    Sonographic Evaluation of Chronic Kidney Disease Correlating with Serum Creatinine Level

    Background: Chronic kidney disease is defined as abnormality of urinary system, there is persistent abnormality of structure and upward renal excretory function that is sign of irreversible damage to function of nephron. It is a public health problem world widely and it is 12th most common cause of mortality and morbidity, respectively. Objective: To evaluate chronic kidney disease (CKD) sonographically in addition correlating echogenicity with the level of serum creatinine. Study Design: An analytical Cross sectional prospective study. Settings: Life Care Hospital, Radiology department Lahore. Period: 20th December 2020 till 10th April 2021. Material & Methods: In our study all those patients with age above 18, patients suffering from chronic kidney disease, patient on hemodialysis, diabetic and hypertensive were included. While patient below 18 age, patients on peritoneal dialysis were excluded in which 71 patients were enrolled in the research. All the patient’s data had been composed from indoor of hospital, outdoor of hospital, and emergency department of Life Care Hospital, Lahore. After informed consent, data was composed through ultrasound machine Toshiba Xario Prime. Results: The findings revealed that there were 71 Chronic Renal Failure patients, 45 of whom were male and 26 of whom were female, with ages ranging from 20 to 73. Since the P value is > 0.05 of the relevance indicators, there is no important relationship between the two variables. Conclusion: The ideal sonographic parameter that can be used to correlate the level of serum creatinine with kidney parameter within ultrasound is kidney cortical echogenicity. As kidney cortical echogenicity does not reverses as the disease progress even after the treatment, so it is the most accurate parameter that can be used.     Physical Activity Levels And Junk Food Intake Among School Going Adolescents In A North Indian City

    Introduction: Physical activity and diet go hand in hand for the maintenance of good health. This becomes even more important in school-going adolescent students as they are readily exposed to a wide variety of junk food items inside or around their school premises and lead increasingly sedentary lifestyles as they progress through their academics. Aim and Objective: Toassess the junk food intake and physical activity level among school-going adolescents. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 800 school-based adolescents aged 12 to 14 years at AMU High Schools, Aligarh. Students were asked about their physical activity and dietary habits by disseminating a self-reported questionnaire. The data were analyzed in SPSS version 20.0. Results: The majority of the adolescents had a moderate level of physical activity (53%), while 23% of the students had high and 24% had low physical activity levels. On the analysis of the students’ dietary habits, it was found that a staggering 70.75% of students had more than the recommended intake of junk food items. The association between physical activity and junk food intake was found to be significant. Conclusion: More emphasis should be given to limiting junk food intake, increasing healthy food intake, and motivating the students to be more physically active. This can be done by encouraging the family as well as teachers at the school level and creating more spaces for children to be physically active at the community level

    A comparison between solar thermal and photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) systems for typical household in Libya

    —The fossil fuel in Libya produces the most of the generated electricity. As the energy demand will escalate significantly in the near future, more oil and gas are consumed and hence more CO2 emission. Therefore, for a sustained development the renewable energy must share in the electricity market. The special location of Libya in the highest sunny belt makes the solar energy one of the best alternative energy supplier. This paper is aimed at proposing an effective solution to enhance continuous power availability and to reduce the peak load demand in Libyan electric grid through replacing the electric heaters with Domestic Solar Water Heating (DSWH). Two alternatives are analyzed; photovoltaic-solar water heating (PV-SWH) system and photovoltaic-photovoltaic/thermal (PVPV/T). The two options are compared in terms of the capital cost, maintenance cost, total cost, fuel cost and the CO2 emission. The results show that the total energy saving for the PV-SWH system is around 69.79% of the total energy required. Furthermore, the total energy saving for the PV-PV/T system is about 75.02% of the net energy need

    Evaluation of Lumber Spine Stenosis on Magnetic Resonance Imaging Correlating with Its Clinical Manifestation

    Lumber spine stenosis (LSS) is one of the major reasons of spinal surgery all over the globe. Despite using standard Diagnostic tools for LSS, the clinical and imaging findings often do not correlate. Over past years, the central spinal canal stenosis is assumed to be the diagnoses of lower back pain, while other anatomical stenosis (i.e lateral recess stenosis) not gaining as much attention. This fact assumed to be the reason for failed back surgery. In this context numerous studies in past have done. The aim of this study is to verify the clinical manifestation of LSS correlation to its Diagnostic find. To evaluate the lumbar spine stenosis on magnetic resonance imaging & correlating with its clinical manifestations. The duration of study was three months. Study was done at Lahore General Hospital, Pakistan. A cross-sectional analytical study included 120 patients. According our study the patients comes with lumber spine stenosis at different levels. At L4L5 presents 39 (32.5%) patients, 47(39.2%) patients reveal at the level of L5S1, 14 (11.7%) patients at L2L3, and only 3 (2.5%) patients appear at the level of L1L2, 19 (15.8%) patients show stenosis at L3L4 Then we correlate the pain intensity with all lumber spine levels and the results are 35 (29.2%) patients are absent and 85 (70.8%) presents at the level of L4L5. On the level of L5S1 pain intensity is absent in 81 (67.5%) patients, & present in 39 (32.5) patients. On the level of L2L3 106 (83.5%) absent and 14 (11.7%) patients are present pain intensity.  On the level of L1L2 117 (97.5%) absent of pain intensity and only 3 (2.5%) patients are present with pain intensity. The study concluded that the clinical manifestation of lumber spine stenosis to devise the management plan for the patient for better diagnoses in magnetic resonance imaging in LSS.     Transcriptomic Alterations in Lung Adenocarcinoma Unveil New Mechanisms Targeted by the TBX2 Subfamily of Tumor Suppressor Genes

    T-box (TBX) transcription factors are evolutionary conserved genes and master transcriptional regulators. In mammals, TBX2 subfamily (TBX2, TBX3, TBX4, and TBX5) genes are expressed in the developing lung bud and tracheae. Our group previously showed that the expression of TBX2 subfamily was significantly high in human normal lungs, but markedly suppressed in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). To further elucidate their role in LUAD pathogenesis, we first confirmed abundant expression of protein products of the four members by immunostaining in adult human normal lung tissues. We also found overall suppressed expression of these genes and their corresponding proteins in a panel of human LUAD cell lines. Transient over-expression of each of the genes in human (NCI-H1299), and mouse (MDA-F471) derived lung cancer cells was found to significantly inhibit growth and proliferation as well as induce apoptosis. Genome-wide transcriptomic analyses on NCI-H1299 cells, overexpressing TBX2 gene subfamily, unraveled novel regulatory pathways. These included, among others, inhibition of cell cycle progression but more importantly activation of the histone demethylase pathway. When using a pattern-matching algorithm, we showed that TBX's overexpression mimic molecular signatures from azacitidine treated NCI-H1299 cells which in turn are inversely correlated to expression profiles of both human and murine lung tumors relative to matched normal lung. In conclusion, we showed that the TBX2 subfamily genes play a critical tumor suppressor role in lung cancer pathogenesis through regulating its methylating pattern, making them putative candidates for epigenetic therapy in LUAD

    Precision Measurement of B(D+ -> mu+ nu) and the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant fD+

    We measure the branching ratio of the purely leptonic decay of the D+ meson with unprecedented precision as B(D+ -> mu+ nu) = (3.82 +/- 0.32 +/- 0.09)x10^(-4), using 818/pb of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR collider. We use this determination to derive a value for the pseudoscalar decay constant fD+, combining with measurements of the D+ lifetime and assuming |Vcd| = |Vus|. We find fD+ = (205.8 +/- 8.5 +/- 2.5) MeV. The decay rate asymmetry [B(D+ -> mu+ nu)-B(D- -> mu- nu)]/[B(D+ -> mu+ nu)+B(D- -> mu- nu)] = 0.08 +/- 0.08, consistent with no CP violation.     Precision Measurement of the Mass of the h_c(1P1) State of Charmonium

    A precision measurement of the mass of the h_c(1P1) state of charmonium has been made using a sample of 24.5 million psi(2S) events produced in e+e- annihilation at CESR. The reaction used was psi(2S) -> pi0 h_c, pi0 -> gamma gamma, h_c -> gamma eta_c, and the reaction products were detected in the CLEO-c detector. Data have been analyzed both for the inclusive reaction and for the exclusive reactions in which eta_c decays are reconstructed in fifteen hadronic decay channels. Consistent results are obtained in the two analyses. The averaged results of the present measurements are M(h_c)=3525.28+-0.19 (stat)+-0.12(syst) MeV, and B(psi(2S) -> pi0 h_c)xB(h_c -> gamma eta_c)= (4.19+-0.32+-0.45)x10^-4.     J/psi and psi(2S) Radiative Transitions to eta_c

    Using 24.5 million psi(2S) decays collected with the CLEO-c detector at CESR we present the most precise measurements of magnetic dipole transitions in the charmonium system. We measure B(psi(2S)->gamma eta_c) = (4.32+/-0.16+/-0.60)x10^-3, B(J/psi->gamma eta_c)/B(psi(2S)->gamma eta_c) = 4.59+/-0.23+/-0.64, and B(J/psi->gamma eta_c) = (1.98+/-0.09+/-0.30)%. We observe a distortion in the eta_c line shape due to the photon-energy dependence of the magnetic dipole transition rate. We find that measurements of the eta_c mass are sensitive to the line shape, suggesting an explanation for the discrepancy between measurements of the eta_c mass in radiative transitions and other production mechanisms.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure

    Inclusive chi_bJ(nP) Decays to D0 X

    Using Upsilon(2S) and Upsilon(3S) data collected with the CLEO III detector we have searched for decays of chi_bJ to final states with open charm. We fully reconstruct D0 mesons with p_D0 > 2.5 GeV/c in three decay modes (K-pi+, K-pi+pi0, and K-pi-pi+pi+) in coincidence with radiative transition photons that tag the production of one of the chi_bJ(nP) states. We obtain significant signals for the two J=1 states. Recent NRQCD calculations of chi_{bJ}(nP) --> c cbar X depend on one non-perturbative parameter per chi_bJ triplet. The extrapolation from the observed D0 X rate over a limited momentum range to a full c cbar X rate also depends on these same parameters. Using our data to fit for these parameters, we extract results which agree well with NRQCD predictions, confirming the expectation that charm production is largest for the J=1 states.     Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of D_s^+ --> tau^+ nu_tau Decay

    Using a sample of tagged D_s decays collected near the D^*_s D_s peak production energy in e+e- collisions with the CLEO-c detector, we study the leptonic decay D^+_s to tau^+ nu_tau via the decay channel tau^+ to e^+ nu_e bar{nu}_tau. We measure B(D^+_s to tau^+ nu_tau) = (6.17 +- 0.71 +- 0.34) %, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Combining this result with our measurements of D^+_s to mu^+ nu_mu and D^+_s to tau^+ nu_tau (via tau^+ to pi^+ bar{nu}_tau), we determine f_{D_s} = (274 +- 10 +- 5) MeV.Comment: 9 pages, postscript also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2007/, revise
