Les territoires incertains du sport

La progression des pratiques sportives amène à réfléchir aux différentes formes territoriales qu'elles prennent dans la société. Plusieurs étapes se sont succédé. La première a favorisé la constitution de régions sportives fondées sur l'édification d'équipements spécifiques permettant l'organisation de la pratique et du spectacle sportif. La seconde, qui se renforce depuis les années 1960, intéresse les grands espaces de la nature où les sportifs recherchent de nouveaux lieux d'exercices. Les activités plus individuelles et aléatoires correspondent à une relative désinstitutionnalisation des loisirs sportifs où les processus d'individuation, d'hybridation et de formes aventurières se renforcent. L'émergence des territoires incertains du sport pose de sérieuses questions d'aménagement en même temps qu'elle interroge sur le sens des discours énonciateurs et des rapports des sportifs au monde.Sport, and the manner in which it is practised, has seen a change of milieu; we are therefore invited to study the different territorial forms it has taken on. The changes have come gradually: to commence with, sports areas were set aside with every facility for sportsman and spectator. The next stage (developing more and more since the sixties) has seen an attraction towards wide open spaces where the athletes are seeking new areas for the enjoyment of their leisure pursuits. Deserting the habitual sports institutions for more individual, less organized activities, the accent is on individuation, hybridization and adventure. The emergence of such non-established sports territories is the bane of town and country planners; their existence substantiates the revealing statements of the sports community and brings into question their relationship with society as a whole
