An experimental study on the effects of some clinically important drugs on non-pregnant human myometrium activity

The effects of isoxsuprine, hyoscine N - butylbromide, valethamate bromide, ethanol and pethidine on non-pregnant human uterine strips were investigated in vitro. Myometrial strips were kept in physiologic solution of 38°C for 2 - 3 hours. Following this period of equilibrium, muscle strips generally showed a regular rhythmic activity. The effects of the above mentioned drugs on this activity were evaluated. Only high concentration of isoxsuprine depressed the mean amplitude of the spontaneous activity in a significant manner (p<0.001) compared to the control values. Student's t test was used in this study. No significant effects were observed with hyoscine N - butylbromide, valethamate bromide and ethanol. The action of pethidine could be evaluated only in a qualitative way. While pethidine at a concentration of 50 µg/ml. generally increased the spontaneous activity and tone of strips, 100 µg/ml. concentration of the same drug completely inhibited these parameters

Treatment of serious iso-immunisations to Rhesus factor by plasmaphresis. Report of two cases [LE TRAITEMENT DES ISO-IMMUNISATIONS GRAVES AU FACTEUR RHESUS PAR PLASMAPHERESE. A PROPOS DE DEUX CAS]

PubMedID: 2516359Plasmapheresis was performed in order to clean the excess of antibodies in two patients in whom previous fetal loss had occurred, due to rhesus disease. A reduction in antibodies titles was obtained in both cases. Both patients were delivered by ceasarian section after normal full term pregnancies. The babies were followed for two years and revealed no fetal abnormalities

PubMedID: 1570458This study consists of six accurately diagnosed and treated cases of abdominal pregnancy over a 16-year period (1974-1989) in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Cukurova University Medical Faculty in Adana. In this study the incidence of abdominal pregnancy we found was 1 per 4017 births. In two cases whose pregnancies continued until term, living babies were delivered. The separation of placenta was easy in four cases. However in the other two cases, the management of placenta detachment was difficult because of the stick adhesions with visseria; so in these cases the placenta tissues were left in the abdomen. The methotrexate was administered to erode to the placenta in these cases. One of them who received methotrexate died of infection
