Tests due to Pooling Data Through Preliminary Test on Biological Direct Assay

    No full text
This paper discusses some methods for test of a mean effect on biological direct assay on the basis of pooling of data. A need for such methods is emphasized in the experiments under a restriction of small sample size at two or several similar environments or conditions, especially on biological direct assay. The principle of pooling of data is based on a scheme of T. Kitagawa [1], B. E. B. Bennett [1] which discussed the estimation of a mean effect after preliminary test of significance. And recently H. Bozivich, T . A. Bancroft and H. D. Hartley [1] discussed the power of analysis of variance test according to the pooling scheme of data. In this paper the tests of means and percentages after the preliminary test of significance are discussed and a recommendation is given from the viewpoints of the size of the power and the power gain

    TWO-MODE TWO-FACTOR ANALYSIS

    No full text
A factor-analytical method is proposed to evaluate two-way cross-classified observations. The suggested principle is based on a confirmatory situation of two-mode factor analysis in designed experimentation of physical sciences. The model has two-mode interactive factors, which are defined by two two-factor loading matrices. The analysis and procedure are rather simple and a complete FORTRAN program is given in this paper. The advantage of the proposed method is immediately to make clear the information structure involved in observations, by means of two-mode experimental factor evaluation

An extensive direct assay in biological assay

    No full text
The ordinary method of the biological direct assay has been described by many authors and most investigators being engaged in the biological assay have practiced the method for a long time. It seems, however, to us that the method is in need of large number of subjects and the fiducial limits appling Fieller\u27s theorem are mostly too wide to be useful for the consideration of the relative potency of test preparation, in spite of that the principle of Fieller\u27s theorem itself contains a kind of discussion. In this paper, an extensive method of the direct assay is proposed and its analysis is shown with the numerical illustrations. Because of that our preferable circumstances assumed in section 2 is satisfied naturally as our situation performing the considerable kinds of biological assay, and the analytical method is devised sufficiently from the theoretical and practical viewpoints, it seems that our extensive direct assay may be advantage to estimate and test the potency of test preparation for some direct assays in aid of the above appeals for the improvement of the customary direct assay
