    Social capital of educational institution: Contemporary state, features and prospects for the development

Objective: to study the level analysis of the social capital of secondary educational institutions (mesolevel), to identify the characteristics of the social capital of the teaching staff, to develop a list of effective management decisions and to determine the content of activities aimed at its augmenting. The leading methodical approaches are analysis of scientific sources, statistics, empirical analysis based on observation, questioning, testing, high-quality interpretation. The study involved 106 administrative and teaching staff. The main results of the study are: the revealed features of social capital of the secondary educational institution (SEI); a list of effective management decisions, and the content of future activities of the organization to enhance the level of social capital

    Challenges of international students' adjustment to a higher education institution

    © 2016 Kazakov.The relevance of this work is determined by the real problems of foreign students' adaptation to the educational environment of Russian high school. International students face certain problems, complicating adaptation to a new lifestyle, to the educational environment of the Russian high school, to a completely new social and cultural environment. Every year more and more foreign students come to Russia to get higher education, and every foreign student goes through an objective process of adaptation to college life. This article aims to develop recommendations, basic principles for an educational institution that provides educational services to foreign citizens. The leading method to the study of this problem is a qualitative method of case-study, which allows to focus on practical knowledge about real everyday situations, faced by foreign students in Russia. The case-study method provides an opportunity to pay close attention to the impact of social, cultural and academic factors on their adaptation. The article revealed that international students often face a series of transitional difficulties immediately after arriving to study in Russian universities. The problems are cataloged according to academic, social and cultural aspects. The article states that in order to overcome these problems, the students use resources provided mainly by the university. On the other hand, it is found out that these problems motivate foreign students to develop strategies to meet emerging challenges. The data obtained can be used in the practice of the university administration, faculty and staff to timely detect and eliminate academic, social and cultural challenges faced by international students at the beginning of their studies in Russia. Attention to these issues will provide more adequate support for foreign students

    Methodological teaching system of mathematical foundations of formal languages as a means of fundamentalization of education

The purpose of the study is to develop content and identify appropriate methods, forms and means of studying formal languages that take into account the specific character of professional development of the future specialist. The methodological basis of the study is the system approach and the methodology for selecting the content of education, which allows to generalize and systematize the process of constructing the content of teaching formal languages, and to improve the content of training to specific formal languages. The article suggests a system for studying mathematical foundations of formal languages as a system-forming element in the training of specialists in the field of computer science, programming, and IT-technologies. It gives reasons for the inclusion of elements of the theory of formal languages in the learning process, defines the structure and content of learning tasks and objectives, develops the system of end-to-end concepts and the logical structure of the course program, suggests the order of presenting the training material, the system of training assignments for a laboratory course on a computer. The developed system allows graduates to get the opportunity to develop a high-level understanding of systems in general, which contributes to a common understanding of the structure of computer systems, and the processes of their creation and analysis

The article aims to substantiate that emotional intelligence (EI) strengthens training quality of future professionals, gives it an emotional color, and thereby increases a variety of intellectual skills. The leading methodical approaches as analyses of electronic library documents and other scientific sources, empirical and experimental data, method of involved observation enabled to identify several parameters for creating a favorable emotional climate in the process of second language learning. The authors determine a set of conditions necessary for the formation of emotional intelligence, define and actualize obligatory interdisciplinary connections, which are expressed in the co-architecture of curricula, educational resources of the university faculty and in the choice of training and educational technology, as well as single out the prerequisites for emotional intelligence.     The supplementary education teacher’s portfolio: Essence, functions, structure and design principles

The article discloses the contradictions, which define the necessity and possibility to use teacher’s portfolio in the system of children’s supplementary education. It gives the author’s interpretation of the concept «supplementary education teacher’s portfolio», defines objectives, the portfolio functions and the principles of its design. The article offers the author’s structure of the supplementary education teacher’s portfolio, which reflects the main directions of the teacher’s professional activities, allows demonstrating the achievements and the results of these activities. The authors describe the alternatives to use the portfolio in supplementary education. The article reveals the risks of portfolio implementation in the institutions of supplementary education. Practical recommendations for the teacher’s portfolio development given in the article are practice– oriented. The article addresses the administration and the teachers of the children’s supplementary education institutions, the lecturers of the teacher’s training colleges, who train future teachers of the supplementary education as well as the educators of the extended education within the process of the professional skills improvement for supplementary education teachers
