    Hybrid Sine-Cosine Black Widow Spider Optimization based Route Selection Protocol for Multihop Communication in IoT Assisted WSN

    In the modern era, Internet of Things (IoT) has been a popular research topic and it focuses on interconnecting numerous sensor-based devices primarily for tracking applications and collecting data. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) becomes a significant element in IoT platforms since its inception and turns out to be the most ideal platform for deploying various smart city application zones namely disaster management, home automation, intelligent transportation, smart buildings, and other IoT-enabled applications. Clustering techniques were commonly used energy-efficient methods with the main purpose that is to balance the energy between Sensor Nodes (SN). Routing and clustering are Non-Polynomial (NP) hard issues where bio-inspired approaches were used for a known time to solve these issues. This study introduces a Hybrid Sine-Cosine Black Widow Spider Optimization based Route Selection Protocol (HSBWSO-RSP) for Mulithop Communication in IoT assisted WSN. The presented HSBWSO-RSP technique aims to properly determine the routes to destination for multihop communication. Moreover, the HSBWSO-RSP approach enables the integration of variance perturbation mechanism into the traditional BWSO algorithm. Furthermore, the selection of routes takes place by a fitness function comprising Residual Energy (RE) and distance (DIST). The experimental result analysis of the HSBWSO-RSP technique is tested using a series of experimentations and the results are studied under different measures. The proposed methodology achieves 100% packet delivery ratio, no packet loss and 2.33 secs end to end delay. The comparison study revealed the betterment of the HSBWSO-RSP technique over existing routing techniques

    Self-assembly of iron nanoclusters on the Fe3O4(111) superstructured surface

    We report on the self-organized growth of a regular array of Fe nanoclusters on a nanopatterned magnetite surface. Under oxidizing preparation conditions the (111) surface of magnetite exhibits a regular superstructure with three-fold symmetry and a 42 A periodicity. This superstructure represents an oxygen terminated (111) surface, which is reconstructed to form a periodically strained surface. This strain patterned surface has been used as a template for the growth of an ultrathin metal film. A Fe film of 0.5 A thickness was deposited on the substrate at room temperature. Fe nanoclusters are formed on top of the surface superstructure creating a regular array with the period of the superstructure. We also demonstrate that at least the initial stage of Fe growth occurs in two-dimensional mode. In the areas of the surface where the strain pattern is not formed, random nucleation of Fe was observed.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

    Study to assess the changing pattern of clinical profile and determine the prognosis in hepatic encephalopathy

    Background: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a common complication of liver disease that requires intensive care management. The prevalence of HE is increasing during recent period. The most important factors of HE are alcohol consumption, chronic hepatitis, hepatotoxic drugs and unhealthy changes in life style. There were only relatively few studies from our region on the changing profile of hepatic encephalopathy under the background of life style changes. This study was conducted with the aim to detect the changing pattern of clinical profile, precipitants and to assess the prognosis of patients with hepatic encephalopathy.Methods: This was a prospective study for a period of 18 months since January 2012 at Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram, Kannur, a tertiary care centre situated in the northern part of Kerala. Patients admitted in the medical and gastroenterology wards and intensive care units that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were enrolled in this study.Results: Among the 76 patients with HE, 60 were suffering from CLD and 16 due to acute liver failure. The common etiologies for HE in CLD patients were Alcoholic cirrhosis (63%), Cryptogenic cirrhosis (17%) and cirrhosis due to chronic HBV (10%) and HCV hepatitis (7%) respectively. Among the CLD patients at the start of observation majority were in Child Pugh class B and C. Based on West Haven grading most of them had Grade 2 and 3 HE. Majority with Grade 1, 2 and 3 improved where as those with Grade 4 and Grade 3 in Child Pugh class C worsened. The common precipitants of HE were GI bleed, dyselectrolemia, constipation and infections. Among these precipitants a statistically significant association for a worse outcome was present only with infection. Leptospirosis and deliberate self-harm due to ingestion of hepatotoxic rodenticide and paracetamol were the leading cause of hepatic encephalopathy in acute liver failureConclusions: In present study HE was most commonly seen in patients with alcoholic liver disease. Cryptogenic cirrhosis associated with other life style diseases was the second common condition. Among all precipitating factors infection appeared as a statistically significant factor predicting a worse outcome. Health education among alcoholic patients and life style modifications to prevent cryptogenic cirrhosis are of paramount importance in curtailing the increase in incidence of HE in this region

    Antigenotoxic Effect Of Ferulic Acid In 7,12-Dimethyl Benz(A)- Anthracene (Dmba) Induced Genotoxicity

    The antigenotoxic effect of ferulic acid was carried out by evaluating the cytogenetic markers, the micronuclei frequency and chromosomal aberrations, in the bone marrow of hamsters in 7,12- dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) induced genotoxicity. Genotoxicity was induced in experimental hamsters by single intraperitoneal injection of DMBA (30mg kg-1 b.w). Pretreatment of ferulic acid orally at a dose of 40mg kg-1 b.w for five days significantly reduced the frequency of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (MnPCEs) and the percentage of chromosomal aberrations in hamster\'s bone marrow. Our results thus suggest that ferulic acid has potent antigenotoxic effect in DMBA induced genotoxicity in golden Syrian hamsters.
