    Ring-Opening 1,3-Aminochalcogenation of Donor-Acceptor Cyclopropanes: A Three-Component Approach

    Get PDF
A 1,3-aminothiolation was realized by reacting 2-substituted cyclopropane 1,1-dicarboxylates with sulfonamides and N-(arylthio)succinimides. Under Sn(OTf)2 catalysis the transformation proceeded smoothly to the corresponding ring-opened products bearing the sulfonamide in the 1-position next to the donor and the arylthio residue in the 3-position next to the acceptor. The procedure was extended to the corresponding selenium analogues by employing N-(phenylseleno)succinimides as an electrophilic selenium source

Ferrocenyl-substituted tetrahydrothiophenes via formal [3 + 2]-cycloaddition reactions of ferrocenyl thioketones with donor-acceptor cyclopropanes

Ferrocenyl thioketones reacted with donor-acceptor cyclopropanes in dichloromethane at room temperature in the presence of catalytic amounts of Sc(OTf)3 yielding tetrahydrothiophene derivatives, products of formal [3 + 2]-cycloaddition reactions, in moderate to high yields. In all studied cases, dimethyl 2-arylcyclopropane dicarboxylates reacted with the corresponding aryl ferrocenyl thioketones in a completely diastereoselective manner to form single products in which (C-2)-Ar and (C-5)-ferrocenyl groups were oriented in a cis-fashion. In contrast, the same cyclopropanes underwent reaction with alkyl ferrocenyl thioketones to form nearly equal amounts of both diastereoisomeric tetrahydrothiophenes. A low selectivity was also observed in the reaction of a 2-phthalimide-derived cyclopropane with ferrocenyl phenyl thioketone

(4 + 3)-Cycloaddition of Donor-Acceptor Cyclopropanes with Thiochalcones: A Diastereoselective Access to Tetrahydrothiepines

    Get PDF
A general approach is described for the formation of tetrahydrothiepines using donor-acceptor cyclopropanes. Thiochalcones, functioning as sulfur-containing four-atom building blocks, were reacted in a Lewis acid catalyzed formal (4 + 3)-cycloaddition reaction with donor-acceptor cyclopropanes as three-atom building blocks. Under mild conditions various tetrahydrothiepines were synthesized in good yields in a stereospecific reaction with high functional group tolerance

Clinical Camel: An Open Expert-Level Medical Language Model with Dialogue-Based Knowledge Encoding

We present Clinical Camel, an open large language model (LLM) explicitly tailored for clinical research. Fine-tuned from LLaMA-2 using QLoRA, Clinical Camel achieves state-of-the-art performance across medical benchmarks among openly available medical LLMs. Leveraging efficient single-GPU training, Clinical Camel surpasses GPT-3.5 in five-shot evaluations on all assessed benchmarks, including 64.3% on the USMLE Sample Exam (compared to 58.5% for GPT-3.5), 77.9% on PubMedQA (compared to 60.2%), 60.7% on MedQA (compared to 53.6%), and 54.2% on MedMCQA (compared to 51.0%). In addition to these benchmarks, Clinical Camel demonstrates its broader capabilities, such as synthesizing plausible clinical notes. This work introduces dialogue-based knowledge encoding, a novel method to synthesize conversational data from dense medical texts. While benchmark results are encouraging, extensive and rigorous human evaluation across diverse clinical scenarios is imperative to ascertain safety before implementation. By openly sharing Clinical Camel, we hope to foster transparent and collaborative research, working towards the safe integration of LLMs within the healthcare domain. Significant challenges concerning reliability, bias, and the potential for outdated knowledge persist. Nonetheless, the transparency provided by an open approach reinforces the scientific rigor essential for future clinical applications.Comment: for model weights, see https://huggingface.co/wanglab

New Constraints on Dispersive Form Factor Parameterizations from the Timelike Region

    Get PDF
We generalize a recent model-independent form factor parameterization derived from rigorous dispersion relations to include constraints from data in the timelike region. These constraints dictate the convergence properties of the parameterization and appear as sum rules on the parameters. We further develop a new parameterization that takes into account finiteness and asymptotic conditions on the form factor, and use it to fit to the elastic \pi electromagnetic form factor. We find that the existing world sample of timelike data gives only loose bounds on the form factor in the spacelike region, but explain how the acquisition of additional timelike data or fits to other form factors are expected to give much better results. The same parameterization is seen to fit spacelike data extremely well.Comment: 24 pages, latex (revtex), 3 eps figure

Spin structure and longitudinal polarization of hyperon in e+e- annihilation at high energies

    Get PDF
Longitudinal polarizations of different kinds of hyperons produced in e+e- annihilation at LEP I and LEP II energies in different event samples are calculated using two different pictures for the spin structure of hyperon: that drawn from polarized deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering data or that using SU(6) symmetric wave functions. The result shows that measurements of such polarizations should provide useful information to the question of which picture is more suitable in describing the spin effects in the fragmentation processes.Comment: 26 pages with 10 figures.

Spin alignment of vector meson in e+e- annihilation at Z0 pole

    Get PDF
We calculate the spin density matrix of the vector meson produced in e+e- annihilation at Z^0 pole. We show that the data imply a significant polarization for the antiquark which is created in the fragmentation process of the polarized initial quark and combines with the fragmenting quark to form the vector meson. The direction of polarization is opposite to that of the fragmenting quark and the magnitude is of the order of 0.5. A qualitative explanation of this result based on the LUND string fragmentation model is given.Comment: 15 pages, 2 fgiures; submitted to Phys. Rev.
