Tor soro is an Indonesian freshwater fish that is threatened with extinction. Preventing the extinction of the Tor soro fish is by carrying out cultivation activities. This research aims to determine the impact of providing different varieties of natural feed on the growth rate of Tor soro. Completely Randomised Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments (A; Artemia salina 21 days, B; Artemia salina 7 days and Tubifex sp. 14 days, C; Daphnia sp. 21 days, D; Daphnia sp. 7 days and Tubifex sp.14 days) was the method used in this research. Fish maintenance is for 21 days with a feeding frequency of twice (morning and evening). The results of the ANOVA test showed that giving different natural feeds impacts absolute length growth and specific growth rate, but does not significantly differ the survival rate of Tor soro fish larvae. The highest absolute length growth was 1.07 ± 0.01 cm and 0,036±0,025 g of the absolute weight growth. the difference in days of feeding impacts fish growth because the protein contained in Tor soro fish feed varies (Treatment B). The conclusion obtained from this research was that the highest value was found in treatment B

The purpose of this study was to identify the tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) histopatology status in traditional cultured ponds at Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province. The sampling was carried out by purposively random method from seven ponds and two shrimps were sampled from each pond. Several water quality parameters were checked like temperature, pH, salinity and ammonia. Result showed that black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) which were cultivated in traditional ponds in the Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province were histopathologically changes. It was suspected the hepatopancreas changes were associated with viral infection like Hepatopancreatica Parvovirus (HPV) and White Feces Disease (WFD). Ammonia concentrations were found higher in some ponds like Alu Buya Village, Jangka Keutapang Village, Jangka Mesjid Village, Alu Kuta Village and Punjot Village. The management of regular feeding and water quality control is highly recommended to anticipate the viral potential attack in traditional shrimp pond farming at Jangka District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province. Keywords:Tiger shrimps Histopathology Water qualit

    Get PDF
Streptococcosis disease caused by the pathogen S. agalactiae is a serious problem in freshwater fish farming. This research aims to use multiherbal ingredients to stimulate the improvement of the fish's immune system in fighting infection by the pathogenic bacteria S. agalactiae. The research was carried out at the FKIP Chemistry Laboratory, the Fish Hatchery and Breeding Laboratory of the FKP, and the Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University. The test fish used were tilapia measuring 7-8 cm length. The research method was carried out experimentally using a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 5 treatments and 3 replications, namely treatment A (negative control), B (positive control), C (addition of C. gigantea), D (addition of M. oleivera), E (addition of C. alata L). The test result data is analyzed using Analysis of Variance. The results of research on immersion in multiherbal extracts in fish infected with S. agalactiae showed an increase in the immune response as seen in blood parameters (leukocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit) and a higher survival rate compared to those without immersion in the extract. The highest survival rate was obtained in the treatment of 10 ppm of C. alata L leaves extract at 83.33%

Cellulase activity of bacteria isolated from water of mangrove ecosystem in Aceh Province

    Get PDF
Cellulolytic bacteria that produce cellulase enzymes play an essential role in degrading cellulose in their habitat. The presence of cellulolytic bacteria strongly supports the fertility and productivity in mangrove waters. The objectives of the study are to analyze the activity of cellulase enzyme qualitatively through the cellulolytic index and quantitatively through the activity and specific activity of the cellulase enzyme from bacteria isolated from the water of mangrove ecosystems in Aceh Province. The qualitative experiment of enzyme activity was carried out at the Microbiology laboratory SKIPM Aceh, and a quantitative experiment of enzyme activity was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory, Biology Department, IPB. Isolation of cellulolytic bacteria isolated from mangrove water used Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (1% CMC) selective media and carried out by spread plate method. The ability of bacteria to produce cellulase was tested qualitatively using the spot technique, this test was carried out using 1% Congo Red. Furthermore, the quantitative testing of cellulase enzymes activity adopted the DNS spectrophotometric method. The specific activity of the cellulase enzyme can be determined by using the Lowry method. There were 21 isolates that had a clear zone and had the ability to produce cellulase enzymes from 49 isolates that were successfully purified. The highest cellulolytic index (CI) produced using BAM421 isolate with the value of 5.50 was included in the high category, followed by BAM326 and BAM132 isolates, with values of 1.55 and 1.05 were categorized into the medium category. The other isolates were in the low cellulolytic index category. The isolate with the highest CI value was further tested using the quantitative enzyme activity test. The highest cellulase enzyme activity of BAM421 occurred at 24hr (0.0029 U/ml). The highest specific cellulase activity of BAM421 was at 24hr with the value of 0.210 U/mg. The result concluded that the qualitative test showed CI values can be categorized into low, medium, and high. Moreover, the value of the quantitative assay described that the cellulase enzyme and the specific enzyme activities of the bacteria were low in the study area. Keywords:Cellulolytic indexQuantitative testMangrove watersCellulase enzymeMicroorganismTRANSLATE with x EnglishArabicHebrewPolishBulgarianHindiPortugueseCatalanHmong DawRomanianChinese SimplifiedHungarianRussianChinese TraditionalIndonesianSlovakCzechItalianSlovenianDanishJapaneseSpanishDutchKlingonSwedishEnglishKoreanThaiEstonianLatvianTurkishFinnishLithuanianUkrainianFrenchMalayUrduGermanMalteseVietnameseGreekNorwegianWelshHaitian CreolePersian //  TRANSLATE with COPY THE URL BELOW Back EMBED THE SNIPPET BELOW IN YOUR SITE Enable collaborative features and customize widget: Bing Webmaster PortalBack/

Recent update: collagen extraction from marine resources as a promising natural antiaging

    Get PDF
Aging is a natural process that occurs in every human. Aging can be prevented or slowed down through the appropriate and suitable use of collagen as an anti-aging treatment. Collagen is typically derived from raw materials such as pig or cow bones/skin, but recently there have been frequent outbreaks of infectious diseases among livestock, prompting the exploration of raw materials sourced from the sea to address this issue and create promising collagen for anti-aging purposes. The objective of this literature review research is to explore the potential of collagen extracts from marine resources as an anti-aging solution through an examination of relevant literature, which can serve as a reference for future research. A systematic review method was employed by collecting data from various literature sources, including research journals published both nationally and internationally, which discuss various marine resources containing collagen with anti-aging properties. Based on the systematic review, several natural resources containing collagen with anti-aging properties were identified, including sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea sp.), milkfish (Chanos chanos), tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), jellyfish (Rhopilema esculentum), starfish (Asterias pectinifera), mackerel (Decapterus macarellus), squid (Todarodes pacificus), silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), and blue sharks (Prionace glauca)
