L'umanesimo di Sicco Polenton. Padova, la Catinia, i santi, gli antichi

No full text
The volume hosts the reports presented at the international conference on Sicco Polenton, organized on 17-18 May 2019 by the Department of Historical, Geographical and Antiquity Sciences of the University of Padua and by the Municipality of Anguillara Veneta in the sixth centenary of the fabula Catinia: the work, composed in 1419 to recreate the noble Iacopino Badoer da Peraga and set in Anguillara, was immediately much discussed and over the centuries guaranteed the fame of its author, who played a key role in the rebirth of theater in the humanistic age. It offers an update of studies and wide-ranging critical reflection on the figure of the Paduan humanist: from biography to the social, cultural and institutional role in the Padua of the time, to literary production. The essays are organized into 3 sections: the first considers the biographical, socio-political and intellectual profile of Sicco and his family, with special attention to his writing and book production, to close with a look at his hagiographic works, which highlight the complex, rich and articulated link with the Paduan reality of the time; the second concerns the heart of his intense literary activity, those works that show his vital dialogue with the ancient literary tradition, with the scriptores illustres of Rome and in particular with Cicero (a hitherto unknown letter of great interest on the genesis of the Scriptorum illustrium Latinae linguae libri and indicative of the wide, even European, projection of Sicco's cultural influence is also published); the third is dedicated to reflection and research on Catinia and its late fifteenth-century vulgarization. Read as a whole and in their variety, the studies testify to the cultural centrality of Sicco Polenton in the Padua and Veneto of his generation and those immediately following, showing the many facets of interests, readings, commitments, relationships that prove his full adhesion to the core values of Humanism

Structural and kinetic DFT characterization of materials to rationalize catalytic performances

No full text
This review shortly discusses recent results obtained by the application of density functional theory for the calculations of the adsorption and diffusion properties of small molecules and their reactivity on heterogenous catalytic systems, in the ambit of the Nanocat project. Particular focus has been devoted to palladium catalysts, either in atomic or small cluster form. Some protocols have been tested to obtain efficient ways able to treat the electronic and geometric influence of supports like zeolites and carbon nanotubes on the catalytic properties of palladium. The hydroisomerization of cis-but-2-ene is discussed as model reaction on supported and unsupported Pd clusters. Some preliminary results on the structural investigation of systems formed by a palladium clusters and block copolymers are also presented
