Semiclassical Hartree-Fock theory of a rotating Bose-Einstein condensation

In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamic behavior of a rotating Bose-Einstein condensation with non-zero interatomic interactions theoretically. The analysis relies on a semiclassical Hartree-Fock approximation where an integral is performed over the phase space and function of the grand canonical ensemble is derived. Subsequently, we use this result to derive several thermodynamic quantities including the condensate fraction, critical temperature, entropy and heat capacity. Thereby, we investigate the effect of the rotation rate and interactions parameter on the thermodynamic behavior. The role of finite size is discussed. Our approach can be extended to consider the rotating condensate in optical potential

An Improved Speech Emotion Classification Approach Based on Optimal Voiced Unit

    Get PDF
Emotional speech recognition (ESR) has significant role in human-computer interaction. ESR methodology involves audio segmentation for selecting units to analyze, extract features relevant to emotion, and finally perform a classification process. Previous research assumed that a single utterance was the unit of analysis. They believed that the emotional state remained constant during the utterance, even though the emotional state could change over time, even within a single utterance. As a result, using an utterance as a single unit is ineffective for this purpose. The study’s goal is to discover a new voiced unit that can be utilized to improve ESR accuracy. Several voiced units based on voiced segments were investigated. To determine the best-voiced unit, each unit is evaluated using an ESR based on a support vector machine classifier. The proposed method was validated using three datasets: EMO-DB, EMOVO, and SAVEE. Experimental results revealed that a voiced unit with five-voiced segments has the highest recognition rate. The emotional state of the overall utterance is decided by a majority vote of its parts’ emotional states. The proposed method outperforms the traditional method in terms of classification outcomes. EMO-DB, EMOVO, and SAVEE improve their recognition rates by 12%, 27%, and 23%, respectively

AGN All the Way Down? AGN-like Line Ratios are Common In the Lowest-Mass Isolated Quiescent Galaxies

We investigate the lowest-mass quiescent galaxies known to exist in isolated environments (M=109.09.5 M\mathrm{M^* = 10^{9.0-9.5} \ M_\odot}; 1.5 Mpc from a more massive galaxy). This population may represent the lowest stellar mass galaxies in which internal feedback quenches galaxy-wide star formation. We present Keck/ESI long-slit spectroscopy for 27 isolated galaxies in this regime: 20 quiescent galaxies and 7 star-forming galaxies. We measure emission line strengths as a function of radius and place galaxies on the Baldwin Phillips Terlevich (BPT) diagram. Remarkably, 16 of 20 quiescent galaxies in our sample host central AGN-like line ratios. Only 5 of these quiescent galaxies were identified as AGN-like in SDSS due to lower spatial resolution and signal-to-noise. We find that many of the quiescent galaxies in our sample have spatially-extended emission across the non-SF regions of BPT-space. When considering only the central 1^{\prime\prime}, we identify a tight relationship between distance from the BPT star-forming sequence and host galaxy stellar age as traced by Dn4000\mathrm{D_n4000}, such that older stellar ages are associated with larger distances from the star-forming locus. Our results suggest that the presence of hard ionizing radiation (AGN-like line ratios) is intrinsically tied to the quenching of what may be the lowest-mass self-quenched galaxies.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Ap

COVID-19 Detection on Chest x-ray Images by Combining Histogram-oriented Gradient and Convolutional Neural Network Features

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic has spread rapidly worldwide after a person became infected with a severe health problem. The World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus a global threat (WHO). Early detection of COVID 19, particularly in cases with no apparent symptoms, may reduce the patients mortality rate. COVID 19 detection using machine learning techniques will aid healthcare systems around the world in recovering patients more rapidly. This disease is diagnosed using x-ray images of the chest; therefore, this study proposed a machine vision method for detecting COVID-19 in x-ray images of the chest. The histogram-oriented gradient (HOG) and convolutional neural network (CNN) features extracted from x-ray images were fused and classified using support vector machine (SVM) and softmax. The proposed feature fusion technique (99.36 percent) outperformed individual feature extraction methods such as HOG (87.34 percent) and CNN (93.64 percent)

The origin of ultra diffuse galaxies: stellar feedback and quenching

    Get PDF
We test if the cosmological zoom-in simulations of isolated galaxies from the FIRE project reproduce the properties of ultra diffuse galaxies. We show that stellar feedback-generated outflows that dynamically heat galactic stars, together with a passively aging stellar population after imposed quenching (from e.g. infall into a galaxy cluster), naturally reproduce the observed population of red UDGs, without the need for high spin halos or dynamical influence from their host cluster. We reproduce the range of surface brightness, radius and absolute magnitude of the observed z=0 red UDGs by quenching simulated galaxies at a range of different times. They represent a mostly uniform population of dark matter-dominated galaxies with M_star ~1e8 Msun, low metallicity and a broad range of ages. The most massive simulated UDGs require earliest quenching and are therefore the oldest. Our simulations provide a good match to the central enclosed masses and the velocity dispersions of the observed UDGs (20-50 km/s). The enclosed masses of the simulated UDGs remain largely fixed across a broad range of quenching times because the central regions of their dark matter halos complete their growth early. A typical UDG forms in a dwarf halo mass range of Mh~4e10-1e11 Msun. The most massive red UDG in our sample requires quenching at z~3 when its halo reached Mh ~ 1e11 Msun. If it, instead, continues growing in the field, by z=0 its halo mass reaches > 5e11 Msun, comparable to the halo of an L* galaxy. If our simulated dwarfs are not quenched, they evolve into bluer low-surface brightness galaxies with mass-to-light ratios similar to observed field dwarfs. While our simulation sample covers a limited range of formation histories and halo masses, we predict that UDG is a common, and perhaps even dominant, galaxy type around Ms~1e8 Msun, both in the field and in clusters.Comment: 20 pages, 13 figures; match the MNRAS accepted versio

AgroSupportAnalytics: big data recommender system for agricultural farmer complaints in Egypt

    Get PDF
The world’s agricultural needs are growing with the pace of increase in its population. Agricultural farmers play a vital role in our society by helping us in fulfilling our basic food needs. So, we need to support farmers to keep up their great work, even in difficult times such as the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, which causes hard regulations like lockdowns, curfews, and social distancing procedures. In this article, we propose the development of a recommender system that assists in giving advice, support, and solutions for the farmers’ agricultural related complaints (or queries). The proposed system is based on the latent semantic analysis (LSA) approach to find the key semantic features of words used in agricultural complaints and their solutions. Further, it proposes to use the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm with Hadoop to classify the large agriculture dataset over Map/Reduce framework. The results show that a semantic-based classification system and filtering methods can improve the recommender system. Our proposed system outperformed the existing interest recommendation models with an accuracy of 87%
