Break-down of the single-active-electron approximation for one-photon ionization of the B 1Σu+^1\Sigma_u^+ state of H2_2 exposed to intense laser fields

Ionization, excitation, and de-excitation to the ground state is studied theoretically for the first excited singlet state B $^1\Sigma_u^+$ of H$_2$ exposed to intense laser fields with photon energies in between about 3 eV and 13 eV. A parallel orientation of a linear polarized laser and the molecular axis is considered. Within the dipole and the fixed-nuclei approximations the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation describing the electronic motion is solved in full dimensionality and compared to simpler models. A dramatic break-down of the single-active-electron approximation is found and explained to be due to the inadequate description of the final continuum states.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

Prevalence of malnutrition and intestinal parasites in preschool slum children in Lucknow

Objective: To assess the point prevalence of intestinal parasites and their association with nutritional parameters. Setting: Anganwadi centers under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in Lucknow, North India. Design: Cross-sectional survey. Methods: By random draw, 32 out of 153 Anganwadi centers were selected. All eligible subjects registered with the Anganwadi worker were enrolled. These were 1061 children (48.3% girls and 51.7% boys) between the ages of 1.5 to 3.5 years. Results: Of these, 67.6% were underweight (weight for age <- 2 SD), 62.8% were stunted (height for age <-2 SD) and 26.5% were wasted (weight for height <-2 SD). Parasites were detected in 17.5% (95% CI 15.3%-19.9%) children by a single direct fecal smear examination. Of these, Ascaris lumbricoides was found in 124 (68.1%) and Giardia lamblia in 60 (32.9%). There was no association between weight or height and parasite positivity. The mean hemoglobin levels for children who were smear positive versus smear negative for ascaris or giardia were 9.1 g/dl and 9.6 g/dl, respectively (p<0.0001). Conclusion: In the urban slums the point prevalence of intestinal parasites is 17.5% in the preschool children. Malnutrition and low hemoglobin levels are also widely prevalent. Urgent remedial steps are needed on community basis to improve their nutritional status and control parasitic infestation

Carrier Transport in Magnesium Diboride: Role of Nano-inclusions

Anisotropic-gap and two-band effects smear out the superconducting transition (Tc) in literature reported thermal conductivity of MgB2, where large electronic contributions also suppress anomaly-manifestation in their negligible phononic-parts. Present thermal transport results on scarcely explored specimens featuring nano-inclusions exhibit a small but clear Tc-signature, traced to relatively appreciable phononic conduction, and its dominant electronic-scattering. The self-formed MgO as extended defects strongly scatter the charge carriers and minutely the phonons with their longer-mean-free-path near Tc. Conversely, near room temperature, the shorter-dominant-wavelength phonon's transport is hugely affected by these nanoparticles, undergoing ballistic to diffusive crossover and eventually entering the Ioffe-Regel mobility threshold regime.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, 28 reference

Nadis in Tantric Literature

The term Nadi is the most controversial term in the field of Ayurveda & Yoga. It is not an easy subject & cannot be understood by studying Ayurveda texts. To get into the depth it is necessary to consult texts on Nervous system, Psychology, Ayurveda, Tantra, Acupuncture in addition to Yoga texts. Nadi means stream in Rig-veda. It is very important to understand this term “Stream” on which the whole concept of Nadi stands. In other words we can say that, any channel through which energy flows is Nadi. Yogis did least anatomical correlations on this subject as this was known to all at that time as these are the principle path or tract through which consciousness travels or it was not much necessary for them. The conducting pathways are quoted by Tantric as well as Yogic Gurus, but they give this in a different way. Since they are made up of subtle matter they cannot be seen by naked eyes & we cannot make any test at this level to show scientifically these are those nerves which we met when we do the dissection of Human body. So the quest of “Nerves” in the physical body can be clearly identified, but those Nadis or Nerves in the astral body is yet to be identified

Spin-lattice coupling mediated giant magnetodielectricity across the spin reorientation in Ca2FeCoO5

The structural, phonon, magnetic, dielectric, and magneto dielectric responses of the pure bulk Brownmillerite compound Ca2FeCoO5 are reported. This compound showed giant magneto dielectric response (10%-24%) induced by strong spin-lattice coupling across its spin reorientation transition (150-250 K). The role of two Debye temperatures pertaining to differently coordinated sites in the dielectric relaxations is established. The positive giant magneto-dielectricity is shown to be a direct consequence of the modulations in the lattice degrees of freedom through applied external field across the spin reorientation transition. Our study illustrates novel control of magneto-dielectricity by tuning the spin reorientation transition in a material that possess strong spin lattice coupling.Comment: 7 pages, 12 figure
