    Mesh ratios for best-packing and limits of minimal energy configurations

    Get PDF
    For NN-point best-packing configurations ωN\omega_N on a compact metric space (A,ρ)(A,\rho), we obtain estimates for the mesh-separation ratio γ(ωN,A)\gamma(\omega_N,A), which is the quotient of the covering radius of ωN\omega_N relative to AA and the minimum pairwise distance between points in ωN\omega_N. For best-packing configurations ωN\omega_N that arise as limits of minimal Riesz ss-energy configurations as ss\to \infty, we prove that γ(ωN,A)1\gamma(\omega_N,A)\le 1 and this bound can be attained even for the sphere. In the particular case when N=5 on S2S^2 with ρ\rho the Euclidean metric, we prove our main result that among the infinitely many 5-point best-packing configurations there is a unique configuration, namely a square-base pyramid ω5\omega_5^*, that is the limit (as ss\to \infty) of 5-point ss-energy minimizing configurations. Moreover, γ(ω5,S2)=1\gamma(\omega_5^*,S^2)=1

    Organization of Research Activities as a Factor in Increasing the Efficiency of Training International Students in Host Russian Universities

    This article summarizes the practices of organizing research activities that can improve the training of international students in Russian universities. The authors analyzed and identified the correlation between the internal costs of research and development (R&D), the equipment in university research laboratories, and the number of foreigners studying at Russian universities. The authors used the methods of analysis and synthesis and a systematic approach to explore the experience of Russian universities in the training of international students. To identify the impact of internal R&D costs and the equipment of university research laboratories on the number of foreigners studying in Russian universities, the authors applied correlation and regression analysis, which included building a regression equation, calculating the correlation coefficient, the t-test, the coefficient of elasticity, and the coefficient of determination. This research paper revealed a strong correlation between the number of international students in the Russian Federation on the internal R&D costs and the cost of fixed assets and the equipment of Russian universities, which was proven by the calculated correlation coefficients, elasticity coefficients, and determination coefficients. The authors concluded that universities could influence the number of international students. This article proposes some methods for organizing the research activities of international students that increase their academic mobility and form the most relevant scientific and professional competencies. Higher educational institutions of any major can implement these recommendations for managing the research activities of international students. The novelty of this study lies in the fact that the authors performed the correlation and regression analysis and revealed the dependence of the number of international students in the Russian Federation on internal R&D costs, the cost of fixed assets, and the equipment of Russian universities. The authors illustrated the analysis results with the trend predictive values of factorial features and the value of the effective feature estimated according to the regression equations built. Using the calculated MAPE and Forecast Accuracy indicators for these predicted values, the authors concluded that the level of factorial features and the effective feature were predicted with high accuracy. Thus, host Russian universities can increase the number of international students through effective organization of research activities

    Scintillation counter with MRS APD light readout

    Full text link
    START, a high-efficiency and low-noise scintillation detector for ionizing particles, was developed for the purpose of creating a high-granular system for triggering cosmic muons. Scintillation light in START is detected by MRS APDs (Avalanche Photo-Diodes with Metal-Resistance-Semiconductor structure), operated in the Geiger mode, which have 1 mm^2 sensitive areas. START is assembled from a 15 x 15 x 1 cm^3 scintillating plastic plate, two MRS APDs and two pieces of wavelength-shifting optical fiber stacked in circular coils inside the plastic. The front-end electronic card is mounted directly on the detector. Tests with START have confirmed its operational consistency, over 99% efficiency of MIP registration and good homogeneity. START demonstrates a low intrinsic noise of about 10^{-2} Hz. If these detectors are to be mass-produced, the cost of a mosaic array of STARTs is estimated at a moderate level of 2-3 kUSD/m^2.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

    The relativistic impulse approximation for the exclusive electrodisintegration of the deuteron

    Get PDF
    The electrodisintegration of the deuteron in the frame of the Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable kernel of the nucleon-nucleon interaction is considered. This conception keeps the covariance of a description of the process. A comparison of relativistic and nonrelativistic calculations is presented. The factorization of the cross section of the reaction in the impulse approximation is obtained by analytical calculations. It is shown that the photon-neutron interaction plays an important role.Comment: 31 pages, 14 figures, 1 tabl

    Magnetoresistive study of antiferromagnetic--weak ferromagnetic transition in single-crystal La2_{2}CuO4+δ_{4+\delta}

    Full text link
    The resistive measurements were made to study the magnetic field-induced antiferromagnetic (AF) - weak ferromagnetic (WF) transition in La2_2CuO4_4 single-crystal. The magnetic field (DC or pulsed) was applied normally to the CuO2_2 layers. The transition manifested itself in a drastic decrease of the resistance in critical fields of ~5-7 T. The study is the first to display the effect of the AF -WF transition on the conductivity of the La2_2CuO4_4 single-crystal in the parallel - to - CuO2_2 layers direction. The results provide support for the 3-dimensional nature of the hopping conduction of this layered oxide.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, RevTe
