Superspace Formulation for the BRST Quantization of the Chiral Schwinger Model

    Get PDF
It has recently been shown that the Field Antifield quantization of anomalous irreducible gauge theories with closed algebra can be represented in a BRST superspace where the quantum action at one loop order, including the Wess Zumino term, and the anomalies show up as components of the same superfield. We show here how the Chiral Schwinger model can be represented in this formulation.Comment: 11 pages, Late

O direito na perspectiva dos autores da sociologia clássica: Durkheim, Weber e Marx

    Get PDF

Mirax: A Brazilian X-Ray Astronomy Satellite Mission

We describe the ``Monitor e Imageador de Raios-X'' (MIRAX), an X-ray astronomy satellite mission proposed by the high energy astrophysics group at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in Brazil to the Brazilian Space Agency. MIRAX is an international collaboration that includes, besides INPE, the University of California San Diego, the University of Tuebingen in Germany, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Space Research Organization Netherlands. The payload of MIRAX will consist in two identical hard X-ray cameras (10 -200 keV) and one soft X-ray camera (2-28 keV), both with angular resolution of ~ 5-6 arcmin. The basic objective of MIRAX is to carry out continuous broadband imaging spectroscopy observations of a large source sample (~ 9 months/yr) in the central Galactic plane region. This will allow the detection, localization, possible identification, and spectral/temporal study of the entire history of transient phenomena to be carried out in one single mission. MIRAX will have sensitivities of ~ 5 mCrab/day in the 2-10 keV band (~2 times better than the All Sky Monitor on Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer) and 2.6 mCrab/day in the 10-100 keV band (~40 times better than the Earth Occultation technique of the Burst and Transient Source Experiment on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory). The MIRAX spacecraft will weigh about 200 kg and is expected to be launched in a low-altitude (~ 600 km) circular equatorial orbit around 2007/2008.Comment: 6 pages, 1 table, 3 figures, presented at 2002 COSPAR meeting in Houston. Conditional entropy of glueball states

The conditional entropy of glueball states is calculated using a holographic description. Glueball states are represented by a supergravity dual picture, consisting of a 5-dimensional graviton-dilaton action of a dynamical holographic AdS/QCD model. The conditional entropy is studied as a function of the glueball spin and of the mass, providing information about the stability of the glueball states.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

Weak Galactic Halo--Fornax dSph Connection from RR Lyrae Stars

For the first time accurate pulsation properties of the ancient variable stars of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy (dSph) are discussed in the broad context of galaxy formation and evolution. Homogeneous multi-band BVIBVI optical photometry of spanning {\it twenty} years has allowed us to identify and characterize more than 1400 RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) in this galaxy. Roughly 70\% are new discoveries. We investigate the period-amplitude distribution and find that Fornax shows a lack of High Amplitude (A_V\gsim0.75 mag) Short Period fundamental-mode RRLs (P\lsim0.48 d, HASPs). These objects occur in stellar populations more metal-rich than [Fe/H]\sim-1.5 and they are common in the Galactic halo (Halo) and in globulars. This evidence suggests that old (age older than 10 Gyr) Fornax stars are relatively metal-poor. A detailed statistical analysis of the role of the present-day Fornax dSph in reproducing the Halo period distribution shows that it can account for only a few to 20\% of the Halo when combined with RRLs in massive dwarf galaxies (Sagittarius dSph, Large Magellanic Cloud). This finding indicates that Fornax-like systems played a minor role in building up the Halo when compared with massive dwarfs. We also discuss the occurrence of HASPs in connection with the luminosity and the early chemical composition of nearby dwarf galaxies. We find that, independently of their individual star formation histories, bright (M_V\lsim-13.5 mag) galaxies have HASPs, whereas faint ones (M_V\gsim-11 mag) do not. Interestingly enough, Fornax belongs to a luminosity range (--11<<MV<_V<--13.5 mag) in which the occurrence of HASPs appears to be correlated with the early star formation and chemical enrichment of the host galaxy.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, A&A, accepte

    Triplectic Quantization of W2 gravity

    Get PDF
The role of one loop order corrections in the triplectic quantization is discussed in the case of W2 theory. This model illustrates the presence of anomalies and Wess Zumino terms in this quantization scheme where extended BRST invariance is represented in a completely anticanonical form.Comment: 10 pages, no figure
