Approbation of the Road Infrastructure Friendly Transport Technologies on the Low Bearing Capacity Local Roads
Latvian low volume roads and particular – their pavements shows serious problems in form of cracking, rutting, other deformations and which finally leads to weak serviceability and short lifetime of the road structure. In many cases these problems has been associated with heavy goods transport, overloaded vehicles and their impact. To find the role of heavy loads, and in particular - timber haulage transport, on road pavement deformations and evaluate their prevention possibilities, as well as to investigate the efficiency of freight transport, and establish conditions that will allow to do it, a study is carried out in Riga Technical university in cooperation with Latvian State Forests SC
Diagnostics of Drum Type Wood Chipping Machines
This paper investigates diagnostic methods and proposes modern service technologies for
wood-processing equipment. The aim of this study is to ensure systematic, research-based
wood-processing services and continuous, no-failure operation of facilities. We describe the working
principle of a particular industrial, drum-type wood chipper and discuss the problems that occurred
during operation, including potential excess engine load or construction imperfections. First
experiments show that knife wear progresses even faster than previously expected.
Cutting regime calculations are provided, along with a description of actual improvements and a
comparison of cutting regimes before and after improvements.
The intended result of this research is a monitoring unit with help of a few modifications, can be used on any drum-type wood processing equipment
