The Nuclear Science References (NSR) Database and Web Retrieval System

The Nuclear Science References (NSR) database together with its associated Web interface, is the world's only comprehensive source of easily accessible low- and intermediate-energy nuclear physics bibliographic information for more than 200,000 articles since the beginning of nuclear science. The weekly-updated NSR database provides essential support for nuclear data evaluation, compilation and research activities. The principles of the database and Web application development and maintenance are described. Examples of nuclear structure, reaction and decay applications are specifically included. The complete NSR database is freely available at the websites of the National Nuclear Data Center http://www.nndc.bnl.gov/nsr and the International Atomic Energy Agency http://www-nds.iaea.org/nsr.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure

    Particle-hole state densities with non-equidistant single-particle levels

    Get PDF
The correct use of energy-dependent single-particle level (s.p.l.) densities within particle-hole state densities based on the equidistant spacing model (ESM) is analysed. First, an analytical expression is obtained following the convolution of energy-dependent excited-particle and hole densities. Next, a comparison is made with results of the ESM formula using average s.p.l. densities for the excited particles and holes, respectively. The Fermi-gas model (FGM) s.p.l. densities calculated at the corresponding average excitation energies are used in both cases. The analysis concerns also the density of particle-hole bound states. The pairing correlations are taken into account while the comparison of various effects includes the exact correction for the Pauli exclusion principle. Quantum-mechanical s.p.l. densities and the continuum effect can also match a corresponding FGM formula, suitable for use within the average energy-dependent partial state density in multistep reaction models.Comment: 29 pages, ReVTeX, 11 postscript figures, submitted to Phys.Rev.

Radiative nucleon capture - a dual approach

    No full text
The nucleon radiative capture reactions represent a great interest for possible new ways of production of therapeutic and diagnostic isotopes and also for their deep insight into the details of nuclear reaction process itself. The high-energy gammas originating from the reactions of nucleon radiative capture at incident energies close to or above 10 MeV can be described by either the semi-direct-direct model or within the pre-equilibrium approach. The detailed view on the origin of the optical model potential indicates the origin of its imaginary part. Both approaches are compared together and also to the data
