Evaluation of Modified Non-Normal Process Capability Index and Its Bootstrap Confidence Intervals
Process capability index (PCI) is used to quantify the process performance and is becoming an attracted area of research. A variability measure plays an important role in PCI. The interquartile range (IQR) or the median absolute deviation (MAD) is commonly used for a variability measure in estimating PCI when a process follows a non-normal distribution In this paper, the efficacy of the IQR and MAD-based PCIs was evaluated under low, moderate, and high asymmetric behavior of the Weibull distribution using different sample sizes through three different bootstrap confidence intervals. The result reveals that MAD performs better than IQR, because the former produced less bias and mean square error. Also, the percentile bootstrap confidence interval is recommended for use, because it has less average width and high coverage probability.11Ysciescopu

Assessing nitrate contamination risks in groundwater : a machine learning approach
Groundwater is one of the primary sources for the daily water requirements of the masses, but it is subjected to contamination due to the pollutants, such as nitrate, percolating through the soil with water. Especially in built-up areas, groundwater vulnerability and contamination are of major concern, and require appropriate consideration. The present study develops a novel framework for assessing groundwater nitrate contamination risk for the area along the Karakoram Highway, which is a part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route in northern Pakistan. A groundwater vulnerability map was prepared using the DRASTIC model. The nitrate concentration data from a previous study were used to formulate the nitrate contamination map. Three machine learning (ML) models, i.e., Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multivariate Discriminant Analysis (MDA), and Boosted Regression Trees (BRT), were used to analyze the probability of groundwater contamination incidence. Furthermore, groundwater contamination probability maps were obtained utilizing the ensemble modeling approach. The models were calibrated and validated through calibration trials, using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve method (AUC), where a minimum AUC threshold value of 80% was achieved. Results indicated the accuracy of the models to be in the range of 0.82–0.87. The final groundwater contamination risk map highlights that 34% of the area is moderately vulnerable to groundwater contamination, and 13% of the area is exposed to high groundwater contamination risk. The findings of this study can facilitate decision-making regarding the location of future built-up areas properly in order to mitigate the nitrate contamination that can further reduce the associated health risks. © 2021 by the authors. ORGANIZATIONAL POLITICS AND PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES: INVESTIGATING THE BUFFERING EFFECT OF ORGANIZATIONAL JUSTICE
In current study, it was theorized that perceived fairness reduces the detrimental effects of perception of organizational politics on performance outcomes of organizations i.e. organizational commitment, managerial effectiveness and organizational performance. To test this exposition, data of 243 managerial employees of banking sector have been obtained and used to find out the moderating effect of organizational justice on perception of organizational politics and performance outcomes. The findings reached at the conclusion that distributive and procedural dimensions of the organizational justice safeguard the damaging effects of perception of organizational politics on performance but interactional justice has not verified as moderator. This study extends the fairness theory and recommends management to flourish fairness culture in organizations to reduce the injurious effects of organizational politics in the workplace
Testing the Moderating Role of Environmental Audits in the Relationship Between the Carbon Taxand Renewable Energy Consumption: Evidencefrom Japanese Manufacturing Firms
Global warming and climate change are the outcomes of excessive carbon emissions (CO2) from the consumption of fossil fuels. To reduce the volume of CO2 and to overcome this challenging environmental problem, it is imperative to encourage renewable energy consumption (REC). Furthermore, environmental regulations can also play a crucial role in promoting sustainable business practices. Thus, the primary aim of this research is to examine the impact of the carbon tax on REC. The random-effects regression model is applied through STATA 16 by using a panel of 1080 manufacturing firm-year observations from Japan for the period 2004-2019. We find a significant positive relationship between the carbon tax and REC. Due to the carbon taxation, businesses shift to renewable energy as it reduces CO2 and improves corporate environmental performance (CEP). Further, the secondary objective of this research is to examine the moderating role of environmental audits between the carbon tax and REC relationship. The empirical results confirm that environmental audits positively moderate the relationship between the carbon tax and REC. The findings of this study are in line with the stakeholder theory because mainly the environmental protection is an outcome of stakeholders’ pressure. Furthermore, the results and implications of this study are helpful for regulators, environment policymakers, environment managers, investors, and environmentalists. This research study is unique because it is among the very few studies that have explored the impact of the carbon tax on REC in the corporate sector
Synthesis of novel WO3.0·33H2O microrods assembled discs with remarkable photocatalytic and electrochemical properties
The morphology of the materials is reputed to exhibit remarkable effect on the overall photocatalytic and electrochemical performance. In this study, novel WO3.0·33H2O microrods assembled discs (MADs) were successfully synthesized for the first time by simple hydrothermal method. The structure and morphological analysis of WO3.0·33H2O MADs was conducted by XRD and SEM/FESEM while its purity was confirmed by EDX spectroscopy. XRD presented the hexagonal crystal structure whereas the SEM/FESEM results revealed the microrods assembled disc type morphology with average diameter and width of the disc as 9.7 μm and 1.6 μm respectively. The vibrational modes were examined by FTIR and the existence of O-W-O, W = O bonds and O–H stretching modes confirmed the formation of WO3.0·33H2O MADs. The optical properties were studied by UV–Visible and PL spectroscopy which presented the bandgap energy of 2.3 eV while the blue PL emission at 434 nm was resulting from the band-to-band transition which also demonstrated the activation of MADs in visible region of spectrum. Finally, the photocatalytic activity of WO3.0·33H2O MADs was performed for the degradation of industrial wastewater which was about 2.3 times higher than that of commercially available WO3. In addition, the electrochemical properties were also investigated using 0.5 M H2SO4 and the calculated specific capacitance was 798 Fg-1 which was 3.8 times greater than commercial WO3 (207 Fg-1). These findings makes WO3.0·33H2O MADs as a potential candidate for visible light driven photocatalyst and as an electrode material for supercapacitors.</p
