    SMDB: Soybean Marker DataBase

    Get PDF
Soybean Marker Database (SMDB) is a repository of important genomic information for soybean. At present several genomic databases are available for plants. Some of the important oilseeds plant databases are ATPID database, Castor Bean Genome Database, CGPDB, SoyBase, Legume Information System (LIS), Brassica database, Sinbase, etc. To gain comprehensive information from varied amount of resources, we developed  this database which provides general as well as specific information at universal level. Along with this it also furnishes gene level information for various functional categories such as transcription factor, disease resistant varieties, heat shock protein, genetically modified strain of soybean. The bunch of information available to researchers today increases in tremendous manner. Hence understanding the plant genome specific databases for acquiring specific information is the demand of time for crop improvement and  research programmes. SMDB is designed for the purpose of exploring potential gene differences in different plant genotypes, including genetically modified and disease resistant crops beneficial to the farmer who cultivate this crop. SMDB is publicly accessible for academic and research purpose at: http://www.bioinfoindia.org/smdb/

Heat Transfer and Friction Factor Correlations Development for Double Pass Solar Air Heater Artificially Roughened With Perforated Multi-V Ribs

Thermo-hydraulic performance of a Double Pass Parallel Flow Solar Air Heater (DPPFSAH) roughened with perforated multi-V ribs has been studied experimentally in a prior study and the effect of variation in open area ratio and change in relative roughness width has been analysed and reported. The current work builds upon the aforementioned earlier study by discussing in detail the methodology and various steps involved in the development of a correlation for variable parameters with Nusselt number and friction factor for DPPFSAH. The outcomes show that perforations in the multi-V ribs lead to a considerable rise in the Nusselt number, a 9.66 times increase in the thermo-hydraulic performance parameter and nearly a four times increase in friction factor compared to multi-V ribs with smoothed walls. Empirical correlations for the Nusselt number and friction factor were obtained for the double pass parallel flow solar air heater with perforated multi-V ribs established with ±14% and ±7%

Statistical information retrieval models: Experiments, evaluation on real time data

We are all aware of the rise of information age: heterogeneous sources of information and the ability to publish rapidly and indiscriminately are responsible for information chaos. In this work, we are interested in a system which can separate the "wheat" of vital information from the chaff within this information chaos. An efficient filtering system can accelerate meaningful utilization of knowledge. Consider Wikipedia, an example of community-driven knowledge synthesis. Facts about topics on Wikipedia are continuously being updated by users interested in a particular topic. Consider an automatic system (or an invisible robot) to which a topic such as "President of the United States" can be fed. This system will work ceaselessly, filtering new information created on the web in order to provide the small set of documents about the "President of the United States" that are vital to keeping the Wikipedia page relevant and up-to-date. In this work, we present an automatic information filtering system for this task. While building such a system, we have encountered issues related to scalability, retrieval algorithms, and system evaluation; we describe our efforts to understand and overcome these issues

Development of On-Machine System for Measurement of Workpiece Substrate Properties and Topography

Commercially available nanoindentation testers are often limited to planar specimens only a few millimeters thick. They are also highly sensitive to vibration. In this study, a vibration tolerant indentation system that can be mounted inside a 5-axis machine is proposed which eliminates restrictions on specimen thickness and shape. The drive unit contains a piezoelectric actuator that stretches and pushes on the center of a flexure when a voltage is applied. A diamond indenter is mounted on the load-cell and placed at the tip of a cylindrical member, which is itself fixed to the flexure. A displacement sensor is attached next to the indenter and measures relative displacement to the specimen surface. Compliance of the system was compensated by signal processing, after which comparison of measurement results against a commercial testing device showed overall agreement on the hardness and Young's modulus across various metal specimens. Future practical changes are also proposed to improve the measurement performance

Maternal risk factors associated with intrauterine growth restriction: hospital based study

Objective: To study the maternal risk factors of intrauterine growth restriction. Methods: A retrospective analysis was done at a tertiary care Hospital. Ninety three inborn intrauterine growth restriction cases were selected and data was collected by perusal of antenatal records. Intrauterine growth restriction was defined as occurring if birth weight of the newborn is below 10th percentile for gestational age on the intrauterine growth curve based on Fenton’s charts. Results: Mean age of the mothers included in the study was 20.2 ± 2.857 years. Forty four (47.3%) were born to primipara and 49 (52.7%) to multigravida. Younger maternal age, multiparity were found to be the significant socio-demographic factors associated with Intrauterine growth restriction while, pre eclampsia, chronic hypertension and anemia were the maternal biological factors found to be significantly associated on bivariate analysis. Conclusions: Younger age, multigravida and chronic medical illnesses are the main risk factors in this hospital based population. Inclusion of prenatal education and screening for medical disorders in antenatal care guidelines will help in curtailing the incidence of IUGR

Aim; To identify the microbiological profile and associated risk factors for microbial corneal ulcer in a tertiary care hospital of South West Bihar. Methods; In this prospective study conducted at Narayan Medical College and Hospital, Sasaram, Bihar, India. Total 61 patients with a clinical diagnosis of corneal ulcer were included. After detail history and slit lamp evaluation of corneal ulcer, corneal scraping was performed and subjected to microbiological analysis including Gram stain, potassium hydroxide(KOH) wet mount and bacterial and fungal culture. Results; Among total 61 patients included in our study, male to female ratio is almost equal and the most common affected age group was 41-60 years. Commonest profession affected was agriculture workers in 77% of cases and the commonest risk factor associated was trauma while working in agriculture fields in 44% of cases. The peak in the incidence of corneal ulcer cases were during harvesting of paddy crops in winter months. Forty eight percent of the ulcers were found to be culture positive. Among culture positive patients 79% were fungal and rest 21% were bacterial. Fusarium spp was the most common fungal isolate(48%) followed by Aspergillus spp (26%).Among bacteria S. aureus was the most common organism(66.6%) isolated. Conclusion; :- In our study, we found that that in region of south west Bihar , fungal (specially Fusarium spp) corneal ulcers predominate, as the majority of patients present with a history of antecedent vegetative trauma mainly during harvesting of paddy crops in winter season. Managing infective suppurative corneal ulcers with timely and appropriate antimicrobial therapy will help to prevent the cases of corneal ulcer and it’s sequel. Key words: Corneal ulcer, Microbiological profile, Fusarium, Seasonal tren

Mathematical Modeling of Efficiency Evaluation of Double-Pass Parallel Flow Solar Air Heater

To investigate the influencing range and optimize values of different operational and system parameters on the double-pass parallel flow solar air heater’s (DPPFSAH) thermal, effective, and exergetic efficiencies, an iterative method was used to analyze the governing energy equations using a theoretical model written in MATLAB based on the Nusselt number (Nu) and friction factor (f) correlations developed in the work performed earlier. A comparison between double-pass and single-pass SAHs for mathematical and experimental outcomes was conducted, and the results were found to be fairly consistent. According to the thermo-hydraulic performance indicators, similar to single-pass SAHs, perforated multi-V rib-roughened DPPFSAHs achieve optimum thermal performance for lower Reynolds numbers, which does not change much as the Reynolds number increases above 18,000. This finding can be taken into account when designing any DPPFSAH
