Signals of neutralinos and charginos from gauge boson fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
We point out that interesting signals of the non-strongly interacting sector
of the supersymmetric standard model arise from the production of charginos and
neutralinos via vector boson fusion (VBF) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
In particular, if R-parity is violated, the hadronically quiet signals of
charginos and neutralinos through direct production get considerably
suppressed. We show that in such cases, the VBF channel can be useful in
identifying this sector through clean and background-free final states.Comment: 10 pages Latex, 8 figures, minor changes in text and few references

Vibrational properties of amorphous silicon from tight-binding O(N) calculation
We present an O(N) algorithm to study the vibrational properties of amorphous
silicon within the framework of tight-binding approach. The dynamical matrix
elements have been evaluated numerically in the harmonic approximation
exploiting the short-range nature of the density matrix to calculate the
vibrational density of states which is then compared with the same obtained
from a standard O() algorithm. For the purpose of illustration, an
1000-atom model is studied to calculate the localization properties of the
vibrational eigenstates using the participation numbers calculation.Comment: 5 pages including 5 ps figures; added a figure and a few references;

Constrained Supersymmetric Flipped SU(5) GUT Phenomenology
We explore the phenomenology of the minimal supersymmetric flipped SU(5) GUT
model (CFSU(5)), whose soft supersymmetry-breaking (SSB) mass parameters are
constrained to be universal at some input scale, , above the GUT scale,
. We analyze the parameter space of CFSU(5) assuming that the lightest
supersymmetric particle (LSP) provides the cosmological cold dark matter,
paying careful attention to the matching of parameters at the GUT scale. We
first display some specific examples of the evolutions of the SSB parameters
that exhibit some generic features. Specifically, we note that the relationship
between the masses of the lightest neutralino and the lighter stau is sensitive
to , as is the relationship between the neutralino mass and the masses
of the heavier Higgs bosons. For these reasons, prominent features in generic
planes such as coannihilation strips and rapid-annihilation
funnels are also sensitive to , as we illustrate for several cases with
tan(beta)=10 and 55. However, these features do not necessarily disappear at
large , unlike the case in the minimal conventional SU(5) GUT. Our
results are relatively insensitive to neutrino masses.Comment: 23 pages, 8 figures; (v2) added explanations and corrected typos,

Cosmological consequences of Yukawa-unified SUSY with mixed axion/axino cold and warm dark matter
Supersymmetric models with t-b-\tau Yukawa unification at M_{GUT}
qualitatively predict a sparticle mass spectrum including first and second
generation scalars at the 3--15 TeV scale, third generation scalars at the
(few) TeV scale and gluinos in the sub-TeV range. The neutralino relic density
in these models typically turns out to lie far above the measured dark matter
abundance, prompting the suggestion that instead dark matter is composed of an
axion/axino mixture. We explore the axion and thermal and non-thermal axino
dark matter abundance in Yukawa-unified SUSY models. We find in this scenario
that {\it i}). rather large values of Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking scale
f_a\sim 10^{12} GeV are favored and {\it ii}). rather large values of GUT scale
scalar masses \sim 10-15 TeV allow for the re-heat temperature T_R of the
universe to be T_R\agt 10^6 GeV. This allows in turn a solution to the
gravitino/Big Bang Nucleosynthesis problem while also allowing for baryogenesis
via non-thermal leptogenesis. The large scalar masses for Yukawa-unified models
are also favored by data on b\to s\gamma and B_s\to \mu^+\mu^- decay. Testable
consequences from this scenario include a variety of robust LHC signatures, a
possible axion detection at axion search experiments, but null results from
direct and indirect WIMP search experiments.Comment: 27 pages including 16 EPS figure
Reconstructing Seesaws
We explore some aspects of "reconstructing" the heavy singlet sector of
supersymmetric type I seesaw models, for two, three or four singlets. We work
in the limit where one light neutrino is massless. In an ideal world, where
selected coefficients of the TeV-scale effective Lagrangian could be measured
with arbitrary accuracy, the two-singlet case can be reconstructed, two three
or more singlets can be differentiated, and an inverse seesaw with four
singlets can be reconstructed. In a more realistic world, we estimate \ell_\a
\to \ell_\b \gamma expectations with a "Minimal-Flavour-Violation-like"
ansatz, which gives a relation between ratios of the three branching ratios.
The two singlet model predicts a discrete set of ratios.Comment: 14 page
Seesaw mechanism in the sneutrino sector and its consequences
The seesaw-extended MSSM provides a framework in which the observed light
neutrino masses and mixing angles can be generated in the context of a natural
theory for the TeV-scale. Sneutrino-mixing phenomena provide valuable tools for
connecting the physics of neutrinos and supersymmetry. We examine the
theoretical structure of the seesaw-extended MSSM, retaining the full
complexity of three generations of neutrinos and sneutrinos. In this general
framework, new flavor-changing and CP-violating sneutrino processes are
allowed, and are parameterized in terms of two matrices that
respectively preserve and violate lepton number. The elements of these matrices
can be bounded by analyzing the rate for rare flavor-changing decays of charged
leptons and the one-loop contribution to neutrino masses. In the former case,
new contributions arise in the seesaw extended model which are not present in
the ordinary MSSM. In the latter case, sneutrino--antisneutrino mixing
generates the leading correction at one-loop to neutrino masses, and could
provide the origin of the observed texture of the light neutrino mass matrix.
Finally, we derive general formulae for sneutrino--antisneutrino oscillations
and sneutrino flavor-oscillations. Unfortunately, neither oscillation phenomena
is likely to be observable at future colliders.Comment: 69 pages, 5 figures, uses axodraw.sty. Version accepted for

Mass matrix Ansatz and lepton flavor violation in the THDM-III
Predictive Higgs-fermion couplings can be obtained when a specific texture
for the fermion mass matrices is included in the general two-Higgs doublet
model. We derive the form of these couplings in the charged lepton sector using
a Hermitian mass matrix Ansatz with four-texture zeros. The presence of
unconstrained phases in the vertices phi-li-lj modifies the pattern of
flavor-violating Higgs interactions. Bounds on the model parameters are
obtained from present limits on rare lepton flavor violating processes, which
could be extended further by the search for the decay tau -> mu mu mu and mu-e
conversion at future experiments. The signal from Higgs boson decays phi -> tau
mu could be searched at the large hadron collider (LHC), while e-mu transitions
could produce a detectable signal at a future e mu-collider, through the
reaction e mu -> h0 -> tau tau.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figure
Flavour and Collider Interplay for SUSY at LHC7
The current 7 TeV run of the LHC experiment shall be able to probe gluino and
squark masses up to values larger than 1 TeV. Assuming that hints for SUSY are
found in the jets plus missing energy channel by the end of a 5 fb run,
we explore the flavour constraints on three models with a CMSSM-like spectrum:
the CMSSM itself, a Seesaw extension of the CMSSM, and Flavoured CMSSM. In
particular, we focus on decays that might have been measured by the time the
run is concluded, such as and . We also analyse
constraints imposed by neutral meson bounds and electric dipole moments. The
interplay between collider and flavour experiments is explored through the use
of three benchmark scenarios, finding the flavour feedback useful in order to
determine the model parameters and to test the consistency of the different
models.Comment: 44 pages, 15 figures; v3: minor corrections, added references,
