Atraumatic Ruptured Giant Renal Tumor

Massive hemoperitoneum due to spontaneous rupture of renal cell carcinoma is a rare presentation during emergency laparotomy. A 60-year-old female patient presented with severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and abdominal distension. A massive hemoperitoneum secondary to ruptured left kidney tumor was found during laparotomy. Histology confirmed a papillary renal cell carcinoma. Ruptured renal cell carcinoma can be a cause of bleeding into the retroperitoneum space. Emergency sonography and laparotomy are advocated for its management. BALANCED SCORECARD (BSC) "CAUSE-AND-EFFECT" ANALYSIS: A CASE STUDY IN A FUEL DISTRIBUTOR COMPANY

The main objective of this work is to verify whether there is a cause-and-effect relationship, evidenced in the literature, among the variables belonging to the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) applied in a fuel distributor company. The importance of this research is that the alignment of these relationships is considered one of the main conditions for achieving the organization's mission. Therefore, in order to achieve this objective, Pearson's correlation was used to verify the correlations between the variables studied and the regression technique was used in order to verify the link of causality between the perspectives adopted in the BSC, in the exercise of 2016 to 2017, through statistical inferences. Statistically, there was a weak or moderate cause-and-effect relationship between the BSC's strategic objectives in the period studied, and it may be listed as reasons that would justify this fragile relationship, as was also evidenced in studies by Barros and Wanderley (2016) , the lack of customization of the BSC at the moment of its implementation, the difficulty of the board to disassociate from the financial information present in the financial statements for the decision making and the own corporate structure of the investigated company, which is backed by the family management model

The influence of volunteer activity at educational venues on participants’ consciousness: a case study of the Suma Aqualife Park KOBE

水族館をはじめとした博物館施設において，社会教育普及活動の効果を期待しボランティアを活用する動きが盛んになってきた。博物館におけるボランティア活動には，ボランティア組織や参加者が来館者に対する社会教育の一端を担うという側面だけでなく，ボランティア活動が活動者自身の学習の場として機能している，という側面もある。本研究では，ボランティア活動の参加者に対する教育的な側面に注目し，博物館においてボランティア活動に参加することが，参加者自身の意識にどのような影響を与えるのかを調査した。調査対象は神戸市立須磨海浜水族園教育ボランティアと職員で，アンケート調査と関係者からの聞き取り調査を行った。その結果，水族館におけるボランティア活動に参加することは，参加者の海や海の生物への愛着，環境意識，社会的なつながりに関する意識に影響を与えることが明らかになった。Volunteer activities at museums are becoming increasingly popular as a form of social education. These activities are an opportunity to learn communication skills and gain academic knowledge. They also provide an opportunity for social education for visitors. This study examined how volunteer activities at educational venues affect participants’ consciousness of aquatic life. Volunteers and curators at the Suma Aqualife Park KOBE were surveyed via questionnaires and interviews. These surveys clarified that volunteer activities in Suma Aqualife Park KOBE influence the participants’ sense of attachment to the sea and to aquatic species, their environmental awareness, and their connection with society. The findings demonstrate that volunteer activities at educational venues have educational effects on the participants

On real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces and holomorphic webs

We investigate holomorphic webs tangent to real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces on compact complex surfaces. Under certain conditions, we prove that a holomorphic web tangent to a real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurface admits a multiple-valued meromorphic first integral. We also prove that the Levi foliation of a Levi-flat hypersurface induced by an irreducible real-analytic curve in the Grassmannian $G(n+1,n)$ extends to an algebraic web on the complex projective space.Comment: 19 page

The ability to appropriately distinguish throws for different target positions

Repeated and accurate throwing of an object to a target position is a special human motor skill. It is particularly important to understand accuracy, which has received less attention than speed due to difficulties in measurement. Accuracy has been studied in terms of reducing errors against a single target, but also in terms of distinguishing appropriate throws for targets in different positions. In this study, this ability was investigated by evaluating the two-dimensional distributions of the pitch locations of 15 pitches to three target positions in university students with and without baseball experience. The center, major and minor axis length, major and minor axis ratio, slope, area, and percentage of overlapping area of the 95% confidence ellipse were compared between target positions and participants using a two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). The center and area of the ellipse indicate the mean and variability of the error, respectively. The lengths of the major axes correspond to the variability of the release timing, and the minor axes correspond to the variability of the release point in space. Therefore, the ratio of the major and minor axes indicates how the variability of the pitching motion is controlled. The slope of the ellipse corresponds to the throwing arm's trajectory, and the percentage of overlap area means the ability to distinguish throws at different target positions. The result showed a main effect of participants on all indices except the center of the ellipse. This indicates that participants can generally distinguish throws by target positions regardless of their baseball experience, although participants with baseball experience may naturally reduce variability. Furthermore, participants with baseball experience demonstrated a decrease variability in release timing, which is a primary contributor to the pitch location variability, relative to the spatial variability of the pitching movements. This reduction in timing variability may be attributed to advanced motor control mechanisms

Footedness for scratching itchy eyes in rodents

The neural bases of itchy eye transmission remain unclear compared with those involved in body itch. Here, we show in rodents that the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR) of the trigeminal sensory system is involved in the transmission of itchy eyes. Interestingly, we further demonstrate a difference in scratching behaviour between the left and right hindfeet in rodents; histamine instillation into the conjunctival sac of both eyes revealed right-foot biased laterality in the scratching movements. Unilateral histamine instillation specifically induced neural activation in the ipsilateral sensory pathway, with no significant difference between the activations following left- and right-eye instillations. Thus, the behavioural laterality is presumably due to right-foot preference in rodents. Genetically modified rats with specific depletion of Grpr-expressing neurons in the trigeminal sensory nucleus caudalis of the medulla oblongata exhibited fewer and shorter histamine-induced scratching movements than controls and eliminated the footedness. These results taken together indicate that the Grp-expressing neurons are required for the transmission of itch sensation from the eyes, but that foot preference is generated centrally. These findings could open up a new field of research on the mechanisms of the laterality in vertebrates and also offer new potential therapeutic approaches to refractory pruritic eye disorders
