Event-by-event fluctuations of the charged particle ratio from non-equilibrium transport theory
The event by event fluctuations of the ratio of positively to negatively
charged hadrons are predicted within the UrQMD model. Corrections for finite
acceptance and finite net charge are derived. These corrections are relevant to
compare experimental data and transport model results to previous predictions.
The calculated fluctuations at RHIC and SPS energies are shown to be compatible
with a hadron gas. Thus, deviating by a factor of 3 from the predictions for a
thermalized quark-gluon plasma.Comment: This paper clarifies the previous predictions of Jeon and Koch

Multiplicity Fluctuations in Limited Segments of Momentum Space in Statistical Models
Multiplicity fluctuations in limited segments of momentum space are
calculated for a classical pion gas within the statistical model. Results for
the grand canonical, canonical, and micro-canonical ensemble are obtained,
compared and discussed. We demonstrate that even in the large volume limit
correlations between macroscopic subsystems due to energy and momentum
conservation persist. Based on the micro-canonical formulation we make
qualitative predictions for the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of
multiplicity fluctuations. The resulting effects are of similar magnitude as
the predicted enhancement due to a phase transition from a quark-gluon plasma
to a hadron gas phase, or due to the critical point of strongly interacting
matter, and qualitatively agree with recently published preliminary
multiplicity fluctuation data of the NA49 SPS experiment.Comment: 23 pages, 4 figure
Particle number fluctuations in nuclear collisions within excluded volume hadron gas model
The multiplicity fluctuations are studied in the van der Waals excluded
volume hadron-resonance gas model. The calculations are done in the grand
canonical ensemble within the Boltzmann statistics approximation. The scaled
variances for positive, negative and all charged hadrons are calculated along
the chemical freeze-out line of nucleus-nucleus collisions at different
collision energies. The multiplicity fluctuations are found to be suppressed in
the van der Waals gas. The numerical calculations are presented for two values
of hard-core hadron radius, fm and 0.5 fm, as well as for the upper
limit of the excluded volume suppression effects.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figure
Beam-Energy and System-Size Dependence of Dynamical Net Charge Fluctuations
We present measurements of net charge fluctuations in collisions at
19.6, 62.4, 130, and 200 GeV, collisions at
62.4, 200 GeV, and collisions at 200
GeV using the net charge dynamical fluctuations measure . The
dynamical fluctuations are non-zero at all energies and exhibit a rather modest
dependence on beam energy. We find that at a given energy and collision system,
net charge dynamical fluctuations violate scaling, but display
approximate scaling. We observe strong dependence of dynamical

Anomalous Multiplicity Fluctuations from Phase Transitions in Heavy Ion Collisions
Event-by-event fluctuations and correlations between particles produced in
relativistic nuclear collisions are studied. The fluctuations in positive,
negative, total and net charge are closely related through correlations. In the
event of a phase transitions to a quark-gluon plasma, fluctuations in total and
net charge can be enhanced and reduced respectively which, however, is very
sensitive to the acceptance and centrality. If the colliding system experiences
strong density fluctuations due, e.g., to droplet formation in a first-order
phase transition, all fluctuations can be enhanced substantially. The
importance of fluctuations and correlations is exemplified by event-by-event
measurement of the multiplicities of 's and charged particles since
these observables should anti-correlate in the presence of co-mover or

International Stock Market Efficiency: A Non-Bayesian Time-Varying Model Approach
This paper develops a non-Bayesian methodology to analyze the time-varying
structure of international linkages and market efficiency in G7 countries. We
consider a non-Bayesian time-varying vector autoregressive (TV-VAR) model, and
apply it to estimate the joint degree of market efficiency in the sense of Fama
(1970, 1991). Our empirical results provide a new perspective that the
international linkages and market efficiency change over time and that their
behaviors correspond well to historical events of the international financial

QCD critical region and higher moments for three flavor models
One of the distinctive feature of the QCD phase diagram is the possible
emergence of a critical endpoint. The critical region around the critical point
and the path dependency of the critical exponents is investigated within
effective chiral (2+1)-flavor models with and without Polyakov-loops. Results
obtained in no-sea mean-field approximations where a divergent vacuum part in
the fermion-loop contribution is neglected, are confronted to the renormalized
ones. Furthermore, the modifications caused by the back-reaction of the matter
fluctuations on the pure Yang-Mills system are discussed. Higher order,
non-Gaussian moments of event-by-event distributions of various particle
multiplicities are enhanced near the critical point and could serve as a probe
to determine its location in the phase diagram. By means of a novel derivative
technique higher order generalized quark-number susceptibilities are calculated
