This work on prevalence of anaemia in pregnancy women at Dawakin Kudu General Hospital, Kano, was carried out purposely to determine the haematocit values, and to see whether it is advisable to prescriber supplement iron and folate in the form of tablets to pregnant women. Blood samples were collected from 100 percent women attending the hospital. The blood sampes were analyzed. Questionnaires were also used, purposely to reinforce the results obtained from haematocrit method. The haematocrit values obtained show that pregnant women were not affected by previous birth, level of education to some extent and age group of pregnant women. The mean PVC falls within 25.25% - 32.75% of the total number observed. The total mean PVC is 27.02%. Keywords: Haematocrit, blood, anaemia, pregnant women

Analysis of some aspects of physic chemical parameters of River Hadejia was conducted from July 2012 to June 2013. The parameters measured were Temperature, Oxygen concentrated, Ph, Total dissolved solutes (TDS), Transparency and conductivity. The data were analyzed. Tables 1 – 7, most of the parameters measured were within the limits required for fish production. Stations A, B and C sampled revealed that there was a negative correlation between temperature and PH in all the sites. The same relationship obtained between temperature and conductivity for Stations A, B and C. Temperature and total dissolved solids (TDS) the relationship was insignificant (P>0.05). the relationship between PH and conductivity for stations A, B and C was positive but insignificant (P>0.05). Keywords: Temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), Transparency, PH, Conductivity

The study investigated the extent of involvement of planning and coordination practices for conflict management in college of education libraries in south-east and south-south Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was employed in the study while two research questions were answered. The population and sample of 528 members of colleges of education library staff in South East and South-South, Nigeria was used for the study using a non-randomized purposive sampling method. A structured questionnaire titled Planning and Coordination Practices for Conflict Management in Libraries Questionnaire (PCPCMLQ) was used for the study. The instrument was face and content validated through consultation with three Veteran Researchers in Library and Information Science, Educational Psychology and Measurement and Evaluation from University of Nigeria Nsukka and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation was used to obtain a reliability co-efficient, r = 0.88, which confirmed the instrument is consistent in its measurement. Mean, , and Standard deviation, SD. The results revealed among others that, to a high extent, coordination is carried out as a conflict management practice to enhance service delivery in college of education libraries. It was concluded that effectively harnessing the potentials of planning and coordination practices for conflict management will no doubt lead to enhanced service delivery in college libraries. The study recommended for adequate planning and coordination practices for conflict management that will enhance service delivery in college of education libraries in South-East and South-South, Nigeria

This work focused on Information literacy skills and awareness of electronic information resources as influencing factors of their use by postgraduate students in two Universities in South-West Nigeria. The need for this study was prompted after observing that most postgraduate students in Nigerian Universities have poor information literacy skills and awareness of electronic information resources which could be due to inadequate end user training, poor search skills, mass irrelevant information, slow internet connectivity, the need to filter the results from the search of information, failure to find information, inaccessibility of some information sources etc. This therefore raises a question of what could be done to assist postgraduate students with these challenges. The population of this study was the postgraduate students of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State and the Lagos State University, Ojo Lagos State. The descriptive survey method was used for this study. Five research questions were used and tested on a sample size of 407 that represented the population of postgraduate students of the University of Ibadan and 117 that represented the population of postgraduate students of the Lagos state University. The data collection instrument that was used for the conduct of this study was the questionnaire. Frequency counts and simple percentages were used to analyze the data. The findings of this study revealed that there was high rate of information literacy skills and awareness of electronic information resources, EIR among the postgraduate students of the University of Ibadan and the Lagos State University to achieve their various academic goals. Power outage was ranked the highest problem encountered by the respondents of the two universities under study in the use of Electronic Information Resources, EIR for their various academic pursuits. Because of the mentioned problems, necessary measures should be taken as recommended by the researcher in the concluding part of this research work

Fuzzy Hybrid Approach for Ranking and Selecting Services in Cloud-based Marketplaces

    Get PDF
Background and Objective: The popularity cloud computing has led to the proliferation of services that are commoditized and traded on cloud e-marketplaces. Besides, user’s cloud service requirements-QoS preferences and aspiration are often shrouded in vagueness and subjectivity. Therefore, cloud service selection can be overwhelming and lead to service choice overload. Existing cloud service selection approaches rarely provide mechanisms to elicit both the QoS preferences and aspirations, but rather considers either of them. This study aimed to design fuzzy-based model for service selection in e-market places that articulates both QoS preferences and aspirations. Materials and Methods: This model comprised a fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for deriving relative priority weights of QoS attributes, a fuzzy decision-making method for obtaining user’s QoS aspiration values and a fuzzy multi-objective optimization module for evaluating the services with respect to user requirements. A simulated experiment was conduct using publicly QoS dataset and ranking accuracy produced by the proposed approach compared to existing methods was measured using Normalize Discounted Cumulative Gain (NCDG) metric. Results: The descriptive and inferential analyses of the ranking results from both versions of the proposed approach produce better accuracy results based on the NCDG metric and were in all cases closer to the benchmark metric than the other two existing methods used in this simulation. Conclusion: Results from current simulation experiment showed that the ranking accuracy of this model is not compromised by subjective QoS information from users and this approach is applicable use the subjective QoS requirements of user’s in ranking services in the cloud e-marketplaces

Factors Affecting Computer Science Research Productivity and Impact in Nigeria: A Bibliometric Evidence

    Get PDF
Computer science is a burgeoning research field and has the potential to accelerate the rate of industrialisation and subsequently, economic development. Using bibliometric data obtained from Scopus, this study employed a 15-year bibliometric analysis to highlight Nigeria’s productivity and impact trends in the computer science research landscape. Our findings are summarised as follows: First, Nigeria’s computer science research contribution and citations are meager in comparison to the global output. Secondly, international collaboration is generally weak as most collaborations are national in scope. Third, Nigeria’s computer science-related research is published in low-quality outlets, as Scopus has discontinued the indexing of most of the outlets. Although the publication growth trend is encouraging, the volume and impact of computer science-related research can improve significantly with the conduct of more quality researches that facilitated by strong international collaborations, and published in very high-quality outlets
