    Centimeter-wave continuum radiation from the rho Ophiuchi molecular cloud

    The rho Oph molecular cloud is undergoing intermediate-mass star formation. UV radiation from its hottest young stars heats and dissociates exposed layers, but does not ionize hydrogen. Only faint radiation from the Rayleigh-Jeans tail of ~10-100K dust is expected at wavelengths longwards of 3mm. Yet Cosmic Background Imager (CBI) observations reveal that the rho Oph W photo-dissociation region (PDR) is surprisingly bright at centimetre wavelengths. We searched for interpretations consistent with the WMAP radio spectrum, new ISO-LWS parallel mode images and archival Spitzer data. Dust-related emission mechanisms at 1 cm, as proposed by Draine & Lazarian, are a possibility. But a magnetic enhancement of the grain opacity at 1cm is inconsistent with the morphology of the dust column maps Nd and the lack of detected polarization. Spinning dust, or electric-dipole radiation from spinning very small grains (VSGs), comfortably explains the radio spectrum, although not the conspicuous absence from the CBI data of the infrared circumstellar nebulae around the B-type stars S1 and SR~3. Allowing for VSG depletion can marginally reconcile spinning dust with the data. As an alternative interpretation we consider the continuum from residual charges in rho Oph W, where most of carbon should be photoionised by the close binary HD147889 (B2IV, B3IV). Electron densities of ~100 cm^{-3}, or H-nucleus densities n_H > 1E6 cm^{-3}, are required to interpret rho Oph W as the CII Stromgren sphere of HD147889. However the observed steep and positive low-frequency spectral index would then require optically thick emission from an hitherto unobserved ensemble of dense clumps or sheets with a filling factor ~1E-4 and n_H ~ 1E7 cm^{-3}.Comment: accepted for publication in MNRA

    Epidemiology of typhoid fever in the Philippines during the last six decades from 1960-2019: a profile and its trend

    Regardless of the numerous reviews and publications on typhoid fever in the Philippines, it continues to be an issue regarding public health. Using data obtained from the Philippine Health Statistics (PHS), this study examined trends in typhoid fever mortality across an interval of six decades in the Philippines. The mortality and morbidity rates of typhoid fever were analyzed to discover trends of change for each year, age group, sex, and area. The Microsoft Excel software tool became used for all data analysis. The results show a decrease in typhoid fever fatality rates in the Philippines over the previous year. In terms of sex-specific deaths, males outnumbered females. The individuals aged 70 and older have the highest death rates when it comes to age-specific mortality rates. In the Philippines, Region I also has the highest mortality rate from typhoid fever. For instance, the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has the lowest mortality rate from typhoid fever. The highest average morbidity rate is in the Cordillera administrative region (CAR), while the lowest is in Region IVB. To eliminate typhoid fever in the next few years and to completely combat typhoid fever throughout the years, educational campaign awareness or intimate knowledge must be conducted locally and globally

    In the Philippines, kidney disease is acknowledged as a significant public health issue as it causes considerable suffering, negatively impacts health, and possibly death to people inflicted it, this is despite the available programs and efforts to combat these diseases. This study evaluated and analyzed six decades of data (1960-2019) from Philippine Health Statistics to provide precise and valid information regarding its mortality trend and to assess the country’s improvement in effectively dealing with these diseases. Factors such as gender, geographical location, and lifestyle were found to affect kidney disease chances. We also found out that there are age and gender disparities in the vulnerability of the people of the Philippines to kidney diseases, with elderly ages 70 and up and males recorded to be at greater risk of dying due to it. Differences in the regional outcome were also observed with Region XII having the highest mortality rate, and Region ARMM having the lowest. Urgent need to expand treatment advancements and programs for the population is needed to decrease the burden of kidney disease in the country in the following years

Due to the scarcity of studies on HIV in the nation, the present state of the HIV epidemic must be ascertained by gathering data from public health surveillance and HIV mortality time trend analysis. The Department of Health's Philippine Health Statistics (PHS) provided the information. The PHS-recommended algorithms for vital health indicators were used to calculate mortality rates. According to the study's findings, the death rate in the nation is rising, necessitating tight efforts to stop the virus's transmission and provide access to anti-retroviral therapy. Although there is a considerable difference between the two sexes, men had a greater mortality rate than women, suggesting that men were more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS mortality. The study also revealed that HIV testing hurdles were to blame for making young to middle-aged individuals the population most susceptible to mortality from this illness. Additionally, the National Capital Region has the most significant mortality rate, so the government should focus on promoting health in this area as it has the highest mortality rate

    We study Schr\"odinger invariant deformations of the AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4 (or K3) solution of IIB supergravity and find a large class of solutions with integer and half-integer dynamical exponents. We analyze the supersymmetries preserved by our solutions and find an infinite number of solutions with four supersymmetries. We study the solutions holographically and find that the dual D1-D5 (or F1-NS5) CFT is deformed by irrelevant operators of spin one and two.Comment: 23 page

    Modeling Thermal Effects in Metals Irradiated by Copper Nanoclusters

    One of the promising areas in condensed matter physics is the study of the interaction of nanoclusters with various metallic targets. In this paper we investigate the thermal processes in metals irradiated with nanoclusters by the molecular dynamics method. In the framework of this method wave effects of the heat transfer are obtained, a feature which is absent in the thermal spike model. We repost results of computer simulation of the structural changes in irradiated copper targets of different sizes depending on the energy (in the range of 10–50 eV/atom) of copper nanoclusters
