Chlorosulfonic acid was used as an active, low-cost and reusable solid catalyst for conversion of ketones and aldehydes to corresponding gem-dihydroperoxides using 30% aqueous hydrogen peroxide at room temperature. The reactions proceed with high rates and excellent yields

Urea-2,2-dihydroperoxypropane as a solid oxidant which can be stored for several months without any loss in its activity has proved its capability to oxidize sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones under catalyst-free and mild conditions. This approach is a cost-effective and environmentally benign methodology via which the products have been synthesized in high yields and short reaction times

The study of chromosomal abnormalities and heteromorphism in couples with 2 or 3 recurrent abortions in Shahid Beheshti Hospital of Hamedan

Background: Different studies show that chromosomal balance translocation in the parents can cause recurrent spontaneous abortions. Incidence of chromosomal translocation abnormalities in couples with repeated abortions is from 0% to 31%. Objective: The purpose of this research was studying the presence or absence of chromosomal abnormalities and heteromorphism in couples with recurrent abortions and also the role of this anomaly in the abortions. Materials and Methods: This study is a cross sectional descriptive study which have investigated 75 couples who had three abortions or more, and 65 couples who had two abortions that referred by gynecologist to the lab of Beheshti Hospital in Hamedan for cytogenetical investigation. Also 40 healthy individuals without history of abortion investigated as control group.GTG bonding technique (staining banding with gymsa and trypsin) is used in this study. Results: Frequency of chromosomal abnormalities and heteromorphism among couples with three or more abortions were reported respectively 5.3% and 9.3%. This frequency in couples with two abortions was respectively 3.07%and 6.15%. The frequency of chromosomal heteromorphism in control group was 7.5% and no chromosomal abnormalities were observed in them. Conclusion: This study shows that chromosomal abnormality can be one reason of recurrent spontaneous abortions and more abortion increases the probability of this anomaly. Also, existence of chromosomal heteromorphism in the general population without clinical abortion symptoms shows that chromosomal heteromorphism cannot be the reason of these spontaneous abortions

Disseminated Strongyloidiasis in a Patient with Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis- Case Report

Strongyloides stercoralis (SS) is a unique nematode with an auto infective cycle, so that it completes its life cycle within the human host and can live there for many years. In immunocompromised patients, infection can cause Strongyloides hyperinfection syndrome (S.H.S) that is associated with serious morbidity and mortality. As vari-ous infections are one of the leading causes of membranoproliferative glomerulo-nephritis (MPGN), we should consider subclinical strongyloidiasis as a possible underlying disease, especially in endemic areas. Here we describe a case of strongy-loidiasis following immunosuppressive therapy for MPGN, the diagnosis of which was made, only a few hours before death, by stomach biopsy

The effect of Directed medical play on the severity of pain during burn dressing change: Clinical Randomized trial

Introduction: Pain management in children with burn is one of the most important issues in pediatric medicine. Non-pharmacological methods of pain control can play an important role in patients. Therefore this study was conducted to investigate the effect of medical directed play on the severity of pain during burn dressing change. Methods: To conduct this two-group clinical trial, 78 children of 3-6 years old with burn surface area ranging less than 25% who had referred to Shahid Motahari Medical Center for their first burn dressing change, were selected. After obtaining the ethics approval for conducting the study, the patients were placed as random allocation in control and intervention groups. For the intervention group, the pre-dressed directed medical play was done and routine care was taken for the control group. The FLACC scale was used in both groups to measure the severity of pain before and during the dressing; the arterial blood oxygen level and heart rate were also measured and compared. For data analysis, SPSS 20 was used.  Results: There were significant differences between the two groups during burn dressing change of mean pain (P=0.041) and pulse (P=0.037), and the mean of both indices in the control group was high. The mean of the arterial blood oxygen level during burn dressing change did not differ significantly between the two groups (P=1). Conclusion: Directed Medical play effectively reduces the pain of pediatric burn dressing change. This technique is cost-effective, so it can be widely used for pain management in pediatric department

Mussel-inspired polydopamine-coated silk fibroin as a promising biomaterial

Silk fibroin (SF) is one of the natural biomaterials with promising and growing potential in different clinical applications such as corneal transplantation, donor site skin substitute and tympanic membrane. Some of the SFs which are extracted from mulberry silkworm do not have the Arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) sequence to properly support cell adhesion and proliferation. Therefore, in the current study, polydopamine (PDA) coated SF are prepared to provide RGD sequence and the effect of PDA coating on different properties of SF is investigated. The results are also compared with amniotic membrane (AM) that is a commercially available natural biomaterial for mentioned applications. Raman spectra depicted characteristic peaks at 1581 and 1370 cm−1 that demonstrated the formation of the coating layer on the surface of the films. The results showed that coating led to a little decrease in membrane transparency but still transparent enough to provide vivid vision through membrane, no significant difference in surface hydrophilicity, smoother surface and improved cell attachment and distribution

Background: Spirituality is defined as the way people experience, express, and seek meanings. It is a major concept in the field of nursing care. Nursing students who are trained and exposed to patients' spiritual care will be better able to take care of their patients' spiritual needs. Objectives: The study aimed to assess perceived spiritual care competence and the related factors in nursing students during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The participants were 191 undergraduate nursing students at Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS) that were entered into the study from July 29 to December 21, 2021. The spiritual care competence scale was used to measure spiritual care competence in the participants. It is a 27-item questionnaire with six dimensions including assessing and implementing spiritual care, professionalism and improving the quality of spiritual care, personal support and patient counseling, referral to professionals, attitude towards patient’s spirituality, and communication. Data was collected using the convenience sampling method. Data analysis was done by SPSS software version 16.0 using descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate methods. Results: The mean total score of spiritual care competency was 106.8 (SD = 13.4). The mean total score of spiritual care competency was significantly higher in the native students (P = 0.031) and the students with experience of jobs in hospitals (P = 0.037). Conclusion: The findings indicated an acceptable level of performance in nursing students in spiritual care during the Covid-19 pandemic
