Estimation of Economic Returns to Soil and Water Conservation Research – An Ex Ante Analysis
The economic returns to investment made in soil and water conservation research have been analyzed. Technologies such as conservation furrow, residue incorporation have been found to be economically viable under farmers’ conditions. The study has covered four locations, viz. Agra and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Kota in Rajasthan and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. The economic surplus analysis has revealed that when adopted on a large scale, soil and water conservation technologies generate significant economic surplus as reflected in high NPV and BC ratio. The share of producer surplus has been found to be higher in the total economic surplus generated from technology adoption. Thus, investments in generation and transfer of soil and water conservation technologies have been found be justified in terms of economic benefits. However, various constraints that hamper adoption of these technologies are to be addressed so that the potential benefits could be realized by both farmer and consumer.Agricultural and Food Policy,

Selection mechanisms affect volatility in evolving markets
Financial asset markets are sociotechnical systems whose constituent agents
are subject to evolutionary pressure as unprofitable agents exit the
marketplace and more profitable agents continue to trade assets. Using a
population of evolving zero-intelligence agents and a frequent batch auction
price-discovery mechanism as substrate, we analyze the role played by
evolutionary selection mechanisms in determining macro-observable market
statistics. In particular, we show that selection mechanisms incorporating a
local fitness-proportionate component are associated with high correlation
between a micro, risk-aversion parameter and a commonly-used macro-volatility
statistic, while a purely quantile-based selection mechanism shows
significantly less correlation.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, to appear in proceedings of GECCO 2019 as a full

Understanding the rise and decline of shareholder activism in South Korea: the explanatory advantages of the theory of Modes of Exchange
© 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. Abstract: The extent to which Korea has become a full-fledged neoliberal state has been subject to debate. We argue that the recent rise and fall of shareholder activism in Korea is related to the coexistence of neoliberal and developmental state characteristics. Uncertainty as to ‘the rules of the game’ during this uneven transition has provided the chaebol with an opportunity to defuse the radical potential of shareholder activism. Through an analysis of media reports, this article argues there is a relationship between the rise of fall shareholder activism in Korea and a retreat from neoliberalism. It then discusses advantages of the theory of Modes of Exchange to make sense of these developments

Time Dependence of Brans-Dicke Parameter w for an Expanding Universe
We have studied the time dependence of w for an expanding universe in the
generalised B-D theory and have obtained its explicit dependence on the nature
of matter contained in the universe,in different era.Lastly we discuss how the
observed accelerated expansion of the present universe can be accomodated in
the formalism.Comment: 10 pages,No figure
