    Matlab based modeling and simulink package for DC-DC boost convertor to enhance learning process of power electronics

    In this study, DC-DC boost converter Matlab Simulink Package has been developed and tested for the enhancement of learning process within academic course of power electronics. Respondent for this research were chosen randomly from Faculty of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Tun Hussein Onn University of Malaysia. Aim of this study is to figure out and see the effectiveness of DC-DC boost convertors Simulink package for the enhancement of learning process of Power electronic course. A Pre�research statistical analysis based on the response of concerned students acquired through a relative questioner is employed to affirm the need of this simulation package. Analysis for this study has been verified by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 20.0 software. Afterwards, a simulation package as required has been developed accordingly to test and illustrate the operation of DC-DC boost convertor using open-loop, Proportional integral derivative (PID) controller and Fuzzy logic controller topologies. Finally, a post-research questioner was also floated through same respondent population in order to evaluate and assess the effect and significance of the designed simulation package. It was observed through the statistical analysis of the afore mentioned post research questioner that, the use of simulation based package regarding the enhancement of learning proved to have a significant effect. Expect this study findings will be one of the catalysts in strengthening improve the instructional methods by using simulation software’s in Power electronics and engineering courses

    Development of a novel knowledge-based decision support system for accident prevention of oil and gas drilling process

    Oil and gas drilling process is highly associated with numerous hazardous conditions and potential risks at onshore and offshore drilling domains due to the unpredictable nature of this procedure. Thus, there is a sheer need of an efficient Knowledge-Based Decision Support System (KBDSS) based on the most effective and innovative potential hazards controlling factors, strategies and preventive measures to overcome the accidents at drilling sites. Therefore, in this study the most hazardous drilling operations with their associated potential hazards and effective hazard controlling factors at Malaysian, Saudi Arabian and Pakistani onshore and offshore drilling industries have been identified. Moreover, based on the identified hazard controls, a new KBDSS has been developed by using MySQL and Visual Studio 2015 software. In this study, sequential explanatory and evaluation research designs have been adopted. The developed system has been implemented on targeted industries to assess its decision-making potential, effectiveness of hazard controls, level of user satisfaction and performance for vestibule safety training activities. The quantitative and qualitative data has been gathered from oil and gas drilling crew (240 respondents) and safety and health experts (9 respondents) through survey instruments and semi-structured interviews. Furthermore, the descriptive and inferential statistical tests have been used for quantitative data analysis. Whereas, “What-If Analysis” and thematic analysis approaches have been utilized for analyzing the qualitative data. According to the overall quantitative and qualitative results of this study, the developed KBDSS based on the identified effective hazard controlling factors and preventive measures, proved to be suitable for appropriate decision making during hazardous conditions as well as for vestibule training activities at both drilling domains at oil and gas industries in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan with in moderate (Mean = 2.50-3.49) and high (Mean = 3.50-5.0) level of mean range. In conclusion, this study has introduced a new and efficient KBDSS for accident prevention at oil and gas extraction process which covers all onshore and offshore drilling operations from different regions to achieve the latest trend of industrial IoT as per international safety standards and regulations

    Impact of Flipped Classroom Approach on Students’ Learning in Post-Pandemic: A Survey Research on Public Sector Schools

    This research focuses on the increasing dependency on flipped classrooms with the merger of distance teaching and learning instead of face-to-face classrooms during the pandemic, which impacted student's performance and learning post-pandemic. The primary purpose of this research study was to identify support, motivation, participation, collaboration, assessment, and feedback gained through the use of flipped classrooms with the merger of distance teaching instead of a physical classroom in the pandemic situations and the challenges faced by teachers in using flipped classroom. The main intention is to analyze flipped classroom effectiveness as an emerging concept in a pandemic situation. In this research, a methodology is recommended step by step below in the methodology section-a quantitative research method used to collect accurate and reliable results. A survey research method was used in this study. The populations of 90-73 respondents among higher secondary grade students of the public school in Sukkur were selected for data collection. For managing the data, SPSS statistics software was used. In inferential statistics, an independent-samples t-test was used for the analysis of data. The results were analyzed based on gender mean score. The significant findings from this study suggested that the flipped classroom is a practical learning approach that enhances student engagement, performance, and learning in the class. It is summed up that a large number of students favoured the flipped classroom approach over traditional pedagogy. This study will help to further integrate this approach into higher levels of institutions by keeping in mind its effectiveness and hindrances in Pakistan

    Development of A Work-based Vestibule Training E-module For Accident Prevention at Malaysian Oil and Gas Drilling Industries: A Proposed Framework

    This article discusses the conceptual action plan and detailed methodology for the identification of potential hazard controls and the development of work integrated E-vestibule training module for safe onshore and offshore oil and gas drilling operation at Malaysian industries. According to the previous studies, there is a sheer industrial need of an effective work integrated vestibule training module for accident prevention at oil and gas drilling sites at Malaysian drilling domains. In this proposed study, 80 drilling crew will be randomly selected for quantitative research phase. Similarly, 03 safety experts will be purposively selected for qualitative research from each drilling domain. Whereas, for the identification of hazard controlling measures What-If analysis and thematic analysis approaches will be adopted. Furthermore, the open source vestibule training module will be developed by using ADDIE based on identified hazard controlling measures. However, the visual studio and MySQL software will use to develop the E-Module for drilling crew safety training. The proposed E-vestibule training module development framework will be used as an effective source for the elimination of life-threatening drilling hazards associated with its activities at oil and gas industries. Similarly, the proposed framework can also be implemented on other work-based learning training designs. Moreover, this proposed safety and health vestibule training module will be the first E- drilling safety module which covers all onshore and offshore drilling operation in Malaysian oil and gas extraction settings

    Risk Factors for Construction Workforce Safety towards Sustainability

    This research article is based on the identification of safety risk factors associated with construction projects in Pakistan related with the China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC). In this paper, four construction sites have been targeted from Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Baluchistan province of Pakistan. The research was based on quantitative mode where the questionnaire survey was adopted for data collection and analysed statistically. The targeted respondents were 400 CPEC construction workforces from four different targeted sites in Pakistan. The collected data was analysed using descriptive statistical methods of Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) 23.0 software. According to the findings, it has been specified that the respondents from all four targeted construction sites in Pakistan has considered three major safety risk factors such as administrative, personal protective equipment (PPE) and workforce safety. Risk factors for administrative is between 1.06 and 2.65 (low level to moderate level), for PPE is between 1.06 and 2.65 (low level to moderate level) and for workforce safety is between 2.4 and 3.60 (moderate level to high Level). Meanwhile, the safety experts have been indicated the lack of proper training & PPE equipment’s, falling from height and falling object hazards are as the major cause of injuries at Pakistani construction sites related with CPEC projects. The findings of this study will be the catalyst for the CPEC projects in Pakistan to minimize the safety and health concern among construction industry workforce

    A Pilot study on a Cross Sectional Investigation of Science and Engineering Undergraduates: Motivation towards Learning English in Pakistan

    This research paper aims at to describe the results of pilot study on “A cross sectional investigation of Science and Engineering undergraduates’ motivation towards learning English in Pakistanâ€. The results of this research probably are useful and beneficial in the sense to test the instrument proposed for current study in particular and to provide recommendations for full study in general. Moreover Mix method design both qualitative and quantitative has been proposed for full study. But in piloting study the researchers only administered survey questionnaire in order to test the instrument. The researchers consulted the various studies on learners’ motivational studies and used a modified questionnaire based on the Attitude Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) by Robert Gardner and the three stage model of Dorneyi. For the sampling researchers’ selected convenience random sampling taking the names form hat policy was adopted. Questionnaire was divided in three parts, Part one of the questionnaire contained informants’ demographic information. Second part of questionnaire contained ninety six closed ended items, and third part of the questionnaire contain three open ended questions. The population of this pilot study was Science and engineering students from Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering and Technology. For reliability and validity check, all the data was interred in SPSS version 20 and cronbach’s Alpha reliability of questionnaire remained 0.920. This study intended to achieve the following aims and objectives (1) identify the motivational level of Science and Engineering undergraduates’ towards learning English language (2) Establish the factors that effects undergraduates’ motivation towards second language (L2) (3) Compare the motivational level between Science and Engineering undergraduates’ towards learning English language. In later section of paper, a complete visual illustration of demographic information of initial findings based on gender, mother tongue, origin, departments and institutional status is graphically presented.     Virtual reality as pedagogical tool to enhance experiential learning: A systematic literature review

    Since half of the century, technology has dominated the modern era. The rapid advancement of technology has reached generating artificial intelligence and artificial realities. So, virtual reality is an emerging technology and is applicable in education as well. Virtual reality is a computer-generated simulation, where people can interact within an artificial environment. Moreover, in an educational setting, such an environment provides students with a chance to get experiential learning. This paper has a systematic literature review on emerging technologies, such as virtual reality as a pedagogical tool for enhancing students’ experiential learning. This review aims to explore and understand the effect of virtual reality on students’ experiential learning by reviewing twenty-six selected articles. The selected studies have followed various methodologies and are from different contexts. This review study aims to present a systematic literature review for understanding and exploring the effect of virtual reality as a pedagogical tool for enhancing students’ experiential learning. Nine themes were identified, which are (a) virtual reality as pedagogical tool, (b) virtual reality as emerging educational technology tool, (c) virtual reality as digital transformation, (d) virtual reality as teaching learning model, (e) virtual reality as architectural pedagogy, (f ) virtual reality for communication skills, (g) virtual reality for reading and writing skills, (h) virtual reality for social learning, and (i) virtual reality for experiential learning. Thus, it is found that virtual reality is used as a pedagogical tool for various subject areas for encouraging involvement. It is helpful in medical, engineering, language, and social learning, as it provides a chance to get first-hand experience of the environment. Also, it helps learners to engage in a presented virtual environment and experience the sense of presence in it and enhances students’ experiential learning.     Role of personality traits for entrepreneurial intentions of young entrepreneurs: A case study of higher education institution

    Pakistan being a young country is struggling to provide employment opportunities. However, entrepreneurship is a perceived strategy for reducing unemployment. The trend of entrepreneurship is also emerging among university students. Thus, the ratio of entrepreneurial intention and start-ups is also increasing among university students and graduates. Therefore, this study aims to examine the role of personality traits in the entrepreneurial intentions of young entrepreneurs. Considering this, qualitative methodology was employed with the case study as the research design. A single case of a university with three different departments was taken. In total, n = 9 entrepreneurs were purposely selected from business (n = 3), computer science (n = 3), and education (n = 3) departments. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis of their ventures and success stories. This study followed research ethics, including volunteer participation, confidentiality, and reciprocity. The collected data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The findings reveal three main themes: the desire to be an entrepreneur, learning attitude, and personality traits are the leading factors in the entrepreneurial intentions of students and graduates. However, within these themes, the effect of personality traits (consistency and determination, discipline and locus of control, and risk-taking and tolerance) is found to lead to entrepreneurial intentions among young entrepreneurs. This study concludes that most entrepreneurs believe that the role of personality traits is evident in entrepreneurial intentions. Moreover, the personality traits are further strengthened with entrepreneurial experience and help continue entrepreneurship

    Theoretical Framework Development for Supply Chain Risk Management for Malaysian Manufacturing

    Globalization, rapid technological changes and growing competition not only facilitate but also make the supply chain more complex and fragile. Any disruption can disturb many organizations and even whole system. There are many theories and frameworks that present solution but no study is available that theoretically development framework for supply chain risk management. Due to the lack of structured supply chain risk management system the focus of this study is to develop a novel framework for identifying the potential risks and assessment of their effects on supply chain performance. Additionally, evaluate the role of supply chain collaboration in risk mitigation and performance improvement in Malaysian manufacturing sector. This study has highlighted numerous problems of Malaysian organizations and developed a theoretical framework. This framework will guide Malaysian organizations and will present better understanding for managers in resolving these issues. This is a conceptual paper, systematic as well as content analysis have been done for literature review. For future study, there is need to empirically verification of this theoretical framework. The proposed methodology to achieve this framework is; questionnaire will be developed from a pool and will be validate by exploratory view for risk identification. This questionnaire will be distributed among Malaysian manufacturing and data will be analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) for risk assessment and mitigation.     Mix method approach of measuring VR as a pedagogical tool to enhance experimental learning: Motivation from literature survey of previous study

    This research has been experimented on our previous literature review. Technological advancement has prevailed in the modern era from the 20th century. Artificial intelligence and virtual worlds have been created for rapid technological development. This paper is aimed at exploring the effect of virtual reality as a pedagogical tool for enhancing experiential learning among undergraduate students. Considering this, it was a mixed-methods study following the design of sequential exploratory–which includes qualitative followed by quantitative part. The targeted population was undergraduate students taking education programs from Public Sector Universities of Sindh. For the qualitative part, the sample of eight undergraduate students was interviewed for exploring their perceptions about virtual reality for enhancing experiential learning. The interviewed data were thematically analyzed, which revealed seven themes. For the quantitative part, emerged seven themes were used as constructs for developing the questionnaire. It was then used for quantitative data collection having excellent reliability. A sample of 80 students was taken, and data were collected by self-administration. The quantitative data were analyzed by descriptive as well as inferential statistics. Hence, the results found a statistically significant effect of virtual reality for enhancing experiential learning. However, user-friendliness ensures the applicability of virtual reality. Thus, it concluded that the implementation of virtual reality influences experiential learning enhancement. However, the implementation of virtual reality still depends upon the user-friendly nature of technology and virtual reality
