    A bibliometric mapping of malaysian publication using co-word analysis

    Bibliometric maps or science maps are figurative representation of scientific field or organization in which elements of the map are associated with topic or themes. In this study, the method that has been chosen to perform bibliometric mapping is co-words analysis. Main objective for this study is to identify the research progress that been achieved by previous researchers and future direction which has the potential to be discovered by younger researchers. Set of data been downloaded from Scopus database. In this study total of 2360 successfully downloaded which has been sorted the highest cited articles and all subject area is selected from year 1995 to 2015. By using Vosviewer, title and abstract from corpus is manipulated in order to produce cluster of co-words analysis. As for result, there are 5 cluster words being produce in the software. Three of clusters are related to medicine, pharmacy and clinical namely as cluster 1, cluster 4 and cluster 5. In cluster 2 is related to agricultural, environment and forestry whereas the last cluster, cluster 3 is more relate to children development, adult health and health in developing countries. Highest and low frequency word also reported in this study. Highest frequency can be considered as the most research area that become researcher's choice in this past 20 years. Whereas for low frequency words is the potential words that can be a guidance for young researchers to choose which research area or domain that they can gain the interest and do the next exploration

    Marine Pollution at Northeast of Penang Island

    Abstract: Oceans cover large area of earth surface and it is important for humans to protect from pollution. Malaysia has large marine areas which consist of islands, coastal and sea areas which are facing pollution problem due to the rapid urbanization and industrialization. This study investigated sources of marine pollution occurred at area near a reclamation project at the northeast of Penang Island. Three locations were chosen for water sampling which included Sg. Fetes, North Tanjung Tokong and Gurney Drive. Experiments were conducted to investigate the parameters namely Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), the presence of Coliform and E. coli, nitrate nitrogen, Total Phosphorus (TP) and turbidity. Visual observation during the site visit was also recorded. Laboratory results show that Gurney Drive is the most polluted location compared to other sampling points as it received flows from the existing island. The highest COD was 550 mg/L recorded at Gurney Drive followed by 290 mg/L at Sg. Fetes and 187 mg/L at North Tanjung Tokong. This study shows that the marine pollution was contributed from various sources with different impacts and resulted from the discharge from the existing mainland itself. Thus, pollution input should be controlled and mitigated for better water quality in the future

    Optically trapped bacteria pairs reveal discrete motile response to control aggregation upon cell–cell approach

    Aggregation of bacteria plays a key role in the formation of many biofilms. The critical first step is cell–cell approach, and yet the ability of bacteria to control the likelihood of aggregation during this primary phase is unknown. Here, we use optical tweezers to measure the force between isolated Bacillus subtilis cells during approach. As we move the bacteria towards each other, cell motility (bacterial swimming) initiates the generation of repulsive forces at bacterial separations of ~3 μm. Moreover, the motile response displays spatial sensitivity with greater cell–cell repulsion evident as inter-bacterial distances decrease. To examine the environmental influence on the inter-bacterial forces, we perform the experiment with bacteria suspended in Tryptic Soy Broth, NaCl solution and deionised water. Our experiments demonstrate that repulsive forces are strongest in systems that inhibit biofilm formation (Tryptic Soy Broth), while attractive forces are weak and rare, even in systems where biofilms develop (NaCl solution). These results reveal that bacteria are able to control the likelihood of aggregation during the approach phase through a discretely modulated motile response. Clearly, the force-generating motility we observe during approach promotes biofilm prevention, rather than biofilm formation

    Surface resistivity and ultrasonic pulse velocity evaluation of reinforced opc concrete and reinforced geopolymer concrete in marine environment

    The concrete structures that are built along the seaside often suffer from reduced service life due to inadequate durability against deterioration. This research reports the findings of concrete resistivity and quality using two Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) measures applied to Reinforced Geopolymer and Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete in the marine environment. In addition, the relationship between Reinforced Geopolymer and Reinforced OPC concrete was statistically discussed in-terms of strength and direction. The testing was carried out using a Proceeq Resipod Wenner 4-probe to measure Surface Resistivity (SR) and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), respectively. The testings were carried out on beam shaped samples of OPC and Geopolymer concrete that were immersed in seawater over a period of 90 days with similar curing condition. It was found from the present investigation that the maximum SR and maximum UPV values acquired for both the Reinforced OPC and Reinforced Geopolymer concrete are 2.73 kΩcm and 2.07 kΩcm, as well as 4.18 km/s and 4.05 km/s, respectively. It is apparent from the study that both concrete is comparable in terms of quality and surface resistivity

    The PROVENT-C19 registry: A study protocol for international multicenter SIAARTI registry on the use of prone positioning in mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19 ARDS

    Background The worldwide use of prone position (PP) for invasively ventilated patients with COVID-19 is progressively increasing from the first pandemic wave in everyday clinical practice. Among the suggested treatments for the management of ARDS patients, PP was recommended in the Surviving Sepsis Campaign COVID-19 guidelines as an adjuvant therapy for improving ventilation. In patients with severe classical ARDS, some authors reported that early application of prolonged PP sessions significantly decreases 28-day and 90-day mortality. Methods and analysis Since January 2021, the COVID19 Veneto ICU Network research group has developed and implemented nationally and internationally the "PROVENT-C19 Registry", endorsed by the Italian Society of Anesthesia Analgesia Resuscitation and Intensive Care. . .'(SIAARTI). The PROVENT-C19 Registry wishes to describe 1. The real clinical practice on the use of PP in COVID-19 patients during the pandemic at a National and International level; and 2. Potential baseline and clinical characteristics that identify subpopulations of invasively ventilated patients with COVID-19 that may improve daily from PP therapy. This web-based registry will provide relevant information on how the database research tools may improve our daily clinical practice. Conclusions This multicenter, prospective registry is the first to identify and characterize the role of PP on clinical outcome in COVID-19 patients. In recent years, data emerging from large registries have been increasingly used to provide real-world evidence on the effectiveness, quality, and safety of a clinical intervention. Indeed observation-based registries could be effective tools aimed at identifying specific clusters of patients within a large study population with widely heterogeneous clinical characteristics.     Geology and rural landscapes in central Spain (Guadalajara, Castilla—La Mancha)

    Methods commonly used in regional geological analysis were employed to study the visual landscapes of the Sigüenza–Molina de Aragón area (Spain). Landscape data were compiled to produce a landscape map and a photograph catalogue. Lithological composition, tectonic structure and recent erosive processes are the main factors controlling the visual landscapes. Territorial properties, such as colours and agricultural capacities, are controlled by these geological characteristics. The landscape map and the photographic catalogue is the main contribution of this paper. The first level of landscape classification distinguishes zones with dominance of either flat, concave or convex areas. Other parts of the territory are, however, composed of concave and convex combinations that originate hybrid orographic structures. In a second level of classification, several subdivisions for each of these types are established
