Effects on Users of the Seating Element Types in Cafes/Restaurants

    No full text
In this study, the impact of different seating unit types on subjects' perceptional evaluation of cafe/restaurant environments has been examined. The scopes for assessment were being ergonomic, privacy and perceptual preferences. The data for this research were obtained from students' ratings of digital pictures for two hypothetical cafes/restaurants. These spaces were prepared exactly the same. The only differences were that one space was furnished with chairs and the other was furnished with booths. Each dining environment was tested by using bipolar scales. Results indicated that cafes/restaurants furnished with booths were considered to be more ergonomic, private, comfortable and less crowded than the cafes/restaurants furnished with chairs. Furthermore, gender differences in evaluation were also examined. Due to the gender differences, findings showed that female subjects perceived cafes/restaurants furnished with booths more positively than male subjects. Additionally, their preferences for seating locations in cafes/restaurants were also different

WOS: 000443872700003PURPOSE: In this study, results of surgery for patients with mediastinal cystic pathology who were treated by the utilization of robotic surgery system were analyzed. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospectively collected data of 296 patients on whom robotic surgery system was used between October 2011 and June 2017 were retrospectively examined. Of these patients, 9 (3%) patients who were operated due to cystic pathologies of mediastinum were included in this study. Age, gender, docking, and console times of the robot, pathology results, length of hospital stay, anatomic localization of the lesions, blood transfusion requirement, conversion to open surgery, mortality, and morbidity rates were recorded. RESULTS: Five patients were male and 4 were female, and the mean age was 45.5 +/- 21.2 years. The lesion was localized in anterior mediastinum in two patients, middle mediastinum in four patients, and in posterior mediastinum in three patients. Six patients underwent surgery with the diagnosis of bronchogenic cyst, one patient underwent surgery with the diagnosis of the pericardial cyst, and two patients underwent surgery with the diagnosis of the thymic cyst. The mean length of hospital stay was 3.3 +/- 1.5 days. The median console time was 45 min (30-110 min) and the median docking time was 20 min (10-40 min). CONCLUSION: We consider that, with technical advantages provided to the surgeon in mediastinal surgery, robotic technology can be preferred in cystic pathologies of the mediastinum localized in areas that may pose challenges in dissection

Aim: The incidence of adenocarcinoma among lung cancer patients has increased in recent years. We identified the factors affecting lymph node status in patients with primary lung adenocarcinoma who underwent minimally-invasive anatomic resection. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of primary lung adenocarcinoma patients who underwent minimally-invasive anatomic lung resections and mediastinal lymph node dissection between January 2012 and December 2017. We evaluated lymph node positivity and nodal status in each T and histologic subgroup, tumoral prognostic characteristics, minimally-invasive surgical methods and resection type. Results: Of 473 patients who underwent anatomic resection for lung cancer between January 2012 and December 2017, 274 underwent minimally-invasive anatomic lung resections for primary lung cancer, 158 adenocarcinoma patients were analyzed in this study. Nodal status and number of positive lymph nodes were similar in the stages T1, T2, T3. Lymphovascular invasion (n : 78) and micropapillary predominance tended to be significant predisposing factors for lymph node metastasis. Mean dissected lymph node number was significantly higher in patients who underwent Robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery compared to Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (P < 0.05), and in those who underwent lobectomy compared to segmentectomy (P < 0.05).Conclusion: We were unable to demonstrate a relationship between T stage and N status. Factors contributing to unexpected N positivity were tumor characteristics that could not be identified in the preoperative period. We recommend performing systematic mediastinal lymph node dissection regardless of the size and histopathologic type of adenocarcinoma. In our study, robotic surgery and lobectomy operation showed superiority in dissecting more lymph nodes

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to ascertain the effect of age, gender and educational level on customer evaluations of the design characteristics of fitting rooms/dressing rooms, such as size, levels of illumination, number of hangers, materials and opening types of doors in retail clothing stores. In the light of these results, the study aims to increase the satisfaction of the customers in retail stores. Design/methodology/approach – These evaluations were analysed according to the demographic characteristics of consumers, such as age, gender and educational level. Since activities in fitting rooms require a certain level of privacy, the features that affected privacy were also considered in this study. The analysis was carried out with research designed for users of fitting rooms in Ankara, Turkey. Findings – Results indicated that demographic characteristics of the customers affected their evaluation of fitting rooms. The statistically significant results between evaluations of customers and their demographic backgrounds were determined. In these analyses, problems emerged due to usage of fitting rooms. Most of the problems complained about were an insufficient number of hangers, lack of mirrors, lack of sitting units, small-sized rooms and poorly illuminated rooms. Moreover, the results showed that customers preferred a totally closed panel door for privacy. Originality/value – This paper reveals a significant relationship between design characteristics of fitting rooms and customer evaluations of fitting rooms. The results of the study suggest that retailers and designers may be able to easily make stores more attractive for customers when installing fitting rooms

WOS: 000431767800004OBJECTIVE: In the present study, the outcomes and technical details of patients who underwent surgical resection for benign schwannoma with the da Vinci robotic system are presented. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the scope of our robotic surgery program, 26 (8.7%) patients out of 296 patients were operated using the da Vinci robotic system. Five patients (19.2%) who underwent surgery of benign schwannoma were included in the study. Prospectively, collected data of these patients were retrospectively evaluated. Age, gender, robot docking and console times, length of hospital stay, anatomic localizations of the lesions, pathology results, blood infusion needs, and mortality and morbidity rates of the patients were recorded. RESULTS: All patients were male, and the mean age was 43.2 +/- 12.1 years. The mean length of hospital stay was 3 +/- 0.9 days. The mean console time was 27.6 +/- 18.8 min, and the mean docking time was 12 +/- 4 min. None of the patients received blood transfusion. Utility incision was made in only one patient. Postoperative ptosis was detected in two patients with tumors where located in the apical region, and no mortality occurred. CONCLUSION: Due to the advantages of robotic surgery to the surgeon, patients with schwannoma in extreme locations that would pose challenges in dissection could be operated with da Vinci system

kaba, erkan/0000-0002-0793-8152WOS: 000492824600017PubMed: 32082920Background: This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of lobectomy operations without using a stapler for bronchial closure. Methods: Between December 2014 and August 2018, a total of 108 patients (72 males, 36 females; mean age 62.1 +/- 9.8 years; range, 19 to 83 years) with primary lung cancer who underwent lobar resection with robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery were included in this study. Primary bronchial closure (n=7) and sleeve anastomosis (n=9) were performed in some cases. These 16 patients were compared with other lobectomy cases (n=92) who had bronchial stapling for bronchial closure. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the mean duration of operation, amount of intraoperative bleeding, length of postoperative stay in the hospital, and morbidity and readmission rates between the two groups (p=0.3, p=0.5, p=0.06, p=0.4, and p=0.63, respectively). No bronchial fistula developed in any of the patients. Conclusion: Primary bronchial closure and sleeve anastomosis can be safely performed with robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery without conversion to thoracotomy, or a larger assistance incision with a similar success rate of the stapled bronchus
