Infectious complications of central venous catheters increase the risk of catheter-related thrombosis in hematology patients: A prospective study
Hormonal regulation and partial purification of thyroxine 5'-deiodinase in brown adipose tissue
Although the thermogenic function of Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT) in
hibernators has been recognized for many years, it has only been recently
accepted that BAT is also the most important thermogenic organ in nonhibernators
such as the rat. It has also become clear that thermogenesis
in BAT does not only occur in response to cold but also in response
to eating and that this does not occur in some obese animals. This chapter
will desc~ibe some general aspects of BAT (lA) and review in short the
physiological role of brown fat in thermogenesis (lB). The cellular changes
that are involved in this process will be discussed (1 C) and some of the
most important effects of various hormones in the brown adipocyte will
be outlined (lD)
