    The Effect of Paired-story-telling Technique on the Speaking Abiliity of the Second Year Students of SMP N 8 Pekanbaru

    The main objective of this study was to find out the effect of Paired-Story-Telling technique on the speaking ability of the second year students of SMP N 8 pekanbaru. This study was an experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The population of this research was the second year students of SMP N 8 pekanbaru. In this research, a single group was selected to be a sample by using cluster random sampling. The sample that has been choosen was class VIII.8 consisting of 39 students. a speakingl test was used to get the score of the students before and after taught by using Paired-Story-Telling technique. After all the data were collected, the writer calculated and analyzed them by using Microsoft excel 2010 and T-test formula. It was found that t-test score was 13.30 while t-table was 2.024. Since t-test was higher than t-table, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of Paired-Story-Telling technique on the students' speaking ability of the second year students of SMP N 8 Pekanbaru that can be seen from the t-test result and the improvement of the students' scores in post-test

    Correlation Between Self-efficacy And The Listening Comprehension Of The Eighth Semester Students Of English Study Program Fkip-ur

    This correlational research is aimed to find out whether there is a significant correlation between self-efficacy and the listening comprehension of the eighth semester students of English Study Program FKIP-UR. The sample was 35 students selected through purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this research were the questionnaire on self-efficacy and the documentation of the students' TOEFL listening comprehension score provided by the Language Centre of Universitas Riau. The research findings revealed that the self-efficacy of the eighth semester students of English Study Program FKIP-UR was at the average level (180.60), and their listening comprehension was at the mediocre level (49.83). The cross tabulation analysis showed that the students who had higher self-efficacy had a high tendency to have better listening comprehension score level. Based on Pearson correlation analysis, it was obtained that the correlation coefficient between students' self-efficacy and the listening comprehension was 0.786 with the Sig. value=0.00. Hence, it could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between self-efficacy and the listening comprehension of the eighth semester students of English Study Program FKIP-UR. The interpretation of the correlation coefficient showed that there was a strong positive correlation between both variables. As a consequence, the null hypothesis was rejected

    The Effect of Round Table Technique on the Writing Ability in Recount Text of the Second Year Students of SMPN 1 Kubu

    The objective of this research is to find out whether there is an effect of Round Table Technique on the students' writing ability in recount text of SMPN 1 Kubu. This research was applied by using one-group-pretest-posttest design. In conducting this research, a single group was selected to be a sample by using Cluster Random Sampling. There are 33 students as the sample. In order to know the difference between the pre-test and the post-test and to analyse the hypothesis, t-test formula was used. After analysing the data, the writer found that t-obs score was 11.738 while the value of t-table is 2.037. Since t-obs (11.738) was higher than t-table (2.037), it can be concluded that null hypothesis was rejected. It means that there is a significant effect of Round Table Technique on the students' writing ability at SMPN 1 Kubu in writing recount text. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that teachers use Round Table Technique to help the students to generate their ideas in writing a recount text

    A Descriptive Study Of Code Mixing Form In Kaskus Online Forum

    This research objective is to find out the form of code mixing in Kaskus online forum. The research data were collected in february 2017. The subject of this research was the user of Kaskus online forum in a thread entitiles “Cara Asik to Improve Your English”. The data were collected through online report. The subject consisted of 16 users with 48 posts, and 64 sentences. The research found out that the all of code mixing forms exist in Kaskus and several purposes of code mixing are found in this research. As a conclusion, the use of insertion of words is more dominant than other insertion in the research and Kaskus users are not using the code mixing for their incompetence

    A Study on the Ability of the Third Year Students of English Study Program Fkip Ur in Writing Sequence of Events of Reed's Movie Yes Man

    The purpose of this study is to find out the third year students' ability of English Study Program in writing sequence of events of Yes Man movie. This research focus on the accuracy in grammar, vocabulary mastery, the mechanics, arrange the form and style and ease of communication (fluency) based on the movie. Data were collected using writing test, particularly writing the sequence of events the movie. The research finding are as follows: firstly, the ability of the students based on three raters in writing plot of movie is 70.37 which is in Average to Good level. Second, the students' average score based on three raters for Grammar aspect is 3.49, the average score for Mechanics is 3.54, in Vocabulary aspect the average score is 3.66, the students' average score for Form is 3.31 and the last average score is Fluency, which is 3.39. The highest score obtained by the students is in Vocabulary aspect and the lowest score is in Form aspect

    Using Digital Storytelling-photostory Computer Application to Increase the Speaking Ability of the First Year Students of Smk Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru

    The aim of this research is to improve the speaking ability of the first year students by using Digital Storytelling-Photostory Computer Application in comprehending the descriptive texts. This is an experimental research with one pre-post test design. The population of the research is the first year students of SMK Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru with 21 samples. To collect the data, the writer administered the pre test, treatments, and the post test at end of the session. In analyzing the data, the t- test formula was used to determine whether the technique applied can significantly increase the students' speaking ability. From the data collected, it can be seen that the average score of pre test is 64.6. Upon the implementation of digital storytelling, there is a significant increase on students' scores. It can be seen from the result of post-test. The average score of the post-test is 76.8. The score also reveals that the students have achieved the minimum mastery criteria required by the school. To sum up, digital storytelling-photostory computer application has significantly increase the speaking ability of the first year students of SMK Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru

    Efek dari Menggunakan Teknik Mind Mapping pada Kemampuan Siswa Kelas Satu SMA Negeri 12 Pekanbaru dalam Menulis Teks Deskriptif

    This pre-experimental design aimed to find out the effect of mind mapping technique in writing descriptive texts. This pre-experimental research was used one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this research was the first year students of SMA Negeri 12 Pekanbaru. The partcipants were 39 students. The reasons for conducting this research because of several problems: the students faced some problem in terms of vocabulary and grammar. Furthermore, the students have difficulties to develop their ideas in writing descriptive text. The steps of research procedure are conducting pre-test, treatment, post-test and data analysis. The data were assessed by the three raters and analyzed by using t-test formula. The data analysis showed that the implementation of mind mapping technique as the teaching technique was effective to improve students' ability in writing descriptive texts. The finding also proved that in the pre-test students' average score was only 58.72 and it improved to 76.07 in the post-test. In addition, applying mind mapping as a teaching technique in English language teaching and learning could also improve students' ability to write English in terms of grammar, vocabulary, mechanic, organization, and fluency

    The Use of Think-pair-share Technique to Improve the Writing Ability of the Students of SMA Negeri 03 Pekanbaru in Recount Text

    The aimof this research was to know whether or not Think-Pair-Share technique could improve students' ability in writing recount texts and how it could improve the ability. Classroom action research was conducted in two cycles to 34 students of X-2Class of SMAN 03 Pekanbaru as the participant of this research. The data were collected through written test, observation sheet, and field note. This research findings found that Think-Pair-Share technique could improve the students' ability in writing recount texts. Students' mean score improved from 54.46 in pre-test to 65.14 in post-test 1, and to 77.64 in post-test 2. It is in line with the activeness of students that improved from 46.08% in cycle 1 to 86.26% in cycle 2. Think-Pair-Share technique helped students in writing the recount texts. It analyzes each part of generic structure of recount text. Think-Pair-Share strategy could motivate the students during teaching and learning process. This research recommended that teachers to use Think-Pair-Share to find out the different effect after using this cooperative learning technique than a conventional technique
