A SAURON look at galaxy bulges
Kinematic and population studies show that bulges are generally rotationally
flattened systems similar to low-luminosity ellipticals. However, observations
with state-of-the-art integral field spectrographs, such as SAURON, indicate
that the situation is much more complex, and allow us to investigate phenomena
such as triaxiality, kinematic decoupling and population substructure, and to
study their connection to current formation and evolution scenarios for bulges
of early-type galaxies. We present the examples of two S0 bulges from galaxies
in our sample of nearby galaxies: one that shows all the properties expected
from classical bulges (NGC5866), and another case that presents kinematic
features appropriate for barred disk galaxies (NGC7332).Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publishing in AN (refereed conf.

The involvement of Nrf2 in depression: systematic review of preclinical studies
Increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and decreased antioxidant defenses are likely to be linked to the development of depressive symptoms. Nrf2 plays an important role in cellular defense against oxidative
stress and binds to ARE, which is located in the promoter region of several phase II antioxidant enzymes and associated stress-responsive enzymes. Reduced Keap1-Nrf2 signaling is implicated in the pathogenesis of mood disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Are juveniles who have committed sexual offenses the same everywhere? psychometric properties of the juvenile sex offender assessment protocol–II in a portuguese youth sample
Over the last decade, we have witnessed consistent advances in risk assessment procedures, namely the validation of those used with juveniles who have committed sexual offenses. The adaptation of these instruments into other languages requires research examining the conceptual and metric equivalence of the instruments, not just translation equivalence. Informed by data from 141 boys, aged 13 to 18, the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Juvenile Sex Offender Assessment Protocol–II (J-SOAP-II), regarding reliability and construct validation, are presented and discussed. Factor structure, internal consistency, and interrater reliability were examined, and a reliable factorial structure that was consistent with the original validation of the J-SOAP was found. Scales 2 and 3 had good internal consistency, and Scale 1 had acceptable internal consistency. Results regarding concurrent validity revealed mostly statistically significant correlations. The implications of this research for juvenile sex offender risk assessments are discussed. The author(s) received no financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article
Towards a new classification of early-type galaxies: an integral-field view
In this proceeding we make use of the two-dimensional stellar kinematics of a
representative sample of E and S0 galaxies obtained with the SAURON
integral-field spectrograph to reveal that early-type galaxies appear in two
broad flavours, depending on whether they exhibit clear large-scale rotation or
not. We measure the level of rotation via a new parameter LambdaR and use it as
a basis for a new kinematic classification that separates early-type galaxies
into slow and fast rotators. With the aid of broad-band imaging we will
reinforce this finding by comparing our kinematic results to the photometric
properties of these two classes.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, to appear in "Pathways Through an Eclectic

The Offline Software Framework of the Pierre Auger Observatory
The Pierre Auger Observatory is designed to unveil the nature and the origins
of the highest energy cosmic rays. The large and geographically dispersed
collaboration of physicists and the wide-ranging collection of simulation and
reconstruction tasks pose some special challenges for the offline analysis
software. We have designed and implemented a general purpose framework which
allows collaborators to contribute algorithms and sequencing instructions to
build up the variety of applications they require. The framework includes
machinery to manage these user codes, to organize the abundance of
user-contributed configuration files, to facilitate multi-format file handling,
and to provide access to event and time-dependent detector information which
can reside in various data sources. A number of utilities are also provided,
including a novel geometry package which allows manipulation of abstract
geometrical objects independent of coordinate system choice. The framework is
implemented in C++, and takes advantage of object oriented design and common
open source tools, while keeping the user side simple enough for C++ novices to
learn in a reasonable time. The distribution system incorporates unit and
acceptance testing in order to support rapid development of both the core
framework and contributed user code.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, presented at IEEE NSS/MIC, 23-29 October 2005,

Development, characterisation, and consumer acceptance of an innovative vegan burger with seaweed
This work was funded by national funds through FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., within the scope of the project MARE (UIDB/04292/2020 and UIDP/04292/2020) and the project LA/P/0069/2020 granted to the Associate Laboratory ARNET. This study was financially supported by ProReMar project (MAR-04,03,01-FEAMP-0380) funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund under the Operational Program Mar 2020/Nacional.What consumers choose when purchasing food is of most importance to promote sustainability. The consumption of more sustainable foods should be stimulated, for example, by using more sustainable ingredients and by consumer education. Therefore, an innovative and highly nutritious vegan burger with seaweed (VBS) was developed using sustainable ingredients, such as pulses—grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) and chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)—and the seaweed Dulse (Palmaria palmata L.) from aquaculture. VBS was analysed for its physico-chemical and nutritional characteristics, including antioxidant activity (DPPH, TPC) and fatty acid and mineral element profiles. Shelf life and consumer acceptability were determined. The VBS was shown to be a source of protein (8.01 ± 0.14% fresh weight (FW)), fibre (5.75% FW), and mineral elements, such as P, Fe, rich in Mg, Mn, and Cu, while having low sodium content. Moreover, it presents a low sugar content. Furthermore, no antioxidant activity was detected. The pasteurised and vacuum-packed product had a shelf life of 90 days and was well accepted by consumers (64.0% acceptance). It may be concluded that an innovative VBS, nutritionally rich and with a shelf life of 90 days, was developed and well accepted by consumers, which is a good addition to a rich and diverse diet.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
