The objective of the present work was to determine the inheritance and stability of transgenes of a transgenic bean line expressing the genes rep-trap-ren from Bean golden mosaic virus and the bar gene. Crosses were done between the transgenic line and four commercial bean cultivars, followed by four backcrosses to the commercial cultivars. Progenies from each cross were evaluated for the presence of the transgenes by brushing the leaves with glufosinate ammonium and by polymerase chain reaction using specific oligonucleotides. Advanced generations were rub-inoculated with an isolate of Bean common mosaic necrosis virus (BCMNV). The transgenes were inherited consistently in a Mendelian pattern in the four crosses studied. The analyzed lines recovered close to 80% of the characteristics of the recurrent parent, as determined by the random amplified DNA markers used, besides maintaining important traits such as resistance to BCMNV. The presence of the transgene did not cause any detectable undesirable effect in the evaluated progenies

The objective of this work was to evaluate ricin concentration in castor bean seeds (Ricinus communis) of 20 accessions from the Banco de Germoplasma de Mamoneira of the Embrapa Algodão, Campina Grande, PB, Brazil, using the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay. Significant differences were observed among accessions. BRA 3271 had the highest ricin concentration in seeds (32.18 ng mg-1), and BRS Paraguaçu had the lowest (3.53 ng mg-1). There is the possibility of selecting genotypes with different ricin concentrations, which can be used according on the interest of the breeding programs

Vitamin D3 Supplementation: An Option Associated with The Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis: : A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic complex neurodegenerative disease. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted on observational studies and analytics on impact of Vitamin D supplementation in patients with Multiple Sclerosis. In our research, a total of 457 articles were selected and identified for analysis. This systematic review article and meta-analysis, which included evidence from randomized controlled trials conducted with patients with multiple sclerosis, revealed that Vitamin D3 supplementation is effective as an option associated with the treatment of this disease, and that it also has a diffuse protective role against various remission outbreaks in the health. Doses (50,000 IU/week) are appropriate to restore neuroimmunological parameters when used within 12 weeks

Goals: To verify whether the use of Vitamin D as parallel therapy to hospital and drug treatment can be effective in the process of infectious reduction in hospitalized children. Data source: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, published between 2011 and the first quarter of 2019, in the Cochrane Library, Medline, US National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of Health (PubMed), Literature databases. Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences (Lilacs), Scopus and Web of Science. The studies were scored by the Down and Black scale associated with the quality assessment method according to the Cochrane criteria (RCT). Summary of the data: Of the 1475 studies, 09 were included. There is a direct relationship between Vitamin D level and mortality rate in hospitalized children with infections. Conclusion: This study highlighted that the vitamin D deficiency in children under serum analysis during hospitalization triggers severe immunological changes

The objective of this work was to evaluate pollen dispersal from transgenic to non-transgenic soybean plants. Non-transgenic soybean plants were cultivated surrounding transgenic soybean plants carrying the ahas (for herbicide tolerance against imazapyr) and gus genes. Pollen dispersal was evaluated by the presence of both dominant genes in the progenies of non-transgenic plants. The highest amount of transgenic pollen dissemination was observed in the first row, 0.5m distant from the central plot (0.44% to 0.45%). The frequency of pollen dispersion has drastically decreased in the row 2 (0.04% to 0.14%), reaching zero by the row 13, which was 6.5 m distant from the central plot

Objective: to know the epidemiological clinical profile of children admitted for acute respiratory failure (ARF) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Teresina Emergency Hospital (TEH), from 2010 to 2015. Method: a quantitative approach, with a sample of 451 medical records obtained in the electronic system of hospitalization of the patients who were admitted to the Pediatric ICU of the Hospital. After approval by the Ethics Committee of Estácio Ceut Faculty, the study was started. Results: Of the 721 hospitalizations due to ARF in children, 451 (62.6%) required clinical interventions in the ICU. Of these, 59.4% were male, in the age range of one to six years (61.9%), with a diagnosis in the ICD 10 by J96.0. In 99.7% of the cases, hospitalized for a period of more than ten days (72.4%), originating in the interior of Piauí (63.4%), whose discharge occurred by administrative closure (75.6%), followed by deaths, which were 19,3%. Conclusion: Acute Respiratory Insufficiency is a serious problem of global, national and local public health, because it is a morbidity that requires advanced technology for health treatment, with relative mortality. It is reasonable for therapeutic measures to prevent respiratory diseases to be systematically stimulated and implemented by health services to prevent them.
