Primary Fallopian Tube Carcinoma
Primary Fallopian Tube Carcinoma (PFTC) is rare and accounts for about 0.3% of all gynecologic cancers. Less than 1500 cases have been reported in the literature. It arises in postmenopausal women and typically presents with abdominal pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding and watery discharge. However, a correct diagnosis is rarely achieved preoperative, and in many cases, the diagnosis is made after incidental surgery for unrelated conditions commonly being ovarian carcinoma . Compared with ovarian carcinoma, PFTC more often presents at early stages, but it has a worse prognosis. PFTC is usually managed in the same manner as ovarian cancer. ViFi: accurate detection of viral integration and mRNA fusion reveals indiscriminate and unregulated transcription in proximal genomic regions in cervical cancer.
The integration of viral sequences into the host genome is an important driver of tumorigenesis in many viral mediated cancers, notably cervical cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. We present ViFi, a computational method that combines phylogenetic methods with reference-based read mapping to detect viral integrations. In contrast with read-based reference mapping approaches, ViFi is faster, and shows high precision and sensitivity on both simulated and biological data, even when the integrated virus is a novel strain or highly mutated. We applied ViFi to matched genomic and mRNA data from 68 cervical cancer samples from TCGA and found high concordance between the two. Surprisingly, viral integration resulted in a dramatic transcriptional upregulation in all proximal elements, including LINEs and LTRs that are not normally transcribed. This upregulation is highly correlated with the presence of a viral gene fused with a downstream human element. Moreover, genomic rearrangements suggest the formation of apparent circular extrachromosomal (ecDNA) human-viral structures. Our results suggest the presence of apparent small circular fusion viral/human ecDNA, which correlates with indiscriminate and unregulated expression of proximal genomic elements, potentially contributing to the pathogenesis of HPV-associated cervical cancers. Case report of multiple hepatic microabscesses in a term neonate
Neonatal liver abscess is a rare entity, which usually occurs in preterm infants with sepsis and certain risk factors like umbilical vein catheterization. Neonatal hepatic abscess has a non-specific clinical presentation, and a high index of suspicion for this condition is warranted in case of unresolving sepsis especially in the presence of risk factors. Ultrasonography of abdomen is an important investigation in a febrile neonate with sepsis. Here, we report a case of hepatic microabscesses in a term neonate without any significant risk factors. We want to report this case because of its rare occurrence particularly in a term neonate without significant risk factors. This case also emphasizes the utility of abdominal ultrasonography in a febrile neonate with unresolving sepsis

We consider the following NP-hard problem: in a weighted graph, find a
minimum cost set of vertices whose removal leaves a graph in which no two
cycles share an edge. We obtain a constant-factor approximation algorithm,
based on the primal-dual method. Moreover, we show that the integrality gap of
the natural LP relaxation of the problem is \Theta(\log n), where n denotes the

Online Pattern Matching for String Edit Distance with Moves
Edit distance with moves (EDM) is a string-to-string distance measure that
includes substring moves in addition to ordinal editing operations to turn one
string to the other. Although optimizing EDM is intractable, it has many
applications especially in error detections. Edit sensitive parsing (ESP) is an
efficient parsing algorithm that guarantees an upper bound of parsing
discrepancies between different appearances of the same substrings in a string.
ESP can be used for computing an approximate EDM as the L1 distance between
characteristic vectors built by node labels in parsing trees. However, ESP is
not applicable to a streaming text data where a whole text is unknown in
advance. We present an online ESP (OESP) that enables an online pattern
matching for EDM. OESP builds a parse tree for a streaming text and computes
the L1 distance between characteristic vectors in an online manner. For the
space-efficient computation of EDM, OESP directly encodes the parse tree into a
succinct representation by leveraging the idea behind recent results of a
dynamic succinct tree. We experimentally test OESP on the ability to compute

A study to assess the factors associated with developmental delay and nutritional status among the children with cleft lip and/or cleft palate
Background: Cleft lip with or without cleft palate is one of the most common congenital anomalies. Development is often affected in these children. It may be due to other associated defects, syndromic status, or malnutrition. Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the factors associated with developmental delay and nutritional status among the children with cleft lip and/or cleft palate. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Pediatrics of a Medical College in Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, for 2 years from August 2010 to March 2012. All children below 15 years with cleft lip and/or palate admitted in the pediatric ward, the neonatal intensive care unit, or postnatal ward were included in the study. A total of 200 children were included in the study and were analyzed for developmental delay and growth lag. Results: Cleft clip was seen in 51 (25.5%) of the children, 25 (12.5%) had cleft palate, and 124 (62%) had both cleft lip and palate. Developmental delay was more common in cleft palate category; however, it was not statistically significant (χ2=0.90, p=0.34). Unilateral form of defects had more number of delays as compared to bilateral defects, and it was statistically significant (χ2=7.32, p=0.006). Delay was more common when both the defects were present together as compared to isolated defects; however, it was not statistically significant. Gross motor and language delay were the most common type followed by global and personal social. 12.5% of children were syndromic. Most of the syndromic children (64%) had global developmental delay (χ2=7.84, significant). 69.6% of children below the age group of 5 years were malnourished (χ2=16, significant). Faulty feeding (73.5%), recurrent respiratory infections (21.4%), and repeated hospitalization (17.1%) were the statistically significant factors for poor growth. Conclusion: Global developmental delay was more common in syndromic children. Overall, delay was more commonly seen in children with unilateral defect. Factors, which contributed to growth lag, were faulty feeding, recurrent respiratory infections, and repeated hospitalization
