Relative Effectiveness of Signals in IPOs in Indian Capital Markets

    Get PDF
IPO by a firm calls for assessment of potential agency problems and associated costs by the outside investors. The potential conflict of interest problems between insiders and outsiders could be very high in countries with weak corporate governance mechanisms like India. Theoretically it could be argued that there are quite a few signals related to the firms in the IPO context and available to the investors, which could be used by them to assess the quality of firms. Based on cross-sectional data of 1243 IPOs in Indian markets during 1993-95 period, we find that the under-pricing (or realized excess returns), inside equity and pre-public offer firm reservations made for institutions and mutual funds explain the extent of oversubscription across IPOs. The type of agency appraising the project and presence or absence of foreign financial and/or technical collaborators fail to explain the extent of oversubscription across IPOs. In addition, we find that subscription rate rather than realized initial returns as dependent variable sheds more light on the effect of signals in a fixed-price open offer IPO process characterized by listing with considerable lag.

    DD-dimensional Bardeen-AdS black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory

We present a DD-dimensional Bardeen like Anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole solution in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity, \textit{viz}., Bardeen-EGB-AdS black holes. The Bardeen-EGB-AdS black hole has an additional parameter due to charge (ee), apart from mass (MM) and Gauss-Bonnet parameter (α\alpha). Interestingly, for each value of α\alpha, there exist a critical e=eEe = e_E which corresponds to an extremal regular black hole with degenerate horizons, while for e<eEe< e_E, it describes non-extremal black hole with two horizons. Despite the complicated solution, the thermodynamical quantities, like temperature (TT), specific heat(CC) and entropy (SS) associated with the black hole are obtained exactly. It turns out that the heat capacity diverges at critical horizon radius r+=rCr_+ = r_C, where the temperature attains maximum value and the Hawking-Page transition is achievable. Thus, we have an exact DD-dimensional regular black holes, when evaporates lead to a thermodynamical stable remnant.Comment: 25 pages, 48 figure

Bardeen black holes in the novel 4D4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this paper, following the idea of Glavan and Lin [Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 081301 (2020)] of re-scaling the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling constant to α/(D−4)\alpha/(D-4), we obtain the Bardeen black hole solution of 4D4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We analyze the horizon structure to determine the effect of GB parameter α\alpha on the minimum and maximum cutoff values of mass, M0M_0, and magnetic monopole charge, g0g_0, for the existence of a black hole horizon. The analytical expressions for thermodynamical quantities, namely Hawking temperature T+T_+, entropy S+S_+, Gibbs free energy F+F_+ and specific heat C+C_+ associated with the black hole horizon are determined. In the analysis of heat capacity, we find that there exists a critical value of horizon radius, r+cr_+^{c}, corresponding to the local maximum of Hawking temperature, at which heat capacity diverges, confirming the second-order phase transition.Comment: 15 pages and 4 figure

Background: This is an observational study that was carried out to find the mean Insall Salvati ratio and modified Insall Salvati ratio in people coming to outpatient department requiring radiograph of knee joint..Methods: Radiological assessment of 200 knees which included 100 men and 100 women above the age group of 18,in a period of 6 months for which Insall Salvati and modified Insall Salvati ratio were calculated. Results: The mean Insall Salvati ratio was calculated to be 0.805 and the mean modified Insall Salvati ratio was 0.605 in South Indian. Conclusions: Based on the above study i conclude that majority of South Indian population had patella baja with female predominance

Hayward black holes in the novel 4D4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We present an exact Hayward-like black hole solution in the 4D4D novel Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity and also analyse their thermodynamic properties to calculate exact expressions for the black hole mass, temperature, and entropy. Owing to the magnetic charge gg term in the metric, the thermodynamical quantities are corrected, and it is demonstrated that the Hawking-Page phase transition is achievable by showing diverges of the heat capacity at a critical radius r=rCr=r_C where incidentally the temperature is maximum. Thus, we have a black hole with Cauchy and event horizons, and it's evaporation leads to a thermodynamically stable extremal black hole remnant with vanishing temperature. The entropy does not satisfy the usual exact horizon Bekenstein-Hawking area law of general relativity with logarithmic area correction term
