Experimental Research on the Shear Connectors in Foam Concrete

In order to improve the longitudinal shear resistance between foam concrete and C-Channels, an investigation is carried out on the shear connectors in foam concrete with cold-formed steel double C-Channels embedment. Twenty-four tests have been carried out in two groups. Two types of connectors: flange connectors and web connectors are installed using self-drilling screws for a rapid construction. The experimental results show that they can effectively improve the longitudinal shear-resist capacity of the concrete. After the experiment, the specimens are dismantled for an interior observation. Based on the observation, the form of damage, the failure mechanism was discovered, and the equation of longitudinal shear capacity was developed. It is concluded that the failure involves independent slippage between two C-Channels and the shear connection fractures. Since the composite structure requires sufficient slip between the two materials, these types of shear connectors will have good enhancement for this type of composite structures subjected to dynamic loads

Reconstruction of the ceiling of a gymnasium at the historic school after the catastrophic failure during thermal efficiency improvement

W artykule został przedstawiony przykład historycznego budynku szkolnego, w którym na etapie przygotowywania dokumentacji związanej z poprawą współczynnika efektywności cieplnej, nie przeprowadzono oceny stanu technicznego stalowej konstrukcji przekrycia ponad jednym z jego skrzydeł, w którym na najwyższym piętrze znajduje się sala gimnastyczna. W trakcie prowadzonych prac związanych z poprawą współczynnika efektywności cieplnej wydarzyło się całkowite zapadnięcie sufitu. W tym artykule omówiono tę katastrofę i zostały wyjaśnione jej przyczyny, jak również przedstawiono projektowanie i wykonanie nowego zawieszonego sufitu przy użyciu dotychczas istniejącej stalowej konstrukcji przekrycia. Artykuł został zakończony wnioskami i ogólnymi zaleceniami.An example of the historic school was presented, in which at the stage of preparing documentation regarding thermal efficiency improvement the assessment of technical condition of the steel construction of the covering over one of the wings, where on the highest storey a gymnasium is localised, was not conducted. In the process of the work connected with the thermal efficiency improvement, the total collapse of the ceiling happened. In the paper this disaster was discussed and causes thereof were clarified, as well as a design and execution of the new suspended ceiling using the existing steel covering were introduced. The paper was finished with conclusions and general recommendations

Evaluation of double-branched steel columns in a tram traction network

W artykule przeprowadzono analizę wpływu rozmieszczenia przewiązek na sztywność skrętną słupów. W ocenie konstrukcji rozważanych słupów zwrócono ponadto uwagę na jakość spoin łączących płaskowniki z gałęziami. Natomiast w ocenie stanu technicznego – na miejsca zagrożone korozją, a także uszkodzenia mechaniczne.This article analyses the effect of the positioning of the batten plates on the torsional rigidity of steel columns. In an evaluation of the structural design of the columns, attention is also drawn to the quality of the joints between the flat bars and the branches. An evaluation of the technical condition of the columns draws attention to places at risk of corrosion, as well as mechanical damage

Design errors as a cause of emergency of skylights in industrial building

W artykule przedstawiono wadliwą konstrukcję świetlików podłużnych hali przemysłowej, wykonanych z rur prostokątnych, czego efektem były pękające w nich szyby. Na podstawie analizy pracy statycznej świetlików jako konstrukcji przestrzennych, współpracujących z konstrukcją przekrycia, a także analizy zachowania się węzłów z wykorzystaniem MES, wyjaśniono przyczynę pękania szyb w świetlikach. Artykuł zakończono wnioskami i zaleceniami odnośnie naprawy i poprawnego konstruowania tego typu świetlików.The faulty design of longitudinal skylights made of rectangular hollow sections have been presented as a cause of breaking of glass installed in them. On the base of spatial static analysis of skylights and covering interaction, and also the joints behaviour executed by FEM, the reason for breaking of glass has been explained. Conclussions and recommendations regarding the repair and proper construction of this type of skylights have been given at the end
