An investigation on the factors influencing on employee job satisfaction: a special reference to supermarket industry, Batticaloa district
Job satisfaction is very important because the employees are the decision
makers in the organization and direct the organization in to a success. However retaining
good employees continues to be a challenge. Presently, the modern supermarket industry
records a high employee turnover. Notwithstanding the ever rising attrition rate, it has
become critical for the companies to satisfy their employees in order to retain them. The
purpose of this paper is to determine what and how organization related are associated with
job satisfaction of the super market employees. A total of 97 questionnaires were
administered to the super market outlets in Batticaloa district. The study made use of both
descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed that all organization related factors
concerned for the study such as pay, working conditions, organizational policy and
administration, promotion opportunities and the work itself have significant positive
relationship with employee satisfaction. Regression revealed the significant determinants of
employee satisfaction which were promotion and working conditions. Not only that, the
findings also revealed that there is no difference in the perception of employees towards the
job satisfaction on the basis of gender. The present study illuminates the existing theoretical
foundations regarding employee satisfaction by exploring the detailed and ample responses
provided by super market employees in Batticaloa District. This will enable organizations to
correctly gauge employee satisfaction based on the organization-related factors; this can help
practitioners to make robust managerial decisions
Influence of knowledge on technology adoption in the rice milling industry for transformation of the business in the Ampara district
The importance of technology adoption to
businesses is widely acknowledged. Yet, while large
businesses have been using sophisticated technologies
for some time, small businesses have been slow
adopting it. This paper examines the effect of
knowledge of the owners/ managers and adoption of
technology among Rice millers in the Ampara district
of Sri Lanka. This is an explanatory study and the
analysis is quantitative based on managerial level
people in rice mills and hypothesis was formulated and
tested using data collected from a sample of 28 rice
millers in the district. The results suggest that the
business related knowledge of Rice millers are not
much influencing on technology adoption for
transformation of their businesse
The case of Islamic Bank in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is one of the few non-Islamic
countries to have legislated for Islamic
banking. Islamic banking and finance is a
emerging industry in sri lanka where there is
a fully fledge islamic bank and other
conventional banks operating islamic
windows providing services to wide range of
customers. This study is designed to examine
the effects of the following factors: attitude;
social influence; religious obligation; and
pricing of Islamic financing, on the intention
to use Islamic financing. Data were collected
through questionnaire and used SPSS 16.0 to
analyze the data using regression analysis.
The study found two determinants to be
significant in influencing the intention to use
Islamic financing, namely, consumer attitude
and religious obligation. Social influence and
pricing of Islamic financing were found to be
insignificant
Organizational culture as a determinant factor of business transformation on agri-business in the Ampara District of Eastern Province in Sri Lanka - an empirical study
Culture of an organization contributes firms to have a changing attitude.
A culture supporting people's pursuit of change initiatives is important
in coping with successful transformation. In Ampara district, there are
enough resources for the development purpose, opportunity for self employment,
small scale businesses, and improvement of livelihood.
Agri-business in Sri Lanka has been growing to a great extent and faces
several challenges such as large scale businesses, technology change,
globalization, and cultural barriers. The objective of this research paper
is to understand the organizational culture in this district at present and
identifies the constraints associated with it in the organizations and
persons engaged in agribusiness for rapid transformation. For the
purpose of the study, data were collected from 100 respondents in the
region by using convenience sampling in this sector mainly with the use
of structured questionnaire. It reviews prospective strategies and
managerial implications towards the improvement of present system
used in agribusiness sector in the region
