Scenario’s voor woonlocatiebeleid in Vlaanderen: criteria en doorrekening

Current population growth rates in Flanders and Brussels are expected to lead to an increasing demand in the housing market. In quantitative terms, the currently available stock of construction land can easily meet such a demand. However, still undeveloped parcels are often remote, far removed from the labour market and other facilities, in locations where new housing is expected to further deteriorate the landscape while perhaps also posing a threat to the water system. The study on which this article reports proposes a number of criteria for regional residential planning, after which a number of development scenarios are built. Of the two most promising scenarios (called "guiding models" in the study), the first one is aimed at transit oriented development, while the second one attempts to minimize the overall traffic production through strengthening spatial proximity features. Ultimately, both models are combined into one scenario, which serves as input for the selection of areas of compaction in the forthcoming Spatial Policy Plan for Flanders.De huidige bevolkingsgroei in Vlaanderen en Brussel zal naar verwachting leiden tot een toenemende vraag op de woningmarkt. In kwantitatieve termen kan de huidige beschikbare voorraad bouwgrond moeiteloos aan deze toenemende vraag voldoen. Daar staat tegenover dat de nog onbebouwde percelen vaak afgelegen zijn, ver verwijderd van de arbeidsmarkt en voorzieningen, op locaties waar woningbouw het landschap wellicht verder zou aantasten en een potentiële bedreiging vormt voor de waterhuishouding. De studie waarover dit artikel rapporteert stelt een aantal criteria op voor regionale woonlocatieplanning en bouwt daar een reeks scenario’s rond. De twee meestbelovende van deze scenario’s (hierna “sturingsmodellen” genoemd) richten zich enerzijds op op het openbaar vervoer geënte knooppuntontwikkeling, en anderzijds op het minimaliseren van de verkeersproductie door in te zetten op het versterken van de ruimtelijke nabijheid. Uiteindelijk worden beide modellen gecombineerd tot één scenario, dat als input dient voor het selecteren van verdichtingsruimtes in het in opmaak zijnde Beleidsplan Ruimte Vlaanderen

Hub programme Groningen and Drenthe:state of hubs, governance, and future outlook

In this report, the governance of hubs in Groningen and Drenthe is studied, specifically focused on how the hub programme was initiated and how it is operated. Additionally, case studies of governance of hub programmes internationally (Bremen, Flanders and Southeast Scotland) are carried out. The lessons learned from the Groningen – Drenthe practice and the international cases provide policy considerations for further developments of the hub programme in Groningen and Drenthe

Het is aan te bevelen dat ten aanzien van de productie, het verbruik en de in- en uitvoer van de verschillende soorten zand, maar ook met betrekking tot de investeringen in de bouwnijverheid betere en nauwkeurige gegevens worden verzameld.Door middel van een gedegen monitoringsysteem kunnen de wintaken zo worden ingericht dat het mogelijk is sneller in te spelen op de actuele behoefte aan beton- en metselzand in de maatschappij. Hierdoor kan adequaat worden gereageerd op nieuwe marktontwikkelingen en kan de voorziening van deze essentiële grondstoffen voor de bouwnijverheid worden gegarandeerd.<br/

Smartphone-based vase design: a developing creative practice

peer-reviewedThis article describes a developing creative practice whereby digital creative processes adapted from mobile music making are used in the data driven design and subsequent digital instantiation of ceramic vessels. First, related work in mobile music creation and recent developments in the digital design and fabrication of ceramics frames the research and puts it in a broad context. A pilot study is then detailed, concluding that although largely successful, a number of areas of the process needed to be improved and refined. The results of a further iteration of the process, consisting of the digital creation and instantiation of location-specific vessels is presented, before the current state of the research, where ceramic vessels are 3D printed, is outlined. We show that mobile phones can become integral to a practical design process that allows the digital forms it creates to be instantiated using 3D printing, and that these become high-quality, end-use artefacts. The final section discusses what has been learned and contemplates how the described practice will be developed yet further
