Asymptotics for Hermite-Pade rational approximants for two analytic functions with separated pairs of branch points (case of genus 0)

We investigate the asymptotic behavior for type II Hermite-Pade approximation to two functions, where each function has two branch points and the pairs of branch points are separated. We give a classification of the cases such that the limiting counting measures for the poles of the Hermite-Pade approximants are described by an algebraic function of order 3 and genus 0. This situation gives rise to a vector-potential equilibrium problem for three measures and the poles of the common denominator are asymptotically distributed like one of these measures. We also work out the strong asymptotics for the corresponding Hermite-Pade approximants by using a 3x3 Riemann-Hilbert problem that characterizes this Hermite-Pade approximation problem.Comment: 102 pages, 31 figure

Placement of cuts in Padé-like approximation

AbstractWe propose a method for continuing an analytic function from its power series expansion that enables us to choose the location of cuts joining the branch points. The method is superior to the Padé approximant method in this respect and also because point-wise convergence may be proved

Objective User Engagement With Mental Health Apps: Systematic Search and Panel-Based Usage Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Understanding patterns of real-world usage of mental health apps is key to maximizing their potential to increase public self-management of care. Although developer-led studies have published results on the use of mental health apps in real-world settings, no study yet has systematically examined usage patterns of a large sample of mental health apps relying on independently collected data. OBJECTIVE: Our aim is to present real-world objective data on user engagement with popular mental health apps. METHODS: A systematic engine search was conducted using Google Play to identify Android apps with 10,000 installs or more targeting anxiety, depression, or emotional well-being. Coding of apps included primary incorporated techniques and mental health focus. Behavioral data on real-world usage were obtained from a panel that provides aggregated nonpersonal information on user engagement with mobile apps. RESULTS: In total, 93 apps met the inclusion criteria (installs: median 100,000, IQR 90,000). The median percentage of daily active users (open rate) was 4.0% (IQR 4.7%) with a difference between trackers (median 6.3%, IQR 10.2%) and peer-support apps (median 17.0%) versus breathing exercise apps (median 1.6%, IQR 1.6%; all z≥3.42, all P CONCLUSIONS: Although the number of app installs and daily active minutes of use may seem high, only a small portion of users actually used the apps for a long period of time. More studies using different datasets are needed to understand this phenomenon and the ways in which users self-manage their condition in real-world settings

Economics of alternative coal transportation and distribution systems in Iowa

    Get PDF
Iowa coal users consumed approximately 7.9 million tons of coal in 1976. Consumption of coal in Iowa is expected to climb to about 16.1 million tons by 1980. Only 540,000 tons of Iowa coal were mined in 1976. Iowa coal production continues to decline in a period of increasing demand.https://lib.dr.iastate.edu/specialreports/1077/thumbnail.jp

Representation of a complex Green function on a real basis: I. General Theory

When the Hamiltonian of a system is represented by a finite matrix, constructed from a discrete basis, the matrix representation of the resolvent covers only one branch. We show how all branches can be specified by the phase of a complex unit of time. This permits the Hamiltonian matrix to be constructed on a real basis; the only duty of the basis is to span the dynamical region of space, without regard for the particular asymptotic boundary conditions that pertain to the problem of interest.Comment: about 40 pages with 5 eps-figure

Impact of Six Genetic Modifications of Corn on Feed Cost and the Consumption of Traditional Feed Ingredients

    Get PDF
There is excitement about the potential profit and economic development opportunities from genetic modifications of grain. This excitement is manifested in huge industry consolidations through buyouts, joint ventures, and mergers of chemical, seed and agribusiness companies. State and federal government agencies and private organizations have developed programs to encourage and facilitate the production, handling, processing, and marketing of genetically modified grains. Huge investments are being allocated to research and development of new commodities and specialty grains. A large share of these research and development funds are being invested in modifying com because of the large amount of com produced in the United States and its diversity of uses. About 80 percent of the U.S. corn crop is used in animal feeds domestically and abroad; therefore, genetic modifications of com for animal feed are believed to have major profit and development potential
