Parasupersymmetric Quantum Mechanics with Generalized Deformed Parafermions
A superposition of bosons and generalized deformed parafermions corresponding
to an arbitrary paraquantization order is considered to provide
deformations of parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics. New families of
parasupersymmetric Hamiltonians are constructed in connection with two examples
of su(2) nonlinear deformations such as introduced by Polychronakos and Ro\v

Local Molecular Dynamics with Coulombic Interaction
We propose a local, O(N) molecular dynamics algorithm for the simulation of
charged systems. The long ranged Coulomb potential is generated by a
propagating electric field that obeys modified Maxwell equations. On coupling
the electrodynamic equations to an external thermostat we show that the
algorithm produces an effective Coulomb potential between particles. On
annealing the electrodynamic degrees of freedom the field configuration
converges to a solution of the Poisson equation much like the electronic
degrees of freedom approach the ground state in ab-initio molecular dynamics.Comment: 4 pages with 3 figure
Laser Guide Stars for Extremely Large Telescopes: Efficient Shack-Hartmann Wavefront Sensor Design using Weighted center-of-gravity algorithm
Over the last few years increasing consideration has been given to the study
of Laser Guide Stars (LGS) for the measurement of the disturbance introduced by
the atmosphere in optical and near-infrared astronomical observations from the
ground. A possible method for the generation of a LGS is the excitation of the
Sodium layer in the upper atmosphere at approximately 90 km of altitude. Since
the Sodium layer is approximately 10 km thick, the artificial reference source
looks elongated, especially when observed from the edge of a large aperture.
The spot elongation strongly limits the performance of the most common
wavefront sensors. The centroiding accuracy in a Shack-Hartmann wavefront
sensor, for instance, decreases proportionally to the elongation (in a photon
noise dominated regime). To compensate for this effect a straightforward
solution is to increase the laser power, i.e. to increase the number of
detected photons per subaperture. The scope of the work presented in this paper
is twofold: an analysis of the performance of the Weighted Center of Gravity
algorithm for centroiding with elongated spots and the determination of the
required number of photons to achieve a certain average wavefront error over

Carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas fluxes in grassland. A review. Grassland carbon (C) sequestration can play an important role in mitigating total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of livestock production systems. An accurate inventory of livestock production system contribution to GHG emissions requires to think in terms of global budget, by considering both the GHG sources and the mitigation potential trough grassland soil carbon sequestration. There is a huge variability in C and GHG balances of grasslands that is mainly due to management practices and climatic conditions. The present article shows that, to reduce the uncertainties of the results, long term measurements at the field scale are necessary. Also, it shows the importance of taking into account the fluxes of the three main GHGs (carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane) into account when calculating the GHG budget. This article also highlights the need for a better understanding of the mechanisms driving the fluxes, in relation to environmental factors and management practices, in order to propose mitigation strategies able to enhance soil carbon sequestration in soils and to reduce methane and nitrous oxide emissions
Group theoretical approach to the intertwined Hamiltonians
We show that the finite difference B\"acklund formula for the Schr\"odinger
Hamiltonians is a particular element of the transformation group on the set of
Riccati equations considered by two of us in a previous paper. Then, we give a
group theoretical explanation to the problem of Hamiltonians related by a first
order differential operator. A generalization of the finite difference
algorithm relating eigenfunctions of {\emph three} different Hamiltonians is
found, and some illustrative examples of the theory are analyzed, finding new
potentials for which one eigenfunction and its corresponding eigenvalue is
exactly known

The prevalence of endemic iodine-deficiency goitre in Europe has been reduced in many areas by the introduction of iodination programmes. Recent reports, however, show that goitre remains a significant problem and that its prevalence has not decreased in a number of European countries. Hetzel1 has pointed out that the high global prevalence of iodine-deficiency disorders could be eradicated within 5-10 years by introduction of an iodised salt programme. Solar Physics - Plasma Physics Workshop
A summary of the proceedings of a conference whose purpose was to explore plasma physics problems which arise in the study of solar physics is provided. Sessions were concerned with specific questions including the following: (1) whether the solar plasma is thermal or non-themal; (2) what spectroscopic data is required; (3) what types of magnetic field structures exist; (4) whether magnetohydrodynamic instabilities occur; (5) whether resistive or non-magnetohydrodynamic instabilities occur; (6) what mechanisms of particle acceleration have been proposed; and (7) what information is available concerning shock waves. Very few questions were answered categorically but, for each question, there was discussion concerning the observational evidence, theoretical analyses, and existing or potential laboratory and numerical experiments
Side-channel based intrusion detection for industrial control systems
Industrial Control Systems are under increased scrutiny. Their security is
historically sub-par, and although measures are being taken by the
manufacturers to remedy this, the large installed base of legacy systems cannot
easily be updated with state-of-the-art security measures. We propose a system
that uses electromagnetic side-channel measurements to detect behavioural
changes of the software running on industrial control systems. To demonstrate
the feasibility of this method, we show it is possible to profile and
distinguish between even small changes in programs on Siemens S7-317 PLCs,

Good, better, engaged? The effect of company-initiated customer engagement behavior on shareholder value
In today’s connected world, customer engagement behaviors are very important. Many companies launch initiatives to stimulate customer engagement. However, despite evidence that customer engagement behavior also matters to share-holders, academic research on the firm value consequences of customer engagement campaigns is limited. This study is the first to investigate the value-related consequences of firm-initiated customer engagement behaviors, using shareholder evaluations of the public announcements of such initiatives. We find that companies’ customer engagement initiatives, on average, decrease market value, which is likely because the shareholders are sensitive to the risk of these initiatives backfiring.Nevertheless, initiatives that stimulate word-of-mouth are viewed less negatively than initiatives that solicit customer feedback, as are initiatives that are supported by social media. Companies that operate in a competitive environment or do not advertise much can create value by stimulating customer engagement, while companies with a strong corporate reputation are likely to not benefit from it
