Japon, Chine, Corée : vers une conscience historique commune ?
This paper introduces past and current attempts to forge a common historical consciousness between Japan, China, and South Korea â official committees examining the historical disagreements between the three countries, citizen groups attempting to create common learning material, and local or individual initiatives. Contrary to the common view of being a historical battlefield, Japan, China, and South Korea have also been courageously confronting the largest issues concerning their shared past. Nevertheless, a comparison with the European experience, especially that of the French-German common textbook, prompts caution regarding these attempts' real chance for success. Babicz Lionel. Le Japon de Meiji et la Corée
The process which resulted in the annexation of Korea to Japan in 1910 is part of a larger structure : that of the development of Japanese imperialism. This imperialism is in itself a corollary to the country's modernization. The road which led to annexation was not a straight one. Each step was the result of internal and external constraints ; and at the same time, the choices which were made restricted the range of future possibilities. The Korean episode is supposedly indicative of a "Great Plan" instigated and directed since the very beginning of Meiji. Babicz Lionel.
