Ultrasonic Guided Wave Propagation through Welded Lap Joints

    No full text
The objective of the research presented here is the investigation of ultrasonic guided wave (UGW) propagation through the lap joint welded plates used in the construction of a storage tank floors. The investigations have been performed using numerical simulation by finite element method (FEM) and tested by measurement of the transmission losses of the guided waves transmitted through the welded lap joints. Propagation of the symmetric S0 mode in the welded stainless steel plates in the cases of different lap joint overlap width, operation frequency, and additional plate bonding caused by corrosion were investigated. It was shown that the transmission losses of the S0 mode can vary in the range of 2 dB to 8 dB depending on the ratio between lap joint width and wavelength. It was also demonstrated that additional bonding in the overlap zone caused by corrosion can essentially reduce transmission losses

The influence of laser treatment on metal coating sprinkled with wire explode

    No full text
The research of influence of laser beam on surfaces with metal coating sprinkled with wire explode is described in this paper. Aiming to increase hardness of metal coating sprinkled with wire explode, we decided to use laser technologies for that, as one of ways for surface treatment. The samples with metal coating sprinkled with wire 2.0Cd0.8U2C explode were strengthened with laser "KvanM6" beam, when energy of beam was ~ 9J, - 6 J, 13= 4 J, I*- 2 J and diameter of beam - d|= 1.5 mm, d2 = 2 mm, d3 = 2.5 mm. The depth of strengthened layer depends not only on strength of laser beam but more on metal coating sprinkled with wire explode layer. Surface hardness was 1.5 - 2.5 times better than in case of metal coating sprinkled with wire explodeVytauto Didžiojo universitetasŽemės ūkio akademij

A study of tribological behaviour of W-Co and Cu electro-spark alloyed layers under lubricated sliding conditions

Electro-spark-alloying was used to enhance tribological properties of carbon steel surfaces. Two different materials - copper and W-Co were used for alloying. Surfaces were compared according to topography, mechanical and tribological properties. The properties of alloyed surfaces were compared with untreated steel surface. Results show that electro-spark-alloyed surfaces have high roughness which must be reduced during grinding or polishing. The alloyed surfaces possess better tribological properties in comparison to untreated steel surface. The W-Co alloyed surface shoved the best tribological properties. The surface after the test has almost no wear and its steady state friction was about 30% smaller. Alloying with copper reduced wear more than two times, however its run-in friction is unacceptableVytauto Didžiojo universitetasŽemės ūkio akademij
