Small Colonic Cancer with Invasion of the Subserosal Layer. Report of a Case
Small, flat-type advanced colonic adenocarcinomas are rare. We present a case of small colonic carcinoma invading the subserosal layer. A 61-year-old asymptomatic man was admitted for further examination of positive occult blood test. Barium enema and endoscopic examination revealed a small (10 mm in diameter) flat lesion with elevated margins and a central depression, in the transverse colon. Biopsy specimen taken from the tumor showed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Based on radiologic and endoscopic evaluation, a provisional diagnosis was made of colonic tumor with invasion of the deep submucosal layer. Surgical resection of the transverse colon was performed. The tumor was macroscopically a type IIa + IIc lesion measuring 10 mm in diameter. Histological examination showed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma infiltrating the subserosal layer. Awareness of this type of tumor should allow early diagnosis and treatment, resulting in improved prognosis
ETS-VIIIを利用した災害医療支援のための立体画像伝送の研究
It is pointed out that a lot of people are dead or injured, and the functions of the infrastructure are lost such as the cellular phone, the gas , water service, electricity, and roads, when the communication network system on the ground is broken down by wide-scale disaster. In order to overcome such inconvenient conditions, the construction of Tel-Radiology system not depending on the situations of the ground should be established rapidly. In addition, if 3D image technology is applied for Tel-Radiology, it may lead to the contribution of the triage to the efficiently improved operations in several areas. In this paper, we studied the capability of 3D image technology applying to Tel-Radiology. As a result of sufficient investment of bit stream data transmission of stereo 3D moving pictures employed the ETS-VIII satellite , it is found that the proposed system function well in the experiment assuming a telemedicine.
DOCK2 is involved in the host genetics and biology of severe COVID-19
「コロナ制圧タスクフォース」COVID-19疾患感受性遺伝子DOCK2の重症化機序を解明 --アジア最大のバイオレポジトリーでCOVID-19の治療標的を発見--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2022-08-10.Identifying the host genetic factors underlying severe COVID-19 is an emerging challenge. Here we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) involving 2, 393 cases of COVID-19 in a cohort of Japanese individuals collected during the initial waves of the pandemic, with 3, 289 unaffected controls. We identified a variant on chromosome 5 at 5q35 (rs60200309-A), close to the dedicator of cytokinesis 2 gene (DOCK2), which was associated with severe COVID-19 in patients less than 65 years of age. This risk allele was prevalent in East Asian individuals but rare in Europeans, highlighting the value of genome-wide association studies in non-European populations. RNA-sequencing analysis of 473 bulk peripheral blood samples identified decreased expression of DOCK2 associated with the risk allele in these younger patients. DOCK2 expression was suppressed in patients with severe cases of COVID-19. Single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis (n = 61 individuals) identified cell-type-specific downregulation of DOCK2 and a COVID-19-specific decreasing effect of the risk allele on DOCK2 expression in non-classical monocytes. Immunohistochemistry of lung specimens from patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia showed suppressed DOCK2 expression. Moreover, inhibition of DOCK2 function with CPYPP increased the severity of pneumonia in a Syrian hamster model of SARS-CoV-2 infection, characterized by weight loss, lung oedema, enhanced viral loads, impaired macrophage recruitment and dysregulated type I interferon responses. We conclude that DOCK2 has an important role in the host immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and the development of severe COVID-19, and could be further explored as a potential biomarker and/or therapeutic target
A Viable Bacillus subtilis Strain without Functional Extracytoplasmic Function Sigma Genes▿
We constructed a Bacillus subtilis Marburg strain that harbors deletion mutations in all seven extracytoplasmic function (ECF) sigma genes. The strain shows wild-type growth at 37°C both in a complex and in a synthetic medium and exhibits wild-type sporulation. ECF sigma genes of B. subtilis are dispensable as long as no stress is imposed, although they seem to be required for quick response to stresses

Correction: A Model of Postural Control in Quiet Standing: Robust Compensation of Delay-Induced Instability Using Intermittent Activation of Feedback Control
The main purpose of this study is to compare two different feedback controllers for the stabilization of quiet standing in humans, taking into account that the intrinsic ankle stiffness is insufficient and that there is a large delay inducing instability in the feedback loop: 1) a standard linear, continuous-time PD controller and 2) an intermittent PD controller characterized by a switching function defined in the phase plane, with or without a dead zone around the nominal equilibrium state. The stability analysis of the first controller is carried out by using the standard tools of linear control systems, whereas the analysis of the intermittent controllers is based on the use of Poincaré maps defined in the phase plane. When the PDcontrol is off, the dynamics of the system is characterized by a saddle-like equilibrium, with a stable and an unstable manifold. The switching function of the intermittent controller is implemented in such a way that PD-control is ‘off ’ when the state vector is near the stable manifold of the saddle and is ‘on ’ otherwise. A theoretical analysis and a related simulation study show that the intermittent control model is much more robust than the standard model because the size of the region in the parameter space of the feedback control gains (P vs. D) that characterizes stable behavior is much larger in the latter case than in the former one. Moreover, the intermittent controller can use feedback parameters that are much smaller than the standard model. Typical sway patterns generated by the intermittent controller are the result of an alternation between slow motion along the stable manifold of the saddle, when the PD-control is off, and spiral motion away from th
