In this paper, I would like to provide some of the elements necessary for a comprehension of Michel Henry’s position within the context of the phenomenological debate on inter-subjectivity. This apparently straightforward task is, in reality, extremely difficul

    Get PDF
In the natural attitude, and in the ordinary language, religion is strictly bound to transcendence. In this paper I ask whether the concept of “transcendence” is legitimate in the phenomenological dimension, which is opened by the methodological operation of reduction to the immanence of transcendental consciousness. By examining how “transcendence” gains increasingly importance in Husserl’s thought, the necessity emerges to distinguish three levels of it: intentional (or horizontal) transcendence, intersubjective transcendence and transcendence as “superposition” (or trans-horizontal transcendence). Such distinction allows to rethink the sense, the possibilities and the limits of phenomenology of religion

Social proximity and misinformation: Experimental evidence from a mobile phone-based campaign in India

    Get PDF
We study how social proximity between the sender and the receiver of information shapes the effectiveness of preventive health behaviour campaigns and the persistence of misinformation. We implement a field experiment among a representative sample of slum residents in two major Indian cities characterized by Hindu-Muslim tensions. We show that informative messages are effective at improving evidence-based behavior, but not non-evidence-based behavior. These findings do not differ by social proximity, signalled by religion. However, when sender and receiver share the same religion, the intervention significantly reduces misinformation carrying in-group salience, highlighting the role of social proximity in fighting misinformation. Novel insights on pink discoloration in cheese: The case of Pecorino Toscano

    Get PDF
Pink discoloration in cheese has been the subject of wide research, but the basis for this phenomenon remains elusive. This defect impacts a wide range of ripened cheeses, resulting in the rejection of cheese and a consequent economic loss for dairy industries. As multiple causes for pink discoloration have been reported for different cheeses in the literature, the aim of this research was to investigate the cause of a pink discoloration found on Pecorino Toscano cheese rind. The results of microbiological analysis revealed the presence of high microbial counts associated to the rind and the nearest inner part. Strains isolated from the coloured part were mainly identified as Serratia liquefaciens, suggesting that an environmental contamination of the cheese rind by this species could be the cause of the observed defect and expanding the knowledge related to pink discoloration in cheeses

    Get PDF

This paper intends to offer a contribution to the phenomenological issue of passivity, which is examined in the light of a specific and paradigmatic case: the religious lived experience. Is it possible that the conscience has the Erlebnis of an intrinsic excessive content such as the «absolute»? Adolf Reinach and Kurt Stavenhagen find a solution in the notion of «position-taking» (Stellungnahme). Thanks to their analysis it emerges a more radical idea of passivity: ‘in’ the lived experience there can be paradoxically more than what the subject properly feelsEl propósito de este ensayo es aportar una contribución a la cuestión fenomenológica de la pasividad, considerada a la luz de un caso específico y paradigmático: el de la vivencia religiosa.
