Development and Simulation of Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Controller Based Pitch Angle Controlled DFIG System For Wind Turbine

Wind energy is clean and renewable, which will never be dried up. The development of wind power has drawn the attention of the world and the proportion of wind power in the grid is getting higher and higher. Nowadays, the mainstream model of the wind power generator (WTG) is doubly-fed wind power generator (DFIG). With more and more wind power generators connected to the grid, the safe and steady operation of the power system will be deeply influenced. Wind turbines can operate with either fixed speed or variable speed. For fixed speed wind turbines, the generator (induction generator) is directly connected to grid. Since the speed is about fixed to the grid, and mainly certainly not controllable, the turbulence of the wind will result in power variations, and thus affect the power quality of the grid. Modern high power wind turbines are capable of adjustable speed operation and use either singly-fed induction generator (SFIG) or doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) systems. The DFIG technology allows extracting maximum energy from the wind for low wind speeds by optimizing the turbine speed, presently DFIG based wind turbines are quite popular as it can extract maximum power. Though the DFIG based wind turbines can able to provides maximum extent of power but greatly suffers from the power oscillation, to overcome this problem this paper proposes a novel adaptive neuro fuzzy controller (ANFIS) for efficient pitch angle control of DFIG system for wind power generation, so that the DFIG based wind turbines not only able to provide maximum power but the power obtained will be highly stable also, irrespective to the wind speed fluctuations. For the comparative analysis, a comparison is also presented between the conventional PI controller and proposed ANFIS based controller. The obtained result indicates that, the proposed method is highly efficient to sustain the power oscillations as compare to state of art techniques. In addition to this it is also found that, the proposed ANFIS based pitch angle controller takes 80% less settling time as compare to conventional PI controller. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.15062

Determinants of Work-Life Balance: A Cross-Cultural Review of Selected Asian Countries

    Get PDF
Work-life balance has been recently viewed as one of the critical issues about organisational policies across different cultures and regions. The earlier studies of work-life balance have focused predominantly in the Western and developed nations with slight attention to the experience of work-life balance among Asian countries. Researchers have also paid little attention to examine work-life balance from a cross-cultural perspective, especially in Asian countries. The principal purpose of the present study is to analyse the available literature on the work-life balance among selected Asian countries. The focus of the present study is to identify the determinants of work-life balance and scrutinise the highly significant determinants of work-life balance across different cultures and regions. Based on identified determinants, it will suggest suitable measures to improve the most prevailing determinant of work-life balance among Asian countries. Further, the current study will also identify the current state of work-life balance focusing on theory, logic and methodology. The methods of the study involve secondary data to find out determinants of work-life balance conducted in India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore and China; and it will compare the effectiveness of determinants of work-life balance to these regions. The data will help to describe how employees perceive work-life balance and why they engage in paid work, and what approaches are being adopted by these countries to balance work life in the context of varying economic, political, cultural, social and family conditions. The findings of present research and analyses will provide scholars with a complete understanding of the state of cross-cultural work-life balance and offer recommendations for future research that will undoubtedly facilitate theoretical advancement. &nbsp

The Impact of Research Design on the Compromise Effect

    Get PDF
This work investigates the impact of research design on the results of the compromise effect, using meta-analytic evidence. The findings suggest that experimental characteristics have a major impact on the obtained extremeness aversion results, while sample characteristics have little impact. We discuss implications and methodological recommendations based on our analysis

Awareness and acceptance of various contraceptive methods among postpartum women in a tertiary care center

Background: This study was conducted to know awareness and acceptance of contraceptive methods among post-partum women in the tertiary care centre of Chhattisgarh. Methods: A cross-sectional interview-based study was conducted on a sample of 440 post-partum women. The interview included socio demographic profile, awareness and acceptance of contraceptive methods in postpartum period and factors affecting its use. Results: In our study, we observed that 95.9% were aware of some method of contraception. This knowledge increased with increasing education, socioeconomic class. 90.9 % accepted one of the contraceptive methods during their hospital stay. The most common contraceptive method chosen was IUCD (80.8%). Major source of information was health care worker (83.88%). The main reason for non-acceptance of contraception was fear of side effects. Conclusions: High level of persistent motivation is required, so initiation of motivation regarding post-partum contraception should be done in antenatal visits and reinforcement in post-partum period should be done. Proper counseling regarding possibility of milder side effects and way of coping with them should be reinforced, continued motivation and reassurance will give positive attitude for acceptance of contraception. Reinforcement of awareness in society (family and friends/neighbor) this may give positive impact on awareness and acceptance. There is need of couple counseling for better acceptance. Emphasis is required for involvement of men/head of the family for it
