Stability Analysis of Optimal Velocity Model for Traffic and Granular Flow under Open Boundary Condition

We analyzed the stability of the uniform flow solution in the optimal velocity model for traffic and granular flow under the open boundary condition. It was demonstrated that, even within the linearly unstable region, there is a parameter region where the uniform solution is stable against a localized perturbation. We also found an oscillatory solution in the linearly unstable region and its period is not commensurate with the periodicity of the car index space. The oscillatory solution has some features in common with the synchronized flow observed in real traffic.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures. Typos removed. To appear in J. Phys. Soc. Jp

    Near-term Brayton Module Status

    Get PDF
The integration of subsystem components and the testing of a Parabolic Dish Module (PDM) to convert solar energy to grid compatible electric power is examined. System components are selected on a basis of current and projected performance efficiencies, technology readiness, future production probabilities and prices, current cost and availability. Potential for a near-term, 8 kW derivative of the PDM is adjudged to be superior to that of a 20 kW system. The PDM is suited to both grid connected and standalone applications, and it may be fired by solar, fossil, or solar/fossil hydrid means

N*, Lambda*, Sigma* and Xi* Resonances from J/Psi and Psi' Decays

Vector charmonium states J/ΨJ/\Psi and Ψ\Psi' are copiously produced by e+ee^+e^- annihilations at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC). Their decays provide an excellent place for studying excited nucleons and hyperons -- NN^*, Λ\Lambda^*, Σ\Sigma^* and Ξ\Xi^* resonances. The systematic study of these excited nucleons and hyperons can provide us with critical insights into the internal quark structure of baryons.Comment: Postscript file, 3 pages.
