter expression inspired by O(p^6) chiral perturbation theory. We also find that it is impossible to fit the shape of the decay distribution and the overall rate simultaneously if one imposes the VMD constraints on the three parameters. We comment on the different fits and their implications for the CP-conserving component of the decay K_L -> pi0 e+ e-.Comment: Version accepted for publication on Phys. Rev.     Radiative Corrections to Double Dalitz Decays: Effects on Invariant Mass Distributions and Angular Correlations

    We review the theory of meson decays to two lepton pairs, including the cases of identical as well as non-identical leptons, as well as CP-conserving and CP-violating couplings.     Agreement between the experimental value Γ(KSγγ)\Gamma (K_S\rightarrow \gamma\gamma) and the number predicted via a one-loop chiral perturbation theory calculation has been cited as a success for the latter. On the other hand the one-loop prediction for the closely related process KLπ0γγK_L\rightarrow \pi^0\gamma\gamma has been found to be a factor three below the experimental value. Using the inputs of unitarity and dispersion relations, we demonstrate the importance of higher order loop effects to both of these processes.Comment: 20 pages (4 figures available on request), UMHEP-39

    Corrections to KL0π0γγK_{L}^{0}\rightarrow \pi^{0} \gamma \gamma decay induced by scalar meson exchange are studied within chiral perturbation theory.     Improved branching ratios were measured for the KL3π0K_L \to 3 \pi^0 decay in a neutral beam at the CERN SPS with the NA31 detector: Γ(KL3π0)/Γ(KLπ+ππ0)=1.611±0.037\Gamma (K_L \to 3 \pi^0) / \Gamma (K_L \to \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^0) = 1.611 \pm 0.037 and Γ(KL3π0)/Γ(KLπeν)=0.545±0.010\Gamma (K_L \to 3 \pi^0) / \Gamma (K_L \to \pi e \nu ) = 0.545 \pm 0.010. From the first number an upper limit for ΔI=5/2\Delta I =5/2 and ΔI=7/2\Delta I = 7/2 transitions in neutral kaon decay is derived. Using older results for the Ke3/Kμ\mu 3 fraction, the 3π0\pi^0 branching ratio is found to be Γ(KL3π0)/Γtot=(0.211±0.003)\Gamma (K_L \to 3 \pi^0 )/ \Gamma_{tot} = (0.211 \pm 0.003), about a factor three more precise than from previous experiments

    We examine the phenomenological implications of light t~R\tilde{t}_R and higgsinos in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, assuming tan2β<mt/mb\tan^2 \beta < m_t / m_b and heavy t~L\tilde{t}_L and gauginos.     Supersymmetry, Axions and Cosmology

    Various authors have noted that in particular models, the upper bound on the axion decay constant may not hold. We point out that within supersymmetry, this is a generic issue. For large decay constants, the cosmological problems associated with the axion's scalar partner are far more severe than those of the axion. We survey a variety of models, both for the axion multiplet and for cosmology, and find that in many cases where the cosmological problems of the saxion are solved, the usual upper bound on the axion is significantly relaxed. We discuss, more generally, the cosmological issues raised by the pseudoscalar members of moduli multiplets, and find that they are potentially quite severe.Comment: 27 pages, published version, some discussions clarifie

    Energy-Charge Correlation in the π+ππ0\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 Decay of KLK_L and of Tagged Neutral Kaons

    We relate the asymmetries in the charged pions energy in the decay into π+ππ0\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 of KLK_L and of the tagged neutral kaons. The former asymmetry is a given combination of (ϵ)\Re(\epsilon), (ϵ)\Im(\epsilon), and ϵ|\epsilon'|.     Structure of Fat Jets at the Tevatron and Beyond

    Boosted resonances is a highly probable and enthusiastic scenario in any process probing the electroweak scale. Such objects when decaying into jets can easily blend with the cornucopia of jets from hard relative light QCD states. We review jet observables and algorithms that can contribute to the identification of highly boosted heavy jets and the possible searches that can make use of such substructure information.     Rare KK Decays

    The rare decays of the KK meson have had a long tradition as a laboratory for testing the symmetry properties of the weak interactions, and the manner in which these symmetries are broken by higher order effects. Present--day interest is focussed on decays that are suppressed by CPCP--symmetry or GIM symmetry. Such decays, in the standard theory, are sensitive to effects of the virtual top quark, and could also reveal new interactions transcending the standard model.
