    Lithuanian diplomatic service between June 15, 1940 and March 11, 1991

    In the historical article that has the character of memoirs the author describes the situation of Lithuania’s diplomacy following the country’s occupation by the Soviets on June 15, 1940. The activities arc analysed of the then leaders of the Republic of Lithuania that were chiefly aimed at retaining the Lithuanian embassies abroad and thus continuing the statehood of Lithuania. The president of the Republic Antanas Smetona appointed Stasys Lozoraitis, the former representative of Lithuania in Italy, chief of Lithuania’s Diplomatic Corps. The main objective of Stasys Lozoraitis’s activities consisted in retaining the country’s representations and representing it abroad. It is noted that in part he has accomplished this task. Diplomatic work was carried out and Lithuania was represented until it regained its independence by both experienced diplomats and newly appointed ones
